Safety Technology This sedan comes with a few safety technology features. The Tire Pressure Monitoring System can be a major benefit while out on the road. This system features a sensor inside the tire, which will detect when the tire drops in air pressure. When a drop in air pressure is detected, the system will notify the driver through a dashboard indicator. The Toyota Corolla also features the Integrated Backup Camera. This feature uses the Entune™ screen to display the point of view from the vehicle’s rear to add extra assistance while backing in and out of spaces. This system also includes a projected path, which will highlight the vehicle’s potential destination based on the angle of approach. Active Safety Features The Toyota Corolla comes with the Star Safety System™. This system is the bundle of active safety features that are included with the vehicle’s anti-lock braking system. The Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control and the Traction Control both work together to reduce a loss of traction during slippery road conditions. When the vehicle experiences wheel slip, these systems activate to provide enough brake pressure for the vehicle to regain traction and stability. Electronic Brake-force Distribution is also included with the Star Safety System™. This braking feature will automatically vary the amount of brake pressure that’s applied to the front and rear wheels to provide more control to the driver. Brake Assist will help the driver achieve full stopping power in an emergency braking situation. 6
Passive Safety Features The driver and front passenger of the Toyota Corolla get protection from the Advanced Airbag System. The front airbags will vary their inflation based on the severity of the impact to provide enough protection while reducing the possibility of whiplash or other airbag-related injuries. Front passengers also receive protection from the side-impact airbags. The driver also gets a knee airbag for additional collision protection. All passengers in the Toyota Corolla get side collision and head protection from the side curtain airbags. The exterior of the Toyota Corolla was also designed to provide collision protection. The front and rear crumple zones can help absorb the energy generated during a front or rear collision, and disperse it away from the passengers inside the cabin. The side-impact door beams are there to ensure that there’s no intrusion if the vehicle experiences a side collision. Toyota Safety Sense™ P One of key benefits of the 2018 Toyota Corolla is that it comes with driver assistance technology that is standard at the base level. These features use front-mounted sensors to provide more precision, safety, and security to routine trips and lengthy excursions. The Toyota Safety Sense™ P bundle includes a variety of features that will aid any driver on their journey. The Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection uses the front sensors to detect an object in the path of the Toyota Corolla. When the system detects a possible collision based on the distance of the object and the rate of approach from the Corolla, it’ll apply enough brake pressure to help provide enough time for the driver to intervene. The Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist uses the sensors to detect the lines in the road. If they sense that the vehicle is drifting from its path, the vehicle will add brake pressure while using the steering wheel to veer back into the correct lane. The Automatic High Beams activate when the sensors detect that there’s a lack of natural light. However, when there’s a vehicle approaching, the sensors will detect the vehicle and switch to normal headlights. Dynamic Radar Cruise Control is very helpful during lengthy trips along a highway. This lets the driver set a cruising speed and a distance from the vehicle ahead. The system will favor the distance over the speed and will actively adjust its speed, if the vehicle ahead begins to brake to adjust to the flow of traffic. This also helps reduce the risk of a collision. 7
