Updates from Consulate General of India, Toronto Roundtable on ‘Leveraging Ontario’s Global Networks to promote Asia-Pacific Exports’ Consul General Shri Dinesh Bhatia speaking at the Roundtable Consul General Shri Dinesh Bhatia with other dignitaries at the Roundtable Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada organised a Roundtable titled ‘Leveraging Ontario’s Global Networks to promote Asia- Pacific Exports’ on May 1, 2018 at the University Club of Toronto. The Roundtable had different sessions on topics like ‘Ontario’s International Connections in the Asia Pacific’ and Developing Institutional Frameworks: Role of Public and Private Sector Advisory Bodies. Consu General Shri Dinesh Bhatia spoke in the Session on ‘Leveraging International Networks’ along with Consul General of Australia, Mr. Grayson Perry. He spoke at length about the penetration of Indian diaspora globally and the country’s soft power. Other dignitaries at the Roundtable included Ms. Christine Nakamura, Executive Director, Asia Pacific Foundation, Mr. Kasi Rao, President, Canada-India Business Council, Mr. Sriram Iyer, President and CEO, ICICI Bank (Canada), Mr. Peter Wilkinson, Senior Vice President, Regulatory & Public Affairs, Manulife, Ms. Beatrix Dart, Director, Initiative for Women in Business, Rotman School of Management and Mr. Alim Alarakhia, Senior Enterprise Relationship Manager, Sales Solutions, LinkedIn. Lions Gala for Sight 2018 Consul General Shri Dinesh Bhatia speaking at the "Lions Gala for Sight 2018” Consul General Shri Dinesh Bhatia with Mr. Rob Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West Consul General Shri Dinesh Bhatia and Smt. Seema Bhatia attended the "Lions gala for sight 2018”, a fund raising event for indigenous eye health organised Toronto Netralya Lions Club on May 5, 2018. Consul General appreciated the Indian- Canadian community of Toronto Netralaya Lions Club, for contributing $100,000 towards, the First Nation community (indigenous people) of Canada. Other important dignitaries included Mr. Rob Oliphant, Member of Parliament for Don Valley West; Ms. Dipika Damrela, MPP Mississauga East-Cooksville, Ontario's Minister of Seniors Affairs; Ms. Amrit Mangat, MPP for Mississauga-Brampton South and Mr. Steven Del Duca, Minister of Economic Development and Growth, Ontario.
Updates from Consulate General of India, Toronto Gujarat Gaurav Awards - 2018 Mr. D.P. Singh, Consul (Press, Information & Community Welfare) participated in Gujarat Gaurav Awards - 2018, organized by Gujarat Public Affairs Council of Canada on May 5, 2018 at the Sringeri Vidya Bharti Foundation. He gave away awards to Mr. D P Singh, Consul (Press, Information & Community Welfare) giving awards at Mr. D P Singh, Consul (Press, Information & the Gujarat Gaurav Awards 2018 Community Welfare) at the Gujarat Gaurav Awards prominent Gujaratis. 2018 Bakery Showcase 2018 Vice Consul (Commerce), Shri N. S. Siwach attended the Bakery Showcase 2018 on April 30th. Bakery Showcase is Canada's national baking industry trade show & conference. The event is held every other year in Toronto (Mississauga), it is the largest and the ONLY baking industry B2B trade show & conference produced in Canada. The event has been designed to provide a forum and platform where baking and food industry including foodservice can meet on a common Vice Consul (Commerce), Shri N S Siwach with Ms. Susan Baka, Ontario Representative of TFO Canada Bakery Showcase 2018 ground and conduct business.
Updates from India National Committee for Commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi The President of India, Shri Ram Nath Kovind, chaired the first meeting of the National Committee for the Commemoration of the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 2, 2018. The Committee has a total of 125 members, including 116 from India and encompasses the President (as chair), the Vice-President, Prime Minister, Union Ministers, former Prime Ministers, Chief Ministers, senior MPs and political leaders from across party lines, and eminent Gandhians, social thinkers and activists representing a cross-section of Indian society and regional diversity. In his speech, President Kovind stressed that Mahatma Gandhi does not belong to India alone. He remains one of India’s greatest gifts to humankind and his name finds resonance across the continents. Mahatma Gandhi was the most influential Indian of the 20th century. Encapsulating the sense of the meeting, the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, thanked various members of the Committee for their constructive suggestions and recommendations. He said it is important that this occasion be celebrated in a manner that ensures Mahatma Gandhi continues to be an inspiration for future generations. Globally as well, this occasion should serve to increase awareness about Gandhiji, he said. Pravasi Bhartiya Divas 2019 Ministry of External affairs, India, organizes “The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas” (PBD), in order to have a meaningful dialogue and mutually beneficial engagement between India and its Diaspora. In reverence to the sentiments of the larger diaspora community to participate in Kumbh Snan and their desires to witness the Republic Day Parade, the 15th PBD Convention, 2019 will be held from January 21-23, 2019 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, in association with the State Government of Uttar Pradesh. The theme of the 15th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Convention, 2019 is “Role of Indian Diaspora in building a New India”. Members of Indian Diaspora interested to participate in the above PBD Convention, 2019 may visit the website and register their names on www.pbdindia.gov.in/how-register. The Centre for International Development at Harvard University (CID) said in new growth projections that countries that have diversified their economies into more complex sectors, such as India and Vietnam, are those that will grow the fastest in the coming decade.
