Bed & Bath A/W 20/21 Considered Comfort Systems for living Soft materials, matte finishes and warm colours emphasise a sense of comfort in the most intimate spaces in the home Ex T
Considered Comfort Systems for living Considered Comfort explores how design and interiors will respond to our changing relationship with home, as it becomes a multifunctional system for living. Already, fluid working patterns are changing how we use our homes, and tech is enabling us to bring out-of-home activities inside. Hi-tech exercise systems, for example, connect to virtual trainers to simulate the experience of a fitness class from the living room. And when we are not home, we can control it remotely through devices and appliances synced to our phones. For bed and bath, this will alter what we want from our products and spaces, and what we expect from them. Expect a push towards soft, natural and tactile materials, and items that support seamless transitions between work, rest and play. In 2021, our homes will be multi-tasking, and our products will be following suit. H&M
Action Points Enhancing wellness is a key focus for spaces in this trend, which sees bathrooms become spa-like retreats, and bedrooms become cosy sanctuaries 1. Bring nature inside: Natural patterns and materials create a sense of connection with the outdoors, and plants are used to improve air quality and add a lush element to rooms. 2. Look to Japanese design: Concepts of simplicity and finding beauty in the imperfect – both embraced in Japanese design – inspire pared-down designs focused on quality materials and refined aesthetics. 3. Embrace natural materials: Use tactile raw materials for their imperfect beauty, organic origins, and their ability to bring warmth to neutral interiors. 4. Use earthy colours and matte finishes: Use warm colours to create cosy spaces where consumers will feel comfortable letting down their guard, and use matte pigments to create soft-touch surfaces on hard goods. 5. Focus on calm and comfort: This human-centric trend is all about enhancing wellbeing, reducing visual and mental clutter, and returning to the simplicity of nature. Urban Outfitters
