We ask that attendees follow these guidelines: • No realistic weapons. Prop weapons should be made of plastic or foam. No real weapons are allowed at FanCon (e.g. swords). Tips for the Day Whether this is your first or 100th convention, here are some tips to help you navigate FanCon. 1. Plan ahead. Take a look at the schedule and plan out your day in advance. There’s so much to do! Please register for all sessions you wish to attend. After you register, go to My FanCon 2020 to view your full schedule as well as instructions regarding how to join the session. 2. Having problems? The Virtual Command Center can help. Feel free to chat us with any questions you may have about FanCon. Join our Virtual Command Center to speak directly with FanCon staff. Check the FanCon page at ahml.info/fancon for the link to the Command Center chat room. 3. Be prepared to chat. Be prepared to chat. Don’t be shy! All Day Activities ALL DAY Website Scavenger Hunt Friday, July 10, 3 p.m.–Sunday, July 12, 8 p.m. Come on gang! Let’s split up and search for clues! Put your Mystery Incorporated super sleuthing skills to the test and search for clues across the AHML website. Fill in answers found on different pages on the AHML site and collect your prize, you meddling kids! All ages. Animal Crossing Trade Friday, July 10, 3 p.m.–8 p.m. Have you been obsessively shaking trees to find furniture, hitting rocks for money and shooting down balloons for presents? Same. Come to our island to swap out items. Leave items or DIYs you already have or don’t want and take what you need. The Dodo Code will be shared on Friday, July 10. For ages 8 and up. Equipment Needed: Nintendo Switch console, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to be able to play. Mario Kart 8 Tournament Friday, July 10, 3 p.m.–Saturday, July 11, 8 p.m. Now is the time to prove that you’re the best at Mario Kart. All day Friday and Saturday log into our tournament and show off your stuff. Winner gets bragging rights for the year and a sweet prize! For ages 8 and up. Equipment Needed: Nintendo Switch console, Mario Kart 8 and a Nintendo Switch Online subscription to be able to play in the tournament. Oregon Trail Competition Friday, July 10, 3 p.m.–Saturday, July 11, noon Can you make it across the plains and through the mountains to the Willamette Valley? You’ll need to decide whether you should ford the river, how many oxen to buy, and hope you don’t catch cholera. Play the retro computer game The Oregon Trail and share a screenshot of your top score by noon on Saturday, July 11. FanCon’s top scorers will earn a spot in the ultimate wagon party for the Oregon Trail Speed Run on Sunday evening. For ages 8 and up. 3
Crafts ALL DAY Get out your glue and let’s do this! We have assembled crafts that will release every day, so make sure you check out our Crafts page for updates. Limited supplies will be available at the library for pick-up. If you are unable to make it to the library, a list of supplies will be posted along with the instructions. Check the Crafts page each day to download the craft instructions. Friday, 3 p.m. DIY Lightsaber Ages 5+ Need a lightsaber for the Jedi Trainings this weekend? Take a look at this DIY Lightsaber you can make at home, using things you might already have. Still need supplies? Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Sew a Bowtie Tweens, Teens and Adults Lookin’ snazzy in your new comic bow. Whether you’re making a neck bowtie or a hair bowtie, you’re sure to impress with your sewing skills and creativity. Show off your love for comic books in a fashionable way. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Superhero Cuffs Ages 5+ You are the superhero we’ve been waiting for! Before you can stop the bad guys, you need the right gear. Suit up and get ready for FanCon with these superhero cuffs. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Trolls Headbands Ages 5+ Make sure you’re FanCon and World Tour ready by creating a Trolls headband. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. 4
Saturday, 11 a.m. ALL DAY Flying Superhero Ages 3+ It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s... a flying superhero! Decorate and watch your superhero soar through the air fighting crime and injustice. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Pet Bandana Ages 6+ Does your pet need a little pizzazz? Get creative! Decorate a pre-measured and cut bandana with your favorite fandom so you and your pet can look your best all weekend! Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Scooby Snacks Ages 6+ Ruh-roh, Raggy! Are all these fun FanCon activities making you hungry? Try making these pet and human friendly Scooby Snacks to keep your energy up! They are super easy and only five ingredients. Would you do it for a Scooby Snack? Tardis Card Tweens, Teens and Adults Are you a Whovian and want your very own Tardis? You can now make your very own Tardis at home with a Tardis Card. Just like the actual Tardis, this card is larger than it appears. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Sunday, noon Baby Yoda Cubee Ages 8+ The force is strong with this Cubee craft. Baby Yoda is sure to bring a smile to someone’s face or to your own with this simple design. Simply cut out the design, use a hobby knife to make slits on the white lines, fold on solid black lines, and insert the tabs into place. Preprinted pages can be picked up at the library or you can download the design here. Edible Potions Ages 6+ Could you pass potions class at Hogwarts? Try out these at-home edible potions. But be careful, you never know what will happen if you make the wrong potion. Olaf Ages 6+ “Hi, everyone. I’m Olaf and I like warm hugs!” Make your very own snowman friend who won’t melt this summer. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. Shrinky Dinks Tweens, Teens and Adults Make your fandom known with a pin! Decorate, cut, shrink, glue and wear. It’s that easy to show off your fandom for the whole world to see. Craft kits will be available for pick-up in the library while supplies lasts. 5
VIRTUAL SESSIONS SESSIONS Limited Sessions: These sessions have a limited capacity. Please register as soon as possible to secure your place in these sessions. Streamed Sessions: These sessions will be streamed on YouTube Live and do not have a capacity. Please register for all sessions you wish to attend. Click on the session titles to be taken to the registration page. After you register, go to My FanCon 2020to view your full schedule as well as instructions regarding how to join the session. If you have any issues getting into a session, head over to the Command Center. There will be a FanCon staff member available to help with any issues. Visit ahml.info/fancon to access the Command Center. FRIDAY 3 p.m. Minecraft Mania LIMITED SESSION Ages 6+ Using Minecraft’s creative mode, you will be challenged to build and decorate an object related to a theme. If you have never tried it before, Scotty Vrablik, our resident Minecraft Mania Master, will demonstrate how to move and build. Using your own account is encouraged. If you do not have one, one will be provided. 4:15 p.m. Draw-with-Me: Figure Drawing Workshop LIMITED SESSION Teens and Adults Want to learn the basics to begin drawing some of your favorite fandom characters? Join May Napora, a former AHML Teen Film Fest winner, in learning the essential tips, tricks and basics to character design and digital illustration. 7 p.m. Cosplay 101 STREAMED SESSION Teens and Adults Tim Harrison, founder of HDC Fabrication, is an award-winning, master-level costumer and fabricator. Stop by this Cosplay 101 session to get inside his workshop, watch a demo and ask any questions you have about creating cosplay. Whether you’re new to cosplay or have been doing it for years, Harrison will share his expertise to help you look screen (or page) accurate. 6
SATURDAY SESSIONS 11 a.m. Princess Tea Party-Session 1 LIMITED SESSION Ages 3-10 Join Belle, Tinkerbell and Cinderella for a fabulous tea party. You are encouraged to dress for tea or come dressed in your favorite princess or superhero costume. We will provide the entertainment while you enjoy your “tea” in your own home via Zoom. Our hostesses will share stories and other tea-related activities. For the last part of the tea party, you may chat in breakout groups with either Belle, Tinkerbell or Cinderella! The time to put that knowledge to use is now. With questions ranging from Mario to the new PS5, are you ready to claim victory? Register as a single player or register as a team. One registration per team. We will be using the service Crowdpurr for this session. The Crowdpurr code will be available to registered participants. 3:15 p.m. Superfight LIMITED SESSION Teens and Adults CHOOSE YOUR FIGHTER! Can a psychic, 100-foot-tall mechanical T-Rex beat the Mr. Rogers clone who can stop time? Join fellow gamers for some old-fashioned imaginary street-fighting. Who will win the fight? Register to enter the bracket of fighters, or join the audience on YouTube Live to watch some ridiculous arguments and vote for a winner. 5 p.m. Draw-with-Me: Comic Creation Workshop LIMITED SESSION Tweens Connect with your fellow tween comic enthusiasts to work on original narratives. Start or continue creating your own pages with inspirational templates, or from scratch, while imagining alongside your peers. 6:30 p.m. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? STREAMED SESSION Ages 8+ Join other investigators in a collaborative game of the classic geography computer game Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego? led by YouTuber Tamara Chambers. We’ll search for clues together and all vote to decide where they may lead us. Let’s make the Chief proud. Hit it, Rockapella! 7

Register for one session only. 1 p.m. Trivia: Comics and Books STREAMED SESSION Tweens, Teens and Adults Holy trivia, Batman! Keeping your nose stuck in a book is about to pay off. Do you pick things that are different in the show than the movie or TV show? Do you remember that one thing that happened in that one issue? We know you know, so now is the time to prove it. Hear from experts in the video game development field. In this panel discussion, you’ll have the opportunity to hear how different skills come together to create a finalized game. Ask your questions. Hear their insight. Game on. 5:15 p.m. Oregon Trail Speed Run STREAMED SESSION Tweens, Teens and Adults Join the winners of the Oregon Trail Competition as they form the ultimate wagon party. They’ll work with YouTuber Tamara Chambers to navigate the treacherous path to the Willamette Valley – in under one hour! Can they survive broken wagon wheels, sick oxen and river crossings? Come cheer them along as they try to beat the clock and survive the trip. Winners will be contacted via email and given the Zoom link to participate. 7 p.m. Trivia: Movies and TV STREAMED SESSION Tweens, Teens and Adults Lights. Camera. Trivia. You’ve watched the shows. You’ve watched the movies. We’ve assembled the questions. Bam! Just like that, it’s your test your prowess. Register as a single player or register as a team. One registration per team.
