“Combined study and practical stays for engineers from developing countries” (KOSPIE) in Germany from Tunisia for 2022 The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) supports the scholarship pro- Overview gramme "Combined study and practical stays for engineers from developing countries (KOSPIE)" with funds from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooper- ation and Development (BMZ). As part of this programme, young students from Tunisia from engineering subjects and IT complete a 3-6 month study and practi- cal stay at selected German universities to carry out their final thesis project. The selected German universities are Technische Universität Dresden (eligible for students from all Tunisian universities) and Universität Stuttgart (eligible for stu- dents enrolled at the Ecole Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Tunis only). The focus is on the practice-oriented training of specialists and managers from Tunisia. The long-term goal of the scholarship programme is to contribute to the sustainable development of Tunisia. The beneficiaries of the programme should ideally later work in development-related areas and thus make a contribution to strengthening the private (and/or public) sector in their home countries. Alumni of the programme are prepared for the technical/professional requirements of their future work and the practice-oriented and international profile of the alumni in- creases their employability. They plan to apply their skills in a field of activity rel- evant to their home country or home region. Stays at the selected German universities for implementing a final project (projet Programme de fin d’études) as part of an engineering course at a Tunisian university (for objectives Technische Universität Dresden) resp. engineering course of ENIT (for Universi- tät Stuttgart). The following programme objectives are derived from the long-term developmen- tal impacts sought: Scholarship holders enhance (a) their scientific and technical skills, (b) their practical ability and (c) their general and intercultural competence. There has been a very successful cooperation in the field of environmental research between LH2 and ENIT for almost ten years. The focus of this collaboration is the development of models for the analysis and prediction of salt spreading pro- cesses in the subsurface and in historic buildings. The existing research cooper- ation between both institutions is a fruitful basis to give ENIT Masters’ students insights into the work of the University of Stuttgart and its non-university partners. Programme content: • Acceptance of max. two Master’s resp. diploma students per semester from ENIT's engineering department. • Personal supervision of the individual research projects at the Department of Hydromechanics and Modelling of Hydrosystems of the University of Stuttgart. • Possibility to establish contacts with non-university or industrial partners in order to learn about different approaches in water management. • Participation in courses of the study programmes for international students of the University of Stuttgart. • Participation in excursions of the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engi- neering. • Possibility to get to know the Stuttgart university environment, the campus and its diverse facilities, as well as to network and exchange ideas with local students. • Participation in German language courses and the diverse interdisciplinary and intercultural programme for international students at the University of Stuttgart. Specific programme objectives of the Universität Stuttgart The international and interdisciplinary environment makes it possible to offer a successful programme that, in addition to the focal points already mentioned, helps to demonstrate an important transfer of knowledge between science and applications. Certain issues, such as environmental problems or water quality, cannot be sci- entifically solved in Germany alone. A global approach is absolutely necessary for this purpose. To enable Master's students to build international networks and develop knowledge, the University of Stuttgart has become a host university un- der the DAAD KOSPIE programme. Technische Universität Dresden Target group Master’s students resp. diploma students in the Engineering Sciences at state or state-recognised universities in Tunisia. Universität Stuttgart Master’s students resp. diploma students enrolled in an engineering degree pro- gramme of the Ecole Nationale d’Ingénieurs de Tunis (ENIT).
