CONVOCATION SPEAKER Chief Chuck Hoskin Jr. Chuck Hoskin Jr. was elected to serve as the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, the country's largest tribal government with more than 400,000 tribal citizens, in 2019. He previously served as Secretary of State and as a member of the Council of the Cherokee Nation. During his time as Principal Chief, he has increased minimum wage at Cherokee Nation and Cherokee Nation Businesses and secured the largest language investment in the tribe's history to expand Cherokee language education and preservation. He also appointed the tribe's first delegate to the U.S. Congress. He has prioritized health and wellness initiatives, including record investments in behavioral health and addiction treatment. Chief Hoskin has also expanded tribal workforce training programs, protections for natural resources, and early childhood education offerings. He and First Lady January Hoskin have worked together to elevate the voices of women and children on the Cherokee Nation Reservation. OU Law Class of 2000

AWARDS Henry Kent Anderson Human Service Award Awarded to a student in his or her last year of law school whose leadership, creativity, and vision have been demonstrated through exemplary accomplishments that showed an appreciation for history, culture, welfare, and economic development of our nation’s first people. Price Kelly Beardslee Criminal Defense Award This award is presented to a student who has completed at least two semesters in the Criminal Defense Clinic and who demonstrates a commitment to providing quality representation to those accused of criminal offenses. Lawson Yuanyuan Zhang Court Call Law Award This award is made each year to two outstanding members of the third-year class who demonstrate skill in Moot Court, Mock Trial, or Trial Advocacy Programs. Criteria include the dedication of the student to the overall success of the team performance, including quality of work on written briefs and oral presentations, ability to work together as a team to accomplish goals, as well as attendance and preparation during the practice rounds of the competition team. George F. Fagin Award This award recognizes a student(s) with scholarly legal writing in Municipal Law. Christopher J. Capraro Cindy Foley Award This award recognizes the clinical student(s), who, in the opinion of the clinic faculty, exhibits passion, competence, determination, and commitment in the representation of clients. Parker R. Olmstead Paul K. Frost II Memorial Award The Paul K. Frost II Memorial Award was established in 1979 in memory of Paul K. Frost II by his family. This award recognizes a student who is a resident of the state of Oklahoma and holds a distinguished rank in his or her second-year class. Prior academic achievement, strength of character, sense of serious purpose, leadership ability, and promise of future involvement in the governmental affairs of the state of Oklahoma are also considered. Mikaela A. Barns James F. Hawes Memorial Cup This award is made each year to the outstanding member of the second-year class. The award was established by Mrs. James Hawes in memory of her son, who passed away while a second-year law student at the College of Law. Robert L. Rembert Joel Jankowsky Award The Joel Jankowsky Award was established to recognize a member of the graduating class whose combined leadership, scholarship, and selfless service to others, exemplifies a standard of overall excellence deserving of the highest honor, and who has committed to future service to the state and nation as he or she leaves the College of Law to embark upon a professional career. The recipient’s name will be added to a bronze plaque to be displayed in a prominent place in Andrew M. Coats Hall. Rebecca A. Braun-Harrison McAfee & Taft Advocacy Award This award recognizes the third-year student(s) who has excelled in an area, court, or competition related to trial practice and procedure. Parker R. Judge Clarence M. Mills Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to benefit the children of district judges or associate district judges presently serving on the bench in the state of Oklahoma with consideration for prior academic achievement. Daley L. Gay Oklahoma Bar Association Bankruptcy & Reorganization Section Award This award recognizes a student with outstanding performance in the area of bankruptcy. Amy N.L. Oltmanns Oklahoma Bar Association Business and Corporate Law Section Award This award recognizes a student with outstanding performance in the area of corporate law. Sarah M. Salem Civil Rights Award This award was established in 1987 by Norman attorney Micheal Salem to recognize a student(s) who writes an outstanding paper on a civil rights topic. Steven B. Kappen Nathan Scarritt Prize The late Nathan Scarritt of Enid, an alumnus of the College of Law, offered annually for many years a gold medal to the student who graduates with the highest academic record. His sons, Nathan Scarritt, Jr. and Richard W. Scarritt, continue this prize in their father’s memory. Robert L. Rembert Gene H. & Jo Ann Sharp Law Review Award This award is presented to the students making the most significant contributions to the Oklahoma Law Review. Bailey S. Barnes Amy N.L. Robert B. Looper Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established by the members of the College of Law Class of 1953 to honor the memory of Robert B. Looper. Mr. Looper earned a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1953. Upon graduation, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship and Rockefeller Fellowship to study at Oxford University where he received a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1956. The scholarship is awarded to the deserving student who has attained the highest academic record for the first four semesters in the College of Law. Robert L. Rembert Frank C. Love Memorial Scholarship Established in 1982 by the family of Frank C.
