The swim will start in the water and swimmers will swim straight following marker buoys. There will be boats and kayaks on duty to help assist swimmers. There is a swim cut of of 30 minutes for sprint and 60 minutes for the olympic distance, which will be enforced. Organisers reserve the right to remove a swimmer from the water if they feel they are endangering themselves, members of the rescue team or other swimmers. If a swimmer wished to retire from the swim for any reason, lie on your back, raise your clenched fist in the air, stay calm and a rescue personnel will come to your assistance. You will be allowed to continue the race if you do wish to do so but will receive no official time/your timing chip will be removed. Ensure you pass over the time keeping mat/receiver after your swim when entering transition. Race number must be worn on the back. Competitors will NOT be allowed out of transition unless their race number is clearly visible. Your number must be clearly visible to the rear. To avoid delays to your time please help us help you! You must put on your helmet and fasten it before removing your bike from transition area. You must exit onto the road through/over the timekeeping receiver/mat before mounting your bike at the designated line/mark on the road. Do not mount your bike before this point or you will incur a 2 minute time penalty. Similarly on your return you must dismount your bike on/before the line/mark on the road before re-entering transition area. Marshalls will be present to inform you of both mounting and dismounting. You must replace your bike on the rack in your own spot before removing your helmet. Do not unfasten or take off your helmet before racking your bike. Bike Route The bike route is a looped course with two around points. One is in the town centre by transition and the other is out by Cobh Golf Club on the road out of Cobh. Caution
should be taken at turnaround points and these will be well marshalled. Atheletes will be warned to slow down at both turnaround points. The route will be well sign posted and is generally a flat cycle route. Rules of the road apply. Please obey the Gardai and stewards at all times. Failure to do so will lead to disqualification. On your return you must dismount on or before the dismount line, stewards will warn cyclists to prepare to slow down/dismount. Drafting Under no circumstances will drafting be allowed. Draft marshalls WILL BE in attendance. Draft rules reminder You are drafting if you enter a box around the leading athlete 12m x 13m measured from front wheel to front wheel unless you are making progress through the draft zone to overtake and complete the move in 20 seconds. Penalties for Drafting: A) It is forbidden to draft in a race declared as draft-illegal. B) Technical officials will notify the athletes who draft they are subject to a time penalty sanction. This notification must be clear and unambiguous. C) The athlete sanctioned has to stop in the next penalty box and must stay there for a specific time depending on the race distance. 2 minutes for sprint distance, 4 minutes for standard (olympic) distance D) It is the athlete's responsibility to stop in the next penalty box. Failure to stop will result in disqualification. E) A second drafting offence will lead to disqualification in standard distance events or shorter. F) The third drafting offence will lead to disqualification for long distance events. Finally and sadly there have been several accusations of pacing and coaching eg. athletes from the same club actively swimming, biking and running together. Like drafting, pacing is a form of cheating. Gaining an unfair advantage by these means is against the rules and not in the spirit of competition.

Also keep note of the number of loops you are supposed to perform.
CAR PARKING: Cobh is quite compact around the town area and therefore, there is very little parking in the centre of town, particularly in the race areas. Please use the car parks that stewards indicate to go to. Car Park Number 1: Cathedral Car Park: Follow above instructions, but drive past St Mary’s National School and take the second left. The Cathedral car park is straight up on the right. It is a short walk down the hill to Registration and Transition area. Car Park Number 2: Five Foot Way Car Park. This car park is on the run circuit and close to the Sprint swim. However you will not be be able to exit this car park until all competitors have completed the race. Drive into Cobh Town Centre, head towards the Heritage Centre and Stewards will guide you to you parking spot. This car park is for Jailbreak Triathlon competitors only, and can only be accessed via the Heritage Centre Entrance on the day of the race. BEST OF LUCK
