CO-CURRICULAR
ACTIVITES PROGRAMME

Moreton Bay College believes in a balanced educational experience. All girls are encouraged to participate in our
co-curricular programme which provide areas of opportunity in a wide range of activities that include sporting,
cultural, and science.
Through these activities, each student has the opportunity to reveal her unique potential; spiritually, socially,
physically and culturally. Excellent facilities and highly accredited facilitators maximise the girls’ opportunities for
success and personal growth.

ARTS AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Moreton Bay College is proud of the breadth and depth of its Arts and Cultural programme. Participation in
these activities contributes to the development of the whole person and promotes lifelong learning through
engagement with the Arts and other Cultural spheres.
Within the Arts and Cultural programme, the following activities are representative of the range that is offered:
Rebel Art Collective, Dance troupes, and a variety of Music Ensembles, Theatrical Productions and Musicals.
Rehearsal timetable for Music Ensembles will be released prior to 2021 commencement.

SPORTING ACTIVITIES
Many sports are offered at Moreton Bay College across all four terms of the school year. Some sports
commence and finish within the same term, others commence training in one term and culminate with
competitions in the next term, while some sports are all year long.
Moreton Bay College is a member of the Queensland Girls’ Secondary Schools Sports Association (QGSSSA)
and the Andrews Cup Association. The majority of sporting competitions are conducted by these Associations,
while others are operated by a range of Sports Associations and State Sporting Organisations.
The College is also a member of the Metropolitan East District Schools Association, which provides
opportunities for students to be selected in Regional and State teams for some sports.
Several sports, including swimming, may conduct live-in camps during their pre-season preparation and are
only available to students in Years 6-12. These camps are usually held in the holidays or over a weekend.
Participation in these camps is not compulsory for selection into teams; however, girls who attend receive
enormous benefits from this intensive period of coaching. Camps are also a lot of fun with many recreational
activities organised between training sessions.
Several sports are assisted by a Parent Support Group which operates under the umbrella of the MBC Parents
and Friends’ Association (P&F). These Support Groups assist in a wide variety of ways, including catering,
fund-raising, results recording, equipment transport and general assistance on competition days. Regular
meetings are held by each sporting Support Group, and help is always welcomed. Further information can be
obtained by contacting the Support Group representative listed for each sport.
If you require further information about any sport, please contact the Director of Sport, Mrs Sue Pavish,
on 3390 8555.

TOURS
The Tours programme offered by the College enables students to experience a cultural exchange through
international travel or to host a student from Japan or France.
The benefits of participation in this programme are many, including broadening students’ consideration and
understanding of others, personally and culturally, and the development of tolerance and resilience in meeting
the challenges of a new situation.

CLUBS/GROUPS AND PROGRAMMES
Clubs and Groups at MBC extend the range of co-curricular activities available to students. Areas as diverse as
Service Learning, Robotics, Debating, Public Speaking, Mooting and academic extension provide opportunities
for students to engage with others across year levels in various interest areas.

    TRAINING/PRACTICE/REHEARSAL
With the privileges of the co-curricular offerings come corresponding responsibilities. Students are expected
to be punctual to all training and rehearsals/practice sessions and are to wear appropriate uniforms and, at all
times, footwear. Secondary students may arrive and depart from the College in their sports uniform if they are
transported directly by car and are arriving before 7.30am or departing after 4.30pm. In all other circumstances,
students must arrive and depart in their full uniform. Students must observe a high standard of personal
behaviour and dress at all times.

    PRIVATE TUITION PROGRAMME
In addition to the College co-curricular programme, private tuition programmes provide participating students
with a further opportunity to develop skills and expertise in the cultural and sporting arena.

  AMNESTY INTERNATIONAL
The Amnesty group at MBC meets each week. Amnesty is dedicated to the promotion and defence of Human
Rights as outlined in the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights by the United Nations. It is mostly concerned
with defence of individuals rather than broad political issues. Meetings can include: discussions about issues
of importance; writing letters; planning for fundraising activities, such as Candle Day; preparing displays for
special days; or lunch hour information projects. There is the opportunity to invite guests to special meetings
to explain the details of selected world issues of the day. Students can attend conferences and workshops
organised by Amnesty International. The group has access to a monthly newsletter and the Amnesty website.
It is motivated by the idea of ‘knowledge-based activism,’ and would appeal to students who enjoy reading,
  researching and discussion.
