From the Vice-Chancellor’s Desk Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) has made a prodigious progress since its establishment in 2016. University has been recognized by the University Grants Commission under the UGC Act 1956 and has been authorized to award degrees in Graduation, Post-graduation and Research programmes. CUS has launched Fifteen 5-year Integrated, 11 Post-graduate and 4 Honor’s courses during the first two academic sessions. These courses have already become quite popular among the student community as the number of applications received were more than seven-thousand in 2018 session. The diversity of the fifteen 5-year Integrated courses offered has added a new dimension in the Higher educational sector of the State. The purpose of introducing these courses is that students shall be able to choose their specialized discipline of study at an early stage and become professionals in the chosen subject. In the first academic council meeting of the University conducted on December 12, 2018, it has been decided to establish two centers of excellence on “Quantum computing and Artificial Intelligence” and “Innovation and entrepreneurship development”. The setting-up these state-of-the-art centers shall provide a major boost to the research and innovation sector of the State. During the meeting, it has also decided to launch new innovative courses like 3-year Integrated B.Ed+M.Ed course from this academic session. In the words of Albert Einstein “Education is not the learning of facts, but the training of minds to think”. At CUS, we have introduced a multi-dimensional assessment system that includes seminars, group discussions, field survey etc. CUS has also adopted a policy of having complete transparency in the evaluation process and the students have access to the Xerox/Digital copies of the transcripts. CUS has been created by pooling the resources of five existing colleges of Amar Singh College, Sri Pratap College, Govt. College for Women, M. A. Road, Govt. Degree College, Bemina and Govt. College of Education. These constituent colleges have glorious past and have immensely contributed in the intellectual growth of the people of the State. Candidates who have any deficiency such as re-checking, re-valuation, late results (in case of CBSE students) or have a gap of one or more years have to fill-up the online Application form, available on the University website and also have to submitits Hard Copy in the office of the Cluster University Srinagar. Candidates should carefully read and follow the instructions available on the website before filling-up the relevant columns of the application form. A candidate has to deposit minimum Rs 700/ as Entrance Test fee for General Aptitude Test and the subject in which he/she is seeking an admission. A candidate can apply for more than one programme, if eligible as per admission norms, by making extra payment of Rs. 250/per subject. All programmes are full-time regular courses for the specified duration. However, “EXIT” option is available for students admitted in the integrated 5-year programmes after completion of three years as per University Statutes / University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations. 10
The University will conduct Common Entrance Test in the subjects:5-Year Integrated and 3- year Honours’ offered by the University and the selection will be based on Merit of the candidate: first thirty candidates in merit list will be offered the seats in Integrated/PG programmes & the next in merit-list will be offered seats in Honours and Professional programmes subsequently. Candidates who are not permanent residents of J&K State shall also be considered for the admission subject to the condition that the number of seats under this category does not exceed 5% of total number of seats (approved intake) available in the programme of study. SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR PROFESSIONAL, INTEGRATED AND HONOURS’ COURSES For Integrated 5-year PG, 3-year Honours’ and professional Programmes, selection shall be on the basis of the merit obtained by the candidate in the CUSAT(Cluster University Srinagar Admission Test), which comprises of two question papers of 50 marks each: i. Common Aptitude Test: 50 marks ii. Subject Specific Paper (syllabus 11th and 12th JK BOSE) : 50 marks Common Aptitude paper shall have 50 multiple-choice questions, comprising of General English (20 questions); General Reasoning (20 questions), and Mathematics (10 questions). Subject specific paper shall also have 50 multiple-choice questions. A copy of the syllabus for the subject specific paper can be downloaded from JK BOSE or from website of Cluster University Srinagar www.cusrinagar.edu.in Intake capacity for all 5-year Integrated programmes is 30 (Merit basis) + 10 (Self-financed). Intake capacity for each Honours programme is 40 Seats and for Professional Programme is 60 Seats. In case of candidates with discrepancies such as: a) Re-evaluation/Rechecking b) CBSE students, the admission will be purely provisional in nature and shall have to forfeit their seats in case they fail to pass their 10+2 class with the eligible percentage of marks up to and including May 31, 2019. Reservation policy shall be followed as per University/State Government rules and regulations. Candidates need not to submit the Hard Copy of their downloaded Application Form to the University office;although they can retain it for future reference. However, the candidates who have any discrepancy as mentioned at Para 2 of Admission Procedure shall have to deposit the hard copy of their downloaded Application Form at the Office of the University. Verification of documents will be made at any point of time during an admission process. The admission will be rejected if it is found that the applicant does not fulfil the eligibility criteria or has misrepresented/concealed the factual information regarding category and other details. 11
Submission of Application Form and to appear for the Entrance Test is subject to determination of Eligibility for admission to the programme and admission policy of the University. For admission under Self-financed seats category, only those candidates shall be considered for admission, who have appeared for the Entrance Test and shall be filled up as per merit obtained by the candidates in the Entrance Test. ADMISSION & SELECTION PROCEDURE FOR INTEGRATED B.ED-M.ED The programme is a full-time regular course for a duration of 3 Years. However, “NO EXIT” option is available before the completion of full course as per University Statutes / NCTE norms. Candidates should carefully read and follow the instructions, available on the website before filling-up the relevant columns of the Application Form. Candidates are required to submit Online Application Forms, available on the University website www.cusrinagar.edu.in. A candidate has to deposit Rs 700 as Entrance Test Fee and be paid online to the University Website: http://www.cusrinagar.edu.in/ Selection shall be made purely on the basis of the merit obtained by the candidates in the Entrance Examination to be conducted by the University. Candidates shall have to deposit University Fee component of Rs. 850/- through online mode only, which includes non-refundable Application Form fee of Rs. 100/- and refundable Registration /University Component fee of Rs.750/- (refundable only for those candidates who are not granted admission in any course by the College). However, in case of non-resident students, an additional Eligibility fee of Rs.110/- is to be deposited along-with the normal fee of Rs. 850/-. Candidates shall have to deposit College Component of Fee at the Concerned College where the admission is sought. Candidates can choose any subject combination, specified in the programme offered by the concerned college as per CBCS Scheme, and as per his/her eligibility. The selection of the candidate to B.A/B.Sc/B.Com/B.Sc (Home Science) programmes shall be based on the merit obtained by the candidates at the 10+2 level examination and intake capacity of the College for the programme. Candidates who have any discrepancy/deficiency in terms of result awaited, having a gap of more than one year, re-checking/re-evaluation, late result (in case of CBSE students) shall be granted provisional admission on their own risk and responsibility and are advised to produce an undertaking duly sworn before 1st class magistrate -- that they will submit requisite eligibility documents before 30th May 2019. Verification of documents will be made at any point of the time during an admission process. The admission will be rejected, if it is found that the applicant does not fulfil the eligibility criteria or has misrepresented/concealed the factual the information regarding category and other details. In case a student is not granted admission in any course, he/she shall be eligible for refund of admission fee (University Component) as per rules of the University. Constituent Colleges shall ensure that admissions are completed by or before 23rd February, 2019 so that class work for the 1st Semester is started from March 1st, 2019 without any delay. All the constituent colleges shall upload the Registration Return (RR) to the website and moreover, forward hard copy of RR within 30 days after commencement of the class work. 13

Achievements First Academic Council Meeting: The 1st Meeting of Academic Council was convened on 12fth December 2018, chaired by Prof. Sheikh Javid Ahmed Hon’ble Vice Chancellor. The Agenda included many proposals about introduction of new and relevant programmes in the University. Two-days National Conference on “Science in Development “: A two-day national conference on “Science in Development” was organised by Department of Environment and water Management and P.G. Department of Environmental Science, S.P. College on 3rd and 4th December, 2018. The conference was organised with an aim to provide a platform to the budding scholars to interact with the stalwarts in major fields of science. Around 200 academicians, researchers and post graduate students participated and gave a presentation on their research. Workshop on “Remote Sensing and GIS for Natural Recourses and Environmental Management”: A two- day National Workshop on “Remote Sensing and GIS in Environmental and Natural resource management” organised by Department of Environment and Water management, P.G. Department of Environmental Science in collaboration with J&K Department of Ecology, Environment and Remote Sensing on 23rd-24th March, 2018. The aim of the workshop was to provide training covering the basic as well as advanced techniques involved in Remote Sensing and GIS. Two Days National Seminar on “Scientific Temper Nurturing the Future” A Two-day national seminar on “Scientific Temper: Nurturing the Future” organised by Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics, S.P. college on 27th-28th November, 2018 with an aim to inculcate scientific temper in the students and scholars from diverse fields. A number of innovative lectures were delivered by various academicians. The Department of Physics S. P. College Srinagar in collaboration with J&K State Science Technology and Innovation Council Srinagar organised a one day workshop in the College auditorium on the theme “Recent Advances in Nano Science and Technology” on 6 th of October 2018. Workshop on “Evaluation for English Language Skills” School of Humanities and Liberal Arts, Cluster University Srinagar organized a Workshop in collaboration with Cambridge University Press on 27th September 2018 on the topic “Evaluation For English Language Skills” On this occasion Dean Humanities and Liberal Arts Prof (Dr) Nasreen Malik stated that “English Language Skills are not specific to one particular career path, but are generic across all employment sectors”. The Hona’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sheikh Javaid also enlightened the participants with his valuable words and distributed the certificates among them. Prof Yasmin Kawoos, Dean School of Education gave a brief over view of the history and status of Teacher Education, and also delibrated on the current challenges of quality education. Dr. Ajay Singh, Associate Professor, TISS spoke on the concept of three year integrated B.Ed/M.Ed programme which will be introduced from the current academic session. HISTORICITY OF FIVE CONSTITUENT COLLEGES Sri-Pratap College (School of Science) S.P. College, the oldest and premier institute of Higher Education in Kashmir has a history of 112 years of its glorious past. It was established in 1905, as an intermediate college by upgrading the famous Hindu High School, Srinagar. It was the personal effort of notable British Social Reformer and Educationist, Dr. Annie Besant who directed the Central Hindu College Trust, Banaras (to which it was affiliated) to appoint, Mr. M.U. Moore, a noted Irish scholar as the first Principal of the Institution. Beginning with a roll of eight students and six teachers on its staff, in a few years’ time, the college rose to the degree level in Arts by 1911, when State Government took it over and renamed it as Sri Pratap College after the name of the then ruler of the state Maharaja Pratap Singh. In 1912 the college got affiliated to the Punjab University, Lahore 1947. The college affiliated to the newly established University of Jammu & Kashmir, which remained till 1969. Subsequently, when the University of Kashmir came in to existence in 1969, the Institution got affiliated to the University. A major event in the history of the Institution was the delinking of Arts programmes in 1975, since then the has been functioning as Science Institution. In 2017 Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) was established Under RUSA, and the college became as one of its constituent colleges. The first NAAC cycle took place in 2004 with the grade B++. AMAR SINGH COLLEGE, SRINAGAR (School of Humanities and Liberal Arts) Amar Singh College Srinagar is a premier Post-Graduate college of the state, a Nodal College and a Constituent Lead College of the Cluster University Srinagar established under J&K State Act- III of 2016. Two Days Workshop on Communication Skills in English A Two-Day Workshop on “Communication Skills in English” was organised by the Department of English from 14th to 15thNov. 2017. The workshop was aimed at addressing the various problems faced by undergraduate students for effective communication in English. The effort of the department and the organising committee in this regard was to provide an amicable ambience, where highly trained resource persons interacted with the students and helped them to overcome their inhibitions and problems. Road, Srinagar is a premier institution of higher learning for women. Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, Srinagar Government College of Education, (School of Education) Institute of Advanced Studies in Education with the Mission of “Excellence in Teacher Education” is the Premier Teachers Training Institute in the state of J&K. The Institute made a humble beginning in the year 1937 as Teacher’s Training School in a small building at Magarmal Bagh, Srinagar. It was upgraded to the status of Teacher’s Training College in the year 1948 and used to offer courses of B.T and D.T up to 1956. In 1956 the college was shifted to the present campus. In 1968, the nomenclature of the college was changed and named as Govt. College of Education, Srinagar.
