Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine Class of 2024 White Coat Ceremony Saturday, August 29, 2020
President’s Welcome This year’s White Coat Ceremony is clearly fo- cused on the calling and challenge you have ac- cepted. The students and faculty of RVU have played, and continue to play, a significant role in the COVID-19 Pandemic. Not since 1918 has our Country’s medical professionals been challenged by such a far-reaching pandemic. It challenges us, as a graduate healthcare University, to insist on the most advanced educational technologies and curricular emphasis, while never forgetting our commitment to the healing power and the impor- tance of body, mind, and spirit. Our successes are a result of our dedicated faculty and staff who are pas- sionate about working with a diverse, robust student body. Our mission statement reads: “Rocky Vista University provides quality healthcare edu- cation while inspiring students to serve with compassion, integrity and excellence.” This is more than just words stenciled on our walls; they are words we live by every day. The commitment to our mission is evident in collaboration, rather than competition, among all members of the RVU Community—faculty, staff, students, administrators, and members of our Board of Trustees. This sense of family and pride resonates in the halls of RVU. Compassion, integrity, and a strong sense of service are traits we seek when selecting members of our community, a community that not only respects the diversity we enjoy but embraces the strength that diver- sity brings us. We are a community committed to the highest ideals on the local, national, and international level and we hold ourselves to the highest ethical standards. Welcome to Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine’s Class of 2024. Clinton E. Adams, DO, FACHE President and CEO of Rocky Vista University
Deans’ Welcome We are happy to have you join us on this important first phase in your journey to become an outstanding osteo- pathic physician. You are entering a transformative pro- gram that will set your feet firm and straight on the path of service to your community and to all of humanity. The House of Medicine has high expectations and standards for all who enter its walls. We have chosen you because we feel you can meet those high expectations and stan- dards, which include not just good academic and proce- dural skills, but outstanding ethical and moral behavior, as well. It is our charge to provide you with the mentor- ship, basic knowledge, and clinical skills to successfully enter the next phase of your physician training—resi- dency. It is your responsibility in turn to apply yourself and learn the subjects well, master clinical skills, and continue to magnify them throughout your time at RVU. From the moment you enter RVU, we expect you to start transforming your mindset to that of a physician and to act like a physician with the highest standards of professionalism. You will be judged as a professional repre- senting the House of Medicine. Please remember that you will be held at a much higher standard than your peers who are not in medical school. We expect you to always be a positive role model for RVU and the profession. We appreciate you choosing to join our family here at RVUCOM; you have made the right decision. Whether you are joining us from the snowcapped peaks of Parker or from the enchanting vista of the Red Mountain in Ivins, we are one University and one big osteopathic medical family. Sincerely, Thomas N. Told, DO, FACOFP-dist. Dean of RVUCOM David J. Park, FACOFP, FAAFP Campus Dean of RVUCOM-SU

THANK YOU Medical education at Rocky Vista University has been a partnership be- tween the school and the community of physicians who help impart their skills upon the next generation of physicians. There is no greater partner in this most worthwhile endeavor than the Denver Osteopathic Foundation. Born out of the closing of Colorado’s most iconic osteopathic hospitals, Rocky Mountain Osteopathic Hospital, the Denver Osteopathic Founda- tion has been the standard bearer for promoting philanthropy and growth in our profession throughout Colorado and the Mountain West. We are grateful for their work and support on behalf of our students and the University. The Foundation has provided scholarships and support in many ways to RVU. This year, we are especially grateful that they are providing the white coats that will be presented to our first-year students. In addition to the RVUCOM emblem, we are honored to have our students carry the Denver Osteopathic Foundation logo on their white coats as they enter the osteopathic profession and begin the process of becoming physi- cians. Thanks again, Denver Osteopathic Foundation, for all you do for RVU. Sincerely, Thomas N. Told, DO, FACOFP-dist. Dean of Rocky Vista University College of Osteopathic Medicine David J.
