Carson’s Fall Colors Draft Horse Sale & Futurity Promotion Events Sale starts at 9:00 A.M. with All Tack & Equipment Selling Futurity Classes will all take place on Friday, October 25th, 2019 Halter Class – 11:00 A.M. No straw for bedding. Shaving will be available to purchase. Attention bred mare buyers! All bred mares will have a note from their vet at home but if you are in any doubts we can have a veterinarian here to check her before she leaves. At the new buyers expense. Attention Consignors – Please supply a new leather or nylon halter and lead rope that will go with each horse. If you fail to provide this the committee has the right to purchase a new halter, the cost of the halter will be deducted from the sale price. Ontario Percheron Club will be holding An All-Breed Banquet at the Listowel, Ag. Hall on Friday Night. Everyone Welcome. Please reserve your tickets so they know approximate numbers. This is an ever growing event, which our competitors work very hard to train and break these 2 Year Olds to the highest of standards. We also recorded the highest ever average for the weanlings selling, which is helping and encouraging our breeders to continue their good work. Carson’s Draft Horse Futurity Promotion Rules & Regulations This is one (1) event, consisting of there (3) equal divisions as follows: Draft Horse Classic Line Class, Draft Horse Pattern Cart Class & Draft Horse Hitch Cart Class, Points are totaled to determine a winner. There will be three (3) judges. A tiebreaker judge will be designated prior to the event. Judges will not confer on their placing. This year’s judges are: To Be Decided This event will now take place all on one day, Friday October 25th. Starting with the halter class and once the competitor leaves the ring they will select an number out of a hat to decide the order of go in the pattern class. Make sure you know when your allocated time is and be ready at the ring. The class may be split; 8 horses only in the ring, a drive off may be requested in the cart class. The winner of the Futurity will be the horse receiving the lowest points overall from all (3) divisions. All horses will be placed with the first horse getting 1 point and so on in all the classes and then the total will be calculated and the winner will have the lowest points. Horses will be examined walking and trotting all from the same point. Each judge will examine the horse and may ask them to be re-worked. Horses must show in all divisions to receive prize money or an award. The top ten (10) finishers of the Futurity must be available for presentation and pictures in the sale ring immediately prior to the start of the sale on Saturday. If less than 10 horses are entered in the futurity, purse money will be awarded to the number of horses competing. The remaining purse money will be put back into the program for the following year. In order to get prize money all horses must compete in a 3 classes. Each competitor will receive a minimum of $200.00 Notification of a futurity horse being sold should be given to Carson’s Office within 30 days. DRAFT HORSE CLASSIC LINE CLASS Emphasis to be placed on an individual that is conformation ally correct and sound on all feet and legs. Balance, breed type, form to function, smoothness of body parts, eye appeal and the action of the individual all to be considered. All breeds, all sexes, to show in the same class. DRAFT HORSE HITCH CART CLASS Designed to show a free, easy moving individual that is relaxed, with alert ears, moving balanced with a non-intimidated, forward way of going, and bright and responsive to the driver at various gaits. All breeds, all sexes, to show in the same class. Rail work, in both directions of the ring, will consist of walking and trotting. Judging will be based on the horse’s overall performance and way of going as well as its ability to hold
the designated gait. Action, headset, type and eye appeal all to count. Horses may be asked to back. DRAFT HORSE PATTERN CART CLASS (Same course as last year) Will consist of an individual pattern or work, designed to show how well broke the horse is. Work will consist of a simple pattern designed for a two-year old. 1. Enter the arena at a walk toward the right. 2. Trot a complete circle then cut a complete figure of 8. 3. Stop in center of the figure of 8. 4. Fan left, 90 degrees, pause. 5. Fan right, 180 degrees, and pause. Fan left 90 degrees. At all times the cart wheels are to pivot on the line, each way when fanning. 6. At will enter the new obstacle, 4ft X 8ft plywood to simulate a bridge, where both horse and cart must cross completely over bridge. 7. Then move towards and enter keyhole. Drive around keyhole and exit. One cart wheel must be inside keyhole at all times. 8. Go to the left and walk through rails. Cart wheels must be completely past the rails. Then, back clear through the rails. 9. Once out of the rails back up to a 8ft dock rail and stop 10.Proceed forward and trot to the exit gate and leave the pattern course. Pattern only to be judged with emphasis on the correctness of each element and overall smoothness of the pattern. Speed is not the object. Elements to be judged at the two- year-old ability level. Scoring Guidelines of Pattern Cart Class Important: This class is placed by each judge scoring each maneuver and an overall placing given. The score for each element is reflected on a maneuver by maneuver and penalty by penalty basis. Penalties, per obstacle, to be given for the following, these are guidelines only: Fifty (50) Penalty points for – refusal, bucking, kicking and rearing. One Hundred (100) Penalty points for – blatant disobedience, going off pattern. Dismissal – excessive abuse, horse or driver falling to the ground (driver’s foot touching of horse’s shoulder touching), excessive use of whip, or horse behavior considered a danger to themselves or other. Equipment & Exhibitors All horses are to be shown in either work or show harness as long as it is neat and clean. No bias when being judged. However, the same harness and cart and/or fore-cart must be used in both the cart and pattern class, with the same driver. No brakes allowed. All drivers to show in appropriate attire. Use of inhumane training devices and/or equipment will not be tolerated, in the show arena or designated warm up arena, and will be cause for eliminated from the competition. Horses and equipment are subject to examination by show management and/or judges in the show arena and designated warm-up arenas at all times.
This Pattern Course will change there is a meeting on August 2nd to discuss. Futurity competitors will be sent the undated information

A few members had expressed concern over how the points system was totaled. This was discussed with the following outcome. All 3 judges will judge each section and give their placing from 1st to 20th or, however many competitors there are. The complete pattern class will be scored by each judge with each judge giving their own places. The sections will not be broken down. The change in this point system will come into effect this year. Only 35% of the selling price goes back into the Futurity Pot, 55% goes to the seller and 10% goes to Carson's for Admin. This has been a very successful program that is helping our draft horse industry and getting a better price for our breeders. Page 6 of 24
Since this program has started we have gone form $2072.00 per head average for our colts selling to $5141.00 per head for 28 colts selling last year. This is a dramatic increase as a result of this program and the support we are getting from our breeders, competitors, sponsors and spectators.
