Schools Recommendation Schemes Submissions due by 20 September Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one of the ways that some tertiary institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission to Year 12 students by using criteria other than (or in addition to) the ATAR. A full list of participating institutions is available on UAC’s Schools Recommendation Scheme website. There are no fees to apply for SRS and you can only submit one SRS application. You don’t need to nominate any courses in your SRS application because it is automatically linked to your list of course preferences in your UAC application for undergraduate admission. How to complete your SRS application: 1. Before you can apply for SRS, you need to apply for undergraduate admission through UAC. When you do, you’ll be issued with a UAC application number, which you’ll need to begin your SRS application. 2. Log in to the SRS application using your UAC application number and PIN. A series of questions and prompts will then guide you through the application process. 3. Enter your Year 11 studies, if prompted to do so in your application. You usually don’t have to provide results of your Year 11 studies with your SRS application as UAC obtains them directly from the relevant educational authorities. If you are not prompted to enter your Year 11 studies or to provide documents there is no need to do so. 4. Upload institution-specific documents, if required. 5. Review your application summary. 6. Accept the declaration. 7. Download your Confirmation of Application. How to prepare for a successful audition for the University of Sydney Conservatorium To study at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, you will need to audition. This can be a nerve-racking experience – but it doesn’t have to be. An audition is your opportunity to show your abilities. It allows The Conservatorium to assess your skills and discuss your commitment. Here is what you need to do to get the process started: 1. Register for your audition online. If you can’t attend in person, you can submit a video-recorded audition. Your recording must be no more than 4 months old. 2. Double check all the requirements. Make sure you follow the audition requirements for your specialisation. If you’re auditioning on an instrument or voice, remember you need to have an accompanist. 3. It all comes down to sound quality. Whatever equipment you’re using to record your audition, do your best to maximise the sound quality by choosing your location carefully. If you can, try and use an ensemble room or recital hall. It doesn’t need to be recorded professionally; a simple ZOOM recorder is enough. 4. It’s not what you play that counts, it’s how you play. When selecting repertoire, you want to play it comfortably and well. A piece that’s achievable is better than going for something that’s difficult. The audition panel will look for quality of performance. 5. Show your personality. An audition panel consists of musicians. Show them that you’re one too and that you have a passion for music. Be technically proficient, but don’t fret about technique – they’ll be on the lookout for potential.

The Bachelor of Quantum Engineering (Honours) will train students in advanced electronics and telecommunication engineering, specialising in how to design and control complex quantum systems. Nanoelectronics, microwave engineering and quantum tech- nologies for advanced sensors, secure communications and computing will also be covered. Alternate entries into University Schools Recommendation Schemes Submissions due by 20 September Schools Recommendation Schemes (SRS) are one of the ways that some tertiary institutions make early offers of undergraduate admission to Year 12 students by using criteria other than (or in ad- dition to) the ATAR. A full list of participating institutions is available on UAC’s Schools Recommendation Scheme website. University of Sydney Elite Athletes and Performers (EAPLP) Scheme Applications Close 31 October The EAPLP supports students applying for an undergraduate degree with a flexible entry process. Students who have excelled in the areas of sport, academia, leadership, and/or music at an elite level during Years 11 and 12 may apply for the Program which awards bonus points. University of Sydney Academic Excellence Scheme in English and Maths The University’s Academic Excellence Scheme recognises high performing students in English and Mathematics by applying adjustment factors to boost selection ranks. Depending on the course students have applied for and whether they achieved a Band 5 or 6 (or equivalent) in high-level English or Mathematics, they can have an adjustment of up to five points added to their ATAR, to raise their selection rank for an eligible course. If a student’s ATAR score is up to five points below the entry requirement for their course of choice, through this scheme they can potentially still gain entry to that course. UNSW Faculty of Engineering Admission Scheme Thinking of commencing your UNSW Engineering degree in 2021? Issue 10 This scheme is an alternative pathway for students who want to study engineering at UNSW but might not be confident that they will meet the Guaranteed Entry Rank (GE) of 93.00. Further information about this scheme is available on their website. How do I defer a Uni course? If you are thinking about deferring university, UAC outlines the steps you need to take, but there are some key points to remember: • When you receive an offer to enrol in a specific course, information included with your offer will explain how to apply for deferment for that specific course. • Most institutions will ask you to provide a statement to explain why you wish to defer and what you’ll be doing during the time. Some institutions will only let you defer in special circumstances. • You may have to accept the offer before you can defer. • Not every course runs every year! So all deferments are subject to the course being offered the following semester or following year. • If your deferment is approved, you’ll receive written confirmation from the institution. This will also give instructions on how to take up your deferred course. • If, at the end of the deferment period, you decide you’d like to be considered for other courses, you have to complete a new UAC application and include these new courses you’d like to be considered for. If you receive an offer to one of the new courses, you can then decide whether to accept the new offer or take up your deferred course. University Courses Year 12 2020 - Register for your USI now! A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is a lifelong 10-digit number that all tertiary students will use throughout their educational journey beyond school. From 2021, any person undergoing nationally recognised training or studying at university will need a USI. This system has been in place for some courses for several years now, but will be extended to all higher education students starting in 2021. Students who have undertaken a TAFE course may already have a USI but most students from the Class of 2020 will need to register for one. As this will be your personal education number, you should set up your USI using a personal email address, not a school or shared email address. How do I defer a Uni course? Issue 11 USYD | Architecture, Design and Planning Portfolio Workshop 17 November 2020, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm The portfolio submission is a potential way for students to enter programs in the School of Archi- tecture, Design and Planning if they have achieved close to the required ATAR. In conjunction with the HSC and other formal assessment systems, the portfolio assists the University to identify stu- dents with the potential to excel in these fields. To understand how this process works, The Uni- versity of Sydney is hosting an online Portfolio Workshop to offer students an opportunity to hear from the experts assessing portfolios. Students may ask them how to select works and the best way to present them to gain five extra ATAR points towards the Sydney School of Architecture, Design and Planning degrees. Further information about the portfolio submission process is outlined here.
