Council 1626 Grand Knight’s Message Spring is here and the season of Easter is upon us. Easter is calculated as the first Sunday after the first full moon of the spring equinox. Therefore, the time of Easter varies every year because of the changes in times of the actual vernal equinox and the lunar cycle. ! The original decision when Easter should fall each year was made by the Council of Nicaea in 325 AD, who was the first major church council. But in the modern time of 1582, the Julian Calendar from the Julius Caesar reign was replaced by the Gregorian calendar which used the seven-day week combined with the moon cycles to determine the date each year. But no matter the calculation method the celebration of the resurrection of Christ is one of the most significant events in the church’s A Message from the Deputy Grand Knight liturgical year and an opportunity for a fresh start. I write this at the beginning of what I believe is surely one Spring is a season associated with a new beginning or of the most important points in all our liturgical year, Holy rebirth. And the liturgical year reflects that re-awakening Week. There is so much to observe about and pray upon with the joyful resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday. as we prepare to There is a tremendous amount of symbolism in our complete our Lenten Easter decor and traditions. The Family of the Month, recognizes those families that are doing those extra things to raise their children in a faith filled environment. That is a great challenge today with the impacts of the counterculture found on all types of social media today. But we all know of many families that are rising above that anti faith sentiment and developing safe God loving families. If you know of a family that deserves such recognition, please email me with the name of the family and why you think they merit to be recognized as a Knight’s Family of the Month. Weekly Donation Envelope Delivery A special thanks to Brother Jim Morrison for coordinating the delivery of about 250 St. Mary’s weekly collection envelopes that had not been picked up because of the COVID restrictions. A number of fellow Knights volunteered and we were able to deliver most of them over a two week period. Father Larry sends us all a Big Thank You and Best Wishes for this special parish effort. In 1675 she revealed to a Jesuit Priest her desire to receive baptism. On Easter Sunday 1676, Tekakwitha Bro. Al MacLeod was given the name Catherine (for Catherine of Siena) Council 1626 which was modified to the Mowhawk ‘Kateri’ (Gah-deh- LEE). On several occasions her relatives tried to make her marry, but her constant refusal only brought persecution and death threats from other villagers. She always declared that she would only be wedded to Jesus and took a vow of perpetual chastity. “I can have no other spouse but Jesus Christ. I have considered myself content to live in poverty and misery for His love.” To escape the harassment, she was advised by Native Christians in the village to pray unremittingly and to leave for the Saint-François-Xavier mission at Saint-Louis (Lachine, Quebec). In the autumn of 1677, with the aid of three indigenous neophytes, she fled. She took her first communion at Christmas of 1677 and in spring 1678 was received into the Confrérie de la Sainte-Famille. The strength of Kateri Tekakwitha’s spirituality and mysticism lay in an extraordinary purity of body and soul and a precious sense of charity towards all, even amidst the persecution. She lived to the fullest that her weak health would allow her to participate in the village life of her people and on the great winter hunts.
