We are officially halfway through one of the strangest years in modern history. 2020 has certainly GENERAL MANAGER'S REPORT been a rollercoaster. COVID-19 has most definitely affected each and every one of us, the CLPOA, and every local business in ways we never imagined. After being closed to the public for a nearly two months, we re-opened to the public on May 18, and we continued to serve our members virtually throughout this unprecedented situation. While things are far from normal today, we gradually reopened nearly all of our amenities and services with some modifications. The Golf Course, both restaurants, the pool, and Canyon Lake POA building are all open with some physical distancing restrictions in place. In all cases, we are following State Guidelines as we try to return to some new form of normal. We were pleased to be able to retain almost all of our hardworking team while the Stay At Home Orders were in place. Most of you know that we were able to obtain a Paycheck Protection Program loan which allowed us to continue to pay our employees so that they could feed their families during the COVID-19 closures. Those funds are 100% forgivable, and they will allow the Canyon Lake POA to weather the losses at all our revenue centers without having to pass those losses on to the members. For more information about this, visit (www.clpoa.com/ppp) Overall, we have been fortunate to navigate our way back much closer to our customary way of operating. During the closures, many of us continued to provide essential services, and come to work every day. We’ve accomplished a lot this quarter, despite our crazy world. We finished our massive pool rehabilitation, and replaced the failing plaster, concrete deck, landscaping, audio and lighting systems. The finished product is spectacular and we truly have an all-new resort quality pool with lake views second to none. As I write this, we are operating with a slightly reduced capacity and an online pool reservation system at www.clpoa. com/swimming. Our Pavement Project is wrapping up, and when we complete the Lodge ramp to the rental docks, we will finalize the Lodge parking lot, landscaping and turf. We look forward to putting the finishing touches on this amazing transformation. We have some excellent project progress photo albums online at www.flickr.com/ photos/canyonlakepoa. I invite you to visit these albums and see where our reserve funds are going, and the process of making these top quality improvements. The drone progress photos of the Golf Course Lake Rehabilitation Project, which is nearly complete, are particularly impressive. The finished product there will pay for itself in 4 years, and is going to be just beautiful! We have had great results conducting Virtual Board meetings via Zoom, with over 70 people attending via Zoom and or Facebook Live. We are working to continue a hybrid version of live and Zoom meetings, so that more of our members can attend and interact. We want to welcome Joe Kamashian to the Board, and congratulate Jim Barringham for being re-elected. Further congratulations are due to our new Board President, Chris Poland, VP Tom Nathan, Treasurer Jeanne O’Dell, and Secretary Joe Kamashian. We spent a full week on Zoom doing Virtual Board Orientation with our very committed Board. I can tell you that this Board is very organized and they have mapped out a year’s worth of agenda items and they have already done a lot. I expect this year to be a very productive year. Read more about our new Board on page 6. I look forward to seeing you all around the community and we truly hope you enjoy your summer here. PRESIDENT'S REPORT Greetings From Your Board I am honored to have been selected as your President of the Board and extend to you the Board’s commitment to team with our Canyon Lake POA staff to take care of and enhance our “bit of paradise”. Please look a little farther in the magazine, or on our website (www.clpoa.com) to find out more about each one of us. We are truly fortunate to be a mature, well organized, well run community with an extraordinary staff and a rich history. We are, in fact, a community of communities bound together by a flexible set of governing documents that allow us to share this amazing property, support each of our individual interests, and appreciate the security of a gated community. Your board represents the cross section of interests we have and will work to accommodate the expressed concerns and wishes in a balanced manner. It was important for us to start this term by agreeing on our core values, purpose, vision, and goals for our term and adopting them as the Board’s Principles. The core values are our guiding principles that will direct behavior and decision making, our purpose is why we exist as defined in our governing documents, our vision is the future-oriented declaration of our aspirations, and the goals are what we have set out to accomplish this year in addition to our normal operations. We, as your Board, spent the third week of May with the staff in spirited discussion, focused on understanding our association, how it is managed, the ongoing operations, and the laws we operate under. You will find the full statement of the Board Principles on the website at www.clpoa.com/boardprinciples. Please read it and let us know what you think. We look forward to hearing from you on any topic by email to board@canyonlakepoa.com, by individual email or through personal conversation. Chris Poland, SE, FACEC, NAE 2020 Board President Canyon Lake Property Owners Association LEAVE YOUR MARK IN CANYON LAKE Did you know there is a new bench program in Canyon Lake? Any resident or club may purchase a commemorative bench to be installed at designated parks in the community. These benches are a great way to give back to the community, and provide recognition. There are two different styles of benches available. The Canyon Lake POA will purchase the bench with your donation. Your club or family name and the current year will be inscribed on the bench. For more information about purchasing a bench, please contact the Canyon Lake POA's Activities department at 951.244.6841 x610 or email activities@canyonlakepoa.com. 4 Canyon Lake Canyon Living Lake Magazine Living – Spring Magazine 2020 – Summer 2020 4
