The League of Professional Theatre Women
About the Brown/Trinity Rep M.F.A. programs
The Brown University/Trinity Rep M.F.A. Programs provide a three-year professional training
program under the auspices of an Ivy League university and Rhode Island’s Tony Award-winning
theater company. Brown University’s Department of Theatre Arts and Performance Studies is
internationally recognized for the quality of its faculty and instruction. Trinity Rep, with its deep
tradition of resident artists, provides powerful artistic assets and creates a firm foundation for
a new generation of theater artists. Together, the two organizations have produced a model
of theater training that is rigorous and technically demanding, offering particular emphasis on
training the whole theater artist.

                                     About Trinity Rep
Rhode Island’s Tony Award-winning theater, Trinity Rep has created unparalleled professional
theater for and with its community since its founding in 1963. Trinity Rep strives to facilitate
human connection and has been a driving force behind the creativity that fuels and defines the
region for more than 50 years. Trinity Rep is committed to reinventing the public square and
inspiring dialogue by creating emotionally-stimulating live productions that range from classical
to contemporary and innovative education programs for all ages and abilities. Its annual
production of A Christmas Carol has brought families together for 40 years and made memories
for over a million audience members. Trinity Rep’s 2019-20 Season continues with: A Tale of

                      About the M.F.A. Thesis Productions
This production is the work of a third-year directing M.F.A. student in collaboration with a cast
of third-year M.F.A. actors. In their first year, M.F.A. directing students explore methods of
collaborating with actors to communicate a story clearly and directly to an audience, directing
workshop productions of established texts. In the second year of training, they add playwrights
and theatre designers to their collaborations, focusing on dramaturgy and conceptualization
to create small-scale productions of new plays and classics. In their third and final year,
students direct their thesis production, collaborating with colleagues in the acting program and
professional designers, with the full support of the Trinity Rep production staff. We are proud
to introduce you today to a director and a group of actors who we believe will make significant
contributions to the American theater.
