February Gathering We have been working with the location for our annual birthday and anniversary party. The price of everything is on the rise in addition to the shipping problems. After a lot of head scratching, we selected a buffet for our meal. We will not have any entertainment this year, giving us more time for catching up. There will be a very short meeting before dinner. This will provide us an opportunity to discuss any Virgil Siewert changes, gatherings or other club items. 2022 Buick Club of America National Looks like it will be large. The host hotel is full and the overflow hotel is taking reservations at the same room rate. If you ever thought about attending a national, this one is a nice day’s drive away. I encourage you to attend. It is a great opportunity Stay Warm and Stay Safe Jim to see some beautiful cars and meet great people from a number of countries, all though the bug may deter foreign travelers this year. It seems the Buick GNX is getting lot of attention lately. There are a couple low mileage ones floating around the car market. I have seen numbers like 33 to 800 actual miles. Why have them if you do not drive and enjoy them? We have 6 Buicks with between 100,000 (our low mileage car) to 250,000 miles. As you can see, we enjoy and drive them. More on the GNX in this issue.

JANUARY BIRTHDAYS Dorothy Hudson Jim Jaeger Richard McCrory Rollie Toenges JANUARY ANNIVERSARIES Alan and Joy Oldfield Kevin Kinney I am sad to report the loss of a driving force in the collector car world. Kevin Kinney was a past Director of the Minnesota Gopher State Chapter of the Buick Club of America, a past President of the Buick Club America. He was also heavily involved in the Buick Riviera Association and Oldsmobile organizations. Kevin had a wealth of knowledge on automobiles and was willing to share it and help in any way. We will all miss his smiling face. He was only 62. Our condolences to his family. 1973 Buick GS Drag Races 1979 Buick Century Turbo Coupe General Motors produced roughly 1,100 examples of the Buick Century Turbo Coupe between the 1979 and 1980 model years, making this lesser-known Buick performance coupe one of the more rare GM vehicles of the late 1970s and early 1980s. There is a video of this race on the internenet.
Page 5 Newsletter of the Fireball Chapter Buick Club of America Prices for GNXs are definitely on the rise… To the non-gearhead people, the Buick GNX seems to not be all that impressive. After all, other than the blacked-out exterior, it looks similar to something their grandpa drove back in the day. That’s why people seem to be freaking out about a GNX which caused quite the bidding frenzy on eBay recently, the final bid coming in at $249,999 to set a new record for the site. They probably think car people are all a bunch of idiots. The last 1987 Buick Grand National ever built heads to auction with 33 miles on odometer. The last Buick Grand National ever made is heading to auction with Barrett-Jackson at the company's flagship Scottsdale, Arizona, auction scheduled for Jan 22-30, 2022. Throughout the Malaise Era, the Indianapolis 500 almost always managed to find interesting vehicles to use as pace cars: The Hurst/Olds Cutlass in 1974, C3 Corvette in '78, Fox Mustang in '79 and Pontiac Trans Am Turbo in 1980. But in 1976, Indy had a posher pace car—and at the upcoming Mecum auction, you'll be able to pick up a replica. Say "Have a nice day!" to the 1976 Buick Century Pace Car Edition. Gas Prices Over the years we all heard about, or us older members have experienced, gas at $0.19 cents. We heard we could fill a car for $2.00 and have change left over for a burger. I recently came across an article talking about gas prices. Gas in 1937 was $0.19 per gallon. Bringing that up to today’s dollar value would make the gas $3.41 today. Feel better?? They project $4.00 gas by Memorial Day. That is $0.39 in 1937 dollars.
Page 7 Newsletter of the Fireball Chapter Buick Club of America Friends, please be careful Yesterday I went to a Christmas party. I had a few beers. followed by a few cocktails, followed by a few shots…I still had the sense to know that I was over the limit. That’s when I decided to do what I had never done before, I took a cab home. Sure enough there was a police road block on the way to my house and since it was a cab. they waved it past. I arrived home without incident. This was both a great relief and a surprise because I had never driven a cab before, I don’t even know where I got it from and now that it is in my garage, I don’t know what to do with it. 1972 Buick Skylark GSX Replica Gives You All The Muscle At A Bargain Price Tribute cars are an excellent way to experience the original, for a lot less! While Buick may not be a very talked-about brand these days, this insane American luxury automobile company has deep roots in the awesome GM muscle cars that we all know and love today. Models such as the GNX or Regal will forever be cemented into the minds and hearts of automotive enthusiasts everywhere as they paved the path for the modern supercar slayers that roam the streets of the USA. However, if you look at what came before those vehicles, you’ll find a great lineup of tire-burning muscle cars, especially within the A-body platform. Many enthusiasts would love to get their hands on a vehicle like the one we are about to show you because of its incredible design, massive engine, and ‘70s heritage.
