Welcome from the ESSR 2011
Congress President

On behalf of the ESSR, it is a great pleasure for me to welcome you at the
18th Annual Scientific Meeting of our society!
The scientific programme will focus on “Bone Marrow” disorders as a
2-day refresher course, which will cover many aspects of the topic. Six
additional focus sessions have been planned, many of them as activities of
the various ESSR subcommittees. A new session in this congress will be
the one on research and education.
The popular “hands-on” workshop in musculoskeletal ultrasound at basic and advanced
levels, is taking place on Thursday afternoon, June 9. This year’s topic will be “Ultrasound of
the Shoulder Girdle & Upper Arm”.
During the congress, a state-of-the-art technical exhibition will display the latest
developments in radiological equipment, supplies and services. A sea-view veranda
will host the coffee and lunch breaks. EPOS, originally introduced by N. Gourtsoyiannis,
Professor of Radiology at the University of Crete and President of the ECR 2003, has
become a viable part of many European Subspecialties Congresses. A dedicated corner will
host EPOS and the scientific posters.
The social programme will be attractive for both the participants and their companions.
The beautiful and historic island of Crete will offer exciting opportunities for combining
science with leisure and culture.
The 18th ESSR Annual Scientific Meeting welcomes all radiologists with an interest in
musculoskeletal imaging, both members and non-members of ESSR. Young radiologists
are specifically invited to join our annual congress and to present their own work. A close
and functioning link between seniors and the next generation of radiologists will guarantee
a bright future for our society.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to all colleagues in ESSR Committees and Sub-
committees, as well as the local and international board members for their substantial con-
tribution in building up the scientific programme.
I look forward to experiencing all of you as active participants of one of the most important
scientific events in the exciting field of musculoskeletal radiology.
