Dear Friends, Ten years ago, I committed to doing everything in my power to help our nation’s homeless pets. When BISSELL Pet Foundation started, I had only begun to understand the widespread need and suffering, yet I knew the foundation could make an impact. Whether you’ve been a supporter and follower from those early days, or if this is your first introduction to BISSELL Pet Foundation, I am grateful for your belief in our mission and support of our work. It takes all of us coming together to save lives. There have been moments along the way I will never forget: the profound sadness of entering a puppy mill for the first time, being hugged with tears of gratitude by an overwhelmed shelter director, hosting our first Empty the Shelters and watching pets leave with loving families, seeing an Arkansas community line up at dawn for our free spay/neuter clinic—there are too many to list. And, of course, there are all of the pets. I never forget the pets and their stories; each one confirms the value of our mission. As BISSELL Pet Foundation grows, so does my commitment. We will never turn our backs when there is a way to help. This year, our impact has grown in ways that I would never have imagined in the beginning. BISSELL Pet Foundation collaborates with experts in animal welfare and partners with some of the most dedicated people you will ever meet. Together, we are finding ways to say yes when others have said no. We are saving more lives than ever with our Empty the Shelters events and spay/neuter grants, and have added new lifesaving initiatives with our Transport Program, Healing Heartworm grants, and much more. I hope you will take the time to read about our recent work inside these pages. BISSELL Pet Foundation has come so far in ten years, but we are just hitting our stride and have the programs in place to save more pets with your support. Ten years is a milestone, but one thing has not changed. Wonderful cats and dogs continue to get left behind in our nation’s shelters and they deserve a second chance. You are their hope. Please help us give them that chance. “This is what we do at BPF. We save lives. We help shelters and the people who are Until every pet has a home, making a difference for the animals in their All photos used in this report are pets from shelters and rescues. community. Transport: A Lifeline for Second Chances Transporting Pets to Safety Across the Country This past year, BPF hit the road in more ways than one as we expanded our transport program By transporting adoptable pets from overcrowded shelters—mainly in the South—to rescue from ground efforts to include air transports. Utilizing chartered cargo planes, we arrange partners with adopters seeking pets, the pets find homes, and lives are saved. BPF has flights for homeless pets to shelter and rescue partners waiting to find them loving homes. created a critical network to support shelters that previously had nowhere else to turn. Outbound Outbound Adding air transport allowed us to move more pets longer distances and faster, making & Inbound cross-country trips in a few hours instead of a few days, which is less stressful for the dogs and cats on the move. So far this year, 4,767 pets were transported through our Flight Inbound collaborative efforts to both relieve overcrowded shelters and aid our emergency disaster Transport response.
