Bideford College Part of the Launceston College Multi Academy Trust Principal’s Welcome by Mrs Lyndsey Kane It is an absolute privilege to welcome you to the Bideford College Inaugural Sports Presentation Evening 2018. This is an evening where we celebrate the sporting prowess of the magnificent young people who attend Bideford College. An evening where we are able to get to recognise sporting excellence in all its many forms. Where we celebrate: hard work, teamwork, determination, pride and skill – showing that when you put your mind to something, and commit dedicated hours – all can triumph! This is also an evening of celebration for the many parents, coaches and carers, who devote hours to support and enable our young people to attend practices, clubs, events and competitions across the length and breadth of the county and for some – the country and even the world! Students have been nominated from all year groups, as we look to celebrate future potential as well as actual achieved sporting victory. We will be celebrating not only the achievements of Bideford College sports teams and individuals – proud to be representing Bideford College, but also those who are highly successful out of College – in many different sporting fields. The attitudes and aptitudes required for sporting success are identical to those required for academic success. Determination, resilience, effort, risk-taking, to be the very best you can possibly be, are attributes clearly demonstrated by students this evening – and also by the students who attend Bideford College on a daily basis. I am very proud to be the Principal of Bideford College – particularly when it gives me another opportunity to celebrate what each and every one of the nominees is able to achieve. The accomplishments recognised this evening are a small part of the bigger picture in which every young person has the opportunity and aspiration to be whatever it is they dream to be. I hope that you have a truly enjoyable evening and that the students are justly proud of all they have accomplished.

The game was played at Bideford Rugby Club and after normal time it was a draw, so the team had to dig deep in extra time to become our first 15 a-side winners in several years with a score line of 31-12. The team also finished runners up in the 10 a-side competition and travelled to Exeter to play the best schools in the county, where they had good wins against Exmouth and Tavistock and their cup win earned them a 15 a-side county semi-final which they narrowly lost to Exmouth. In 7 a-side they won all of their group games but went out in the semi-final to West Buckland. In the league, they won all of their games including a 50-0 win against Chumleigh despite playing 3 players short! The team has a core of very strong, talented and experienced players but has also seen several new players emerge this year. Year 9 Boys’ Football Team The team that does not know how to lose! North Devon Champions back in Year 7 and now most recently in Year 9, only narrowly missing out in the final in Year 8.
