BETWEEN THE BOOKENDS WINTER 2020/2021 YOUR QUARTERLY GUIDE TO PROGRAMS AT THE HURON PUBLIC LIBRARY Learn more about the Library’s digital collection on page 10. Visit huronlibrary.org to find the Library’s current hours and updates to safety regulations and services.
MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR Warm winter wishes to all. Welcome to the new ways to visit the Library! From Online Storytimes LIVE on Facebook to a variety of book clubs on Zoom video chat, we are doing our best to offer a medley of virtual programs for all ages. Please check out our new virtual program listings in this issue of Between the Bookends. When the Library is open in a limited phase, we understand that you might not be comfortable entering the building. If this is the case, there is a wide assortment of digital materials available 24/7, accessible with your CLEVNET library card through the Libby or OverDrive apps. Can’t find what you are looking for in OverDrive? Give Hoopla a try! Hoopla is a digital media service that allows you to borrow movies, music, audiobooks, ebooks, graphic novels, and TV shows to enjoy on your computer, tablet, phone, or even your TV! Please call or message the Library for more information about virtual programs or digital media platforms. As a result of the Library receiving $25,000 in Coronavirus Relief Grant funding, we have been able to make a number of improvements to the building to help ensure your health and safety. These improvements include drinking fountains with water bottle filling stations, installation of Needlepoint Bipolar Ionization units in the Library air handlers, new touchless paper towel dispensers in all Library restrooms, and touchless hand sanitizer dispensers now located throughout the building. We hope you stop in soon, and that you feel safer doing so. Keep reading, watching, and learning! Kindest regards, Vikki Morrow-Ritchie Library Director HPL HIGHLIGHTS Understanding COVID-19 TBD on Zoom Registration required. The name of this fine establishment was Ed-Mar. In 1961, on the diner’s 10th anniversary, they served a hamburger for 25¢ an a cup of coffee for 7¢. Do you know why this diner was named Ed-Mar?
