BET TEMPLATE COVID RISK ASSESSMENT 22 February 2022 FOR EACH SCHOOL TO ALLOCATE ROLE; DATE FOR ACTION AND MONITORING COMPLETION: THE KEY TO EFFECTIVE RISK MANAGEMENT IS IMPLEMENTATION THROUGH INDIVIDUAL SCHOOLS WITH SUPPORT OF DoG and Trust H&S Lead: BET as an employer has duties under health and safety law to all employees and volunteers, and to ensure the health and safety of those who access its services or who may come into contact with it. It alone is responsible in law for securing the health and safety of its staff, volunteers, students and those who come into contact with it from all known or unknown likely risks, including those that arise as England continues to move towards living with Covid-19 and the virus itself transitions towards becoming endemic over the next few years. It complies with the HSE requirements here: https://www.hse.gov.uk/coronavirus/roadmap-further-guidance.htm This Risk Assessment has been updated to take into account the change from statutory guidance to public health recommendations as mandated by HM Government: Covid-19 Response, Living with Covid -191 dated 21 February 2022 in the following areas: recommendations to self-isolate if positive with Covid- 19 or its symptoms; recommendations to continue test until 1 April 2022;; recommendations from DfE Operational Guidance to Schools 21 February 2022 to continue to implement physical distance or if not possible to wear face coverings when mixing with people you do not normally see as well as maintaining cleanliness, hand and respiratory hygiene and responding immediately to any change. It also takes into account DfE Guidance for schools 2- however further amendments are anticipated this week to some of these DfE documents although unlikely to impact on this risk assessment substantively. Throughout the pandemic since March 2020, BET’s highest priority has been the safety of its whole staff and student bodies, the communities at which its schools are the heart of, and the families of these key stakeholder groups. BET recognises that it remains the case that for some staff, volunteers, students and families the risks of Covid-19 remain much higher and more severe than for other groups regardless of vaccination status and the wider availability of treatments and medication. BET also recognises that all Year 11 and 13 students will be required to sit public examinations in Summer 2022, and that further widespread disruption to these cohorts or the availability of staff teaching them arising from uncontrolled outbreaks of Covid-19 infection is more likely than not to have a negative impact on their outcomes and potential future pathways. An outbreak of any infectious illness impacting the examination itself may be considered a special circumstance, but not the period before this. There is a supplementary risk assessment for the Boarding provision at Steyning Grammar School. The controls in this risk assessment may be stepped up without prior consultation as required. All BET Schools continue to work closely with the UK Health Security Agency and local public health teams.
