Talk about the story with another person. What can you see? What is happening? What was your favourite part? Would you like to live on the International Space Station?
Week commencing 8th February 2021 - Reading with your child will enable them to increase their communication and comprehension skills. Choose a favourite book to read; try to sound out some key sounds and words. - Practice your pencil control. Here is a link to Twinkl containing lots of useful pencil control sheets. https://www.twinkl.co.uk/search. You could make this easier by tracing vertical and horizontal lines in mark making trays using rice, cornflour, icing sugar, hot chocolate or any other dry foods you have! You could make this harder by tracing key words relating to the topic or having a go at writing them yourself. You could make this more challenging by tracing the key word cards below then trying to write them yourself. Remember you can always practice your handwriting on the internet. Week commencing 8th February 2021 - Beech class are also working on our comprehension skills. Answer questions about the book verbally or written down (e.g. How do astronauts travel to the International Space Station?). You could make this easier by finding pictures to answer the questions. You could make this harder by creating a short summary of the book or retelling the story to another person using your own words and the commenting chart above.

You could make this harder by writing down or saying the names of the objects you find. Week commencing 8th February 2021 - Practice making and identifying groups of 1 and lots. If an adult makes groups, can you correctly match the symbols to the groups? You could make this harder by making 2 groups of objects and identifying which group has more and less. Count the objects to check you are right. Try using different objects in your groups. Can you correctly identify which has more and less? If you are confident identifying which groups have more or less, make 5 groups of objects and identify which group has the most and least objects. What is the difference between each group? - Practice putting an object in and on and under container when asked. You could make this harder by describing where another person has placed the object. If you are confident placing objects in, on and under, complete the fast and slow worksheet below.

Week commencing 8th February 2021 Afternoon Work After lunch, we practice yoga. Afternoon lessons are completed once per week. Below are some activities for each subject. You can choose which 2 subjects to do each day. Science – This term, Beech class are looking at rocks, Earth and space. - Watch the video from Dr Binocs about volcanoes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAmqsMQG3RM - Use the volcano we made last week to create the eruption! Below is a list of things you will need, and a method. Use the symbols to discuss what happened to the volcano. You could make this harder by predicting what you think will happen and writing it on the prediction sheet. For the eruption, you will need: • 10 ml of dish soap • 100 ml of cold water • 400 ml of white vinegar • Food colouring • Baking soda slurry (fill a cup about ½ with baking soda, then fill the rest of the way with water) Method: Please do this outside, as it will make some mess! • Combine the vinegar, water, dish soap and 2 drops of food colouring into the bottle inside your volcano • Use a spoon to mix the baking soda slurry until it is all a liquid. • Eruption time! … Pour the baking soda slurry into the soda bottle quickly and step back!

Include the 4 parts: land, sea, space and sky. You can either cut out and colour the pictures to stick on your Earth, or draw your own!

Think of your favourite thing about yourself, write it or draw a picture in the love heart below. Look at the people around you, what is your favourite thing about them? What is their favourite thing about you?

If you are feeling confident, either use the maze picture below or draw your own and move a car/counter around the maze. Can you give somebody else directions using the symbols forwards/backwards/turn/go/stop/left/right? See if they can get out, or if they get stuck!
Week commencing 8th February 2021 Art – This term, we have been made art which looks like space and the solar system. - Make a window decoration of some of the planets. You can choose any 3 planets. Use either pieces of thin paper, tissue paper or acetate, or clingfilm and paint. Don’t forget to take pictures of your beautiful decorations in your window!
Week commencing 8th February 2021 Music – We are exploring dance this term. - Find your favourite songs on YouTube and get dancing! You could make your own dance routine and show / teach others. Create a dance group together and have lots of fun! - Make instruments using different objects in your house (pans and wooden spoons etc.) Make your own music! - I have recorded videos in the home learning link at the top of the document which include some dancing games and routines. Life Skills – Use this opportunity to learn all about cooking, cleaning up and doing your fastenings. You could try helping with a meal but chopping, mixing and spooning food onto plates. You could also spend some time learning how to fasten your zips, buttons and do up your shoe laces. Have a fantastic week and I can’t wait to see what you get up to! Beech Class team
