Basketball New Zealand welcomes everyone to this national championship. This is the
pinnacle basketball event in New Zealand for this age group.
As the numbers playing basketball have grown massively so has the depth of talent and
intensity of competition – you are sure to see all this on display. These players are our future
Tall Blacks – keep an eye out for what lies ahead.
These national opportunities don’t come along very often so make sure you have a great
time, make new friends, reconnect with others and enjoy the competition. Basketball is a
truly global sport, its getting bigger and better in New Zealand every year so enjoy being part
of it.
To everyone - players, coaches, managers, officials, volunteers, parents and other supporters
- thank you for your participation, commitment, passion and contribution to this great game.

Welcome to Hawkes Bay for the 2021 edition of the Under 23 Men’s National Championship.
We hope you have a great time in our great region.
We look forward to watching you wear your association colors with pride, competing hard
and leaving it all out on the court. This tournament presents a great opportunity and
pathway into the National Basketball League and further honors in this great sport.
Thank you to all coaches, managers and team volunteers who have given countless hours of
their time in order to get the teams to this tournament and who continue to give incredible
service to our game.
A special mention to the Napier City Council and Pettigrew Green Arena, without your
support there would be no tournament.
We look forward to following your progress through this tournament and into the future and
most importantly we hope you enjoy your time here.

Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand
Sports Chaplaincy New Zealand (SCNZ) is pleased to announce that
Basketball New Zealand (BBNZ) has signed a Memorandum of
Understanding with SCNZ, ushering in a formal partnership that will see
SCNZ increasingly committed to the provision of sports chaplains to
help support the mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing of athletes
and staff across BBNZ organisations in New Zealand.
SCNZ already provides pastoral care and wellbeing support through the
placement of accredited voluntary sports chaplains with a number of
basketball teams and clubs throughout the country, as well
as providing emergency pastoral care and traumatic incident support
when required. The MoU shows the value that BBNZ places on the
value of holistically caring for athletes and administrators, and over the
last 10 years SCNZ has developed a strong reputation of providing
quality people on-the-ground to deliver such support. Inquiries about
sports chaplaincy and the placement of a chaplain within the NZ
basketball community can be made through the SCNZ website.
