Auxiliary In Action February 2021 Marilyn Van Iderstine, Editor COMING EVENTS President’s Message February 7 Aquarius Valentine Chocolate Sale 2020 has been a difficult year for the Auxiliary proba- bly the worst in our 72-year history. Fund raising by our Groups and the restrictions on the operations of the Superfluity shop and the Gift shop have been a challenge. We know our Groups are struggling to hold some type of meeting and plan fund raising events. Our Gift shop which was closed last March 15/20 re- mains closed and we have had no indication as to when operations will resume. The Superfluity shop reopened last May 24 with limit hours of operation, limited staff and volunteers. We are grateful to our Manager Sandy for her due diligence in putting the Public Health requirements and Worksafe BC regulations in place at the shop so we could commence operations and re- main open. Donations are by appointment only and delivery is restricted from 9AM until noon Tue. – Sat. We are also thankful to our Communication Team of Marilyn and Jenn Van Executive Iderstine, they are constantly researching fund raising ideas that can be President: Lynne Quigley held on line via our website. Groups Treasurer’s reports are due in March – please see notice in this
Newsletter. Groups planning fund raising events need to share the details of their event with the Executive and ensure the information is shared with Marilyn and Jenn so it can be posted on our website/Facebook. We have created a format for all advertising material electronic or hard copy (posters) that must include our logo, colours and the Auxiliary’s full name for all fund-raising events. The Auxiliary Board has been meeting monthly (except Dec) via various formats. Thank you to Jenn Walker Mgr. Vol Resources and Marilyn for setting up electronic and or Skype meetings. We are hopeful that our new communications system in the office will be operational by the end of February. This conversion process has been on-going since last July and there has been much frustration over the whole process. Once we are opera- tional, we will have new email addresses and a new phone number that goes directly to the office not through the hospital switchboard. All the updated information will be given to the membership once the change is made. I hope that all our members are staying healthy, safe and looking forward to the time when we can hold meetings once again and return to normal operations. Lynne Quigley Membership Renewal Soon it will be time to renew your Membership in the Peace Arch Hospital Auxiliary Society. Group Treasurers’ Reports Group Treasurer’s Reports are due in the office by March 31. ( Our fiscal Year End.) Mickie will email the form to each Group Treasurer at the beginning of March. Those Groups that have a bank account and have excess funds in their account, (over $200.00) must turn over these funds to the Auxiliary (office) by March 15 so they can be deposited in the bank for Year end. We are required to report all our income to the CRA and that includes monies that have been raised over the past year. If you have not held any fund raisers and do not have excess funds that must be shown on the Group Treasurer’s Report. Sunset Group needs to provide a report but do not have to turn over funds as they use their funds to support Oceanside’s Rec therapist’s programs. Thank You On behalf of the PAH-MHSUS team, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the PAH Auxiliary Society for the generous donation of $200. With the donation money we were able to organize crafting activities, games (the much loved Bingo with some fabulous prizes!), snack times, and the unit favorite pizza dinners! Thankfully we were also able to carry on the tradition of personalized gift bags for the patients on Christmas day. Dear Peace Arch Auxiliary Membership On behalf of the patients and staff of Arbutus Foundation Lodge please accept our heartfelt thank you for the 3 lovely Spa/Beauty Baskets. Having these items available adds to the pleasure of the bathing experience. Plus offers choices for patients to make on their bath day. One patient said “how lovely and soft her hair felt” and was trilled to have some extra body. It was truly a generous gift for the holiday season that will last for months. Wishing everyone a safe and healthy New Year. Christmas Gifts for Lodge 3: Each gift was so thoughtful and beautifully wrapped. I only wish it was your group that was here to give them out. Susan and I were so fortunate to see the resident’s happy smiles when we brought the gifts into their rooms. Each gift was needed as well as appreciated (especially the chocolate!) On behalf of all the staff on Lodge 3 we thank you! Hope to see our volunteers back in 2021. Oceanside: Wow thank you Sunset Ladies for taking out to share the specific projects you do for us such as hand crafted items and bake sale. All 14 of you ladies make a huge difference in the wellbeing of the patients of Oceanside. A lot of the funds go towards giving simple pleasures to the patients such as having ice cream and other desert. I thank you for your hearts to get creative and raise money for us. Your love for the patients behind the scenes makes a huge difference. You are such a special group and we feel so blessed to have your support and kindness.
