Grants for 2 01 8 Artist Projects ABOUT ARTIST TRUST Artist Trust is a not-for-profit organization whose sole mission is to support and encourage individual artists working in all disciplines in order to enrich community life throughout Washington State. It has invested over $10 million in Washington State artists since its founding in 1986. Visit www.artisttrust.org to learn more. ABOUT GRANTS FOR ARTIST PROJECTS Artist Trust’s Grants for Artist Projects (GAP) Awards are project-based grants of $1,500 open to Washington State artists of any discipline. GAP Awards provide support for artist projects, including the development, completion, or presentation of new work. Funding may be used for artist fees, materials, equipment, space rental, travel for research, documentation, professional development opportunities, marketing & promotion, and many other needs related to your project. In 2018, Artist Trust (AT) will award 61 GAP Awards. In addition to funding, up to 4 Media or Performance artists will be awarded an evening to show their work at The Neptune Theatre in Seattle, WA as part of the Seattle Theater Group Nights at the Neptune summer series. Artists of color, rural artists, and artists working in emerging fields and heritage arts, such as social practice artists, interdisciplinary artists, traditional artists, and culture bearers, are strongly en- couraged to apply. See Tips & Hints (page 4) for support with your application. WHO IS ELIGIBLE The 2018 GAP Awards are open to artists and artist teams residing in Wash- ington State working in all disciplines. Application Process HOW TO APPLY Find the 2018 GAP application online at Submittable: https://artisttrust. submittable.com/submit (application live on May 21, 2018). MATERIALS TO SUBMIT: Discipline Statement—50 words; Artist biography—150 words; Project description—350 words; Project budget. Use 2018 GAP Budget form accessible at goo.gl/AUMEzx; Artist résumé—no more than 5 pages; Nights at the Neptune statement (interested Media and Performing applicants only) — A statement detailing how the proposed project relates to race and social justice, and how the Nights at the Neptune opportunity would be used to further the project—250 words; Work samples. See detailed work sample guidelines on page 5. GRANTS FOR ARTIST PROJECTS SUPPORT OPPORTUNITIES Applying for grants can be hard, and we want to help you. Here are ways you can get support from our staff as you work on your application: Office Hours: one-on-one consultations with our staff, provided in-person or over the phone, on May 17 (Tacoma), May 29 (phone only), June 1 (Seattle), June 6 (Spokane), & June 12 (Seattle). Make an appointment at artisttrust.org Preliminary Application Review: submit a draft application through Submittable by June 4, 2018 and request preliminary review. Our staff will review your application and provide detailed feedback by June 15, 2018. The application is then opened for editing and must be resubmitted by the final deadline. INDIVIDUAL ARTIST VERSUS ARTIST TEAM Applications made in the name of collectives, companies, bands, large groups, organizations, or ensembles will not be accepted. A team of two or more artists may apply as a team if they can demonstrate a documented history of creating and presenting work as a team for at least three consecutive years. Artists applying as a team must contact AT to verify eligibility. If eligible, one lead person will submit the application.
