Dartmoor National Park Wild, open moorlands and deep river valleys, with a rich history and rare wildlife, Dartmoor is a unique place. It’s a protected landscape and is here for everyone to enjoy, but it’s fragile and needs to be cared for. Dartmoor has a rich heritage waiting to be discovered, from Bronze Age to Medieval through to the present day. The habitats and landscapes are some of the most inspirational for poets, authors, flmmakers and artists. Dartmoor is home to an abundance of rare and distinctive wildlife, an important reserve for some very rare plants and animals, more than half of Britain’s population of globally threatened species are on Dartmoor. These include the Greater Horseshoe Bat, Blue Ground Beetle, Bog Hoverfy and Flax-leaved St John’s-wort. Dartmoor also has nationally important populations of Dormouse, Cirl Bunting, High Brown Fritillary, Pearl-bordered Fritillary, Marsh Fritillary, Freshwater Shrimp, Deptford Pink wildfowers and of course the otter – a globally threatened Dave Southern and protected species. Trail maps will be available to help with navigation and competitions will be included. At the end of the summer ‘otter-spotters’ as well as art collectors and individuals, will have the opportunity to give We need you! their favourite Otter a new home when they are auctioned to raise funds for Donate for Dartmoor. We need amazing artists to transform each Otter and cub ‘canvas’ so it can be seen by thousands of people following the Moor Otter arts trail. We are looking for designs from any artist, designer or crafter. You can be as imaginative as you want, use any medium you choose – traditional or new.
