How can we make the most of this crisis? Rupert Ross President Whether we like it or not, most business owners are now in enforced lock down and we may have more time on our hands than usual. I have my own list of DIY projects, but I think there are better ways we can use our time. You have probably heard the story of Sir Isaac Newton, when Cambridge was closed for the first time in its history due to the plague. It is said he went home, sat in his garden, saw the apple drop and came up with his theory around gravity. He also used his down time to thrash out optics and calculus. What apples might drop for you during this season? Many of us as business owners are so busy cutting down trees, we seldom pause to sharpen our tools or look around the forest. How are your tools, are you still in the right forest? The PBA has a list of online learning that is available to increase your tool kit. Much of it is free. Perhaps we could come out of lock down with some fresh skills and talents. Information Kiosk Before we all went into lock-down you may have noticed the gorgeous changes to our electronic kiosk in the town square. We now have the kiosk wrapped – on one side is a Tui sitting in a Kowhai tree and the other is a close up of one of Pukekohe’s beautiful Cherry Blossom Trees. The photographs were taken by Harry Janssen Photography and Design and was printed and applied by Sign Max Pukekohe. This wrap was to beautify the kiosk and hopefully make it more noticeable. 2

This fun after-hours service allows Penny and Tineke to focus on you and your dream piece of jewellery in a more private setting. Kendyl brought along a couple of rings that she would like to 'up- cycle' and showed the ladies some ideas that she liked. After discussing ideas, taking measurements and getting a feel for what Kendyl was after, Penny and Tineke beautifully designed a few options using their CAD software. All jewellery is designed and manufactured on-site in their Pukekohe store. If you would like to know more about Harwood Goldsmiths' 'Wine & Design' nights, give the ladies a call on 09-239 2502 or visit them at 50 Edinburgh Street. Police Report “Stop ringing police to dob people in who are not yet self-isolating.” That's the message from authorities after 111 has come under "significant pressure" as the result of a larger than usual number of calls, many of which weren't emergencies. Supt Trappitt said people with concerns about those not self-isolating should email NHCCselfisolation@ health.govt.nz or complete the 105 online form found at www.police.govt.nz/105support During the lockdown there will be an increased police presence on the streets. Officers will be focussed on educating the public about the new rules, but won't rule out enforcement action if gatherings are occurring or there is disorder at essential businesses.
