Big Night With Elmer Guerri Date: Mondays, Apr il 5 & 12, 2021 Time: 10 AM - 12 PM Place: Zoom link will be sent to Individuals registered Cost: $6 (Zoom only) Last year at this time OLLI was scheduled to offer Big Night the class. Because of restrictions this time last year we had to cancel the class. We did offer Big Night again in August but many of you were not up and running with Zoom yet, so we are offering it again as a fresh start to what we hope will be a much better summer. Join Elmer as he discusses Big Night the book and movie and explains how they are both written in part by Joseph Tropiano, but that the book was written after the screenplay. This story is about two Italian immigrant brothers, Primo and Secondo, who in the 1950s came to a small New Jersey seaside town to open an Italian restaurant, the fulfillment of their American Dream. Through a series of comical gyrations and confrontations with competitor restaurateur Pascal, the brothers attempt to make their restaurant a success. A contrived scheme of trickery and falsehoods results in an unexpected climax to the story that can be characterized by the Italian saying, “You can only be betrayed by those you trust.” The class will be treated to a story involving romance, mystery, humor, colorful language and, of course, “mangia, mangia, mangia.” The movie Big Night will be shared during class the second session of class.
