AMBASSADOR’S MESSAGE Dear friends, As we approach the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, let me extend my best wishes for your health, happiness and prosperity. As you are well aware, Biden Administration’s Covid vaccination drive is in full swing. I would urge you all to get yourself vaccinated at the earliest so that we can collectively overcome this pandemic soon. You are also aware that the Covid situation in our part of the world is getting worse. In this regard, the Government of Pakistan has taken a number of measures to control the third wave of pandemic, which include reduction in the inbound air traffic to Pakistan by 80%. In addition to the requirement of provision of negative RT- PCR test conducted 72 hours prior to departure, the air passengers would also be required to undertake Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) upon arrival in Pakistan. Positive cases would then be transferred to quarantine facilities. In prevailing circumstances, you should travel to Pakistan only if it is absolutely essential. The Embassy continued its outreach efforts during the month of April. The Embassy, in collaboration with the Science Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted its first ever virtual ‘Startup Summit’. The Foreign Minister inaugurated the Summit, which provided an important platform for engagement between the U.S.-based Pakistani diaspora and the relevant stakeholders in Pakistan including Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), Higher Education Commission (HEC), National Incubation Center (NIC), State Bank of Pakistan, and National Science and Technology Park. I held a virtual conversation with ‘PAKLAUNCH’, a virtual platform launched by young Pakistani-Americans for connecting Pakistani talent from around the globe. The conversation focused on identifying economic and technological opportunities in the Pakistan-US relationship. I also traveled to Florida to attend APPNA Spring meeting where I conveyed our deep gratitude and appreciation to APPNA physicians for their outstanding contributions in fighting COVID both in the US and for their generous contributions for Covid relief in Pakistan. In line with the Government’s high priority given to the promotion of tourism sector, the Embassy held the third episode of its Webcast series on showcasing tourism potential of Pakistan. This virtual event, themed “Confluence of History, Culture & Cuisine: Lahore – A Virtual Tour”, introduced the splendors of Lahore to audience in the US. Unfortunately, due to restrictions on public gatherings, we could not hold our traditional Inter-faith Iftar this Ramadan, nor could we hold Easter celebrations at the Embassy. These activities and other cultural programs will resume once the Covid situation improves. However, the Embassy arranged a virtual Interfaith Prayer with leaders of all faiths. I also participated in the virtual interfaith iftar prayer hosted by Pakistani-American Community from the West Coast. In the end, I wish to extend my best wishes to all of you for a very happy Eid, which is just round the corner. At the same time, let me also reiterate the importance of celebrating Eid in a safe and responsible manner by adhering to all the precautionary measures advised by CDC. 3 Copyright © 2021 Embassy of Pakistan, All Rights Reserved.
