Schedule of the Building Act lists the types of building work that do not require a building consent. Such works tend

to be small-scale, being within certain dimensional or volume limitations. Building works exempt from building consent
requirements must still comply with the New Zealand Building Code.
A copy of Schedule   1  is able to be viewed on our website and at the Civic         Centre in Liardet Street and Inglewood,
Waitara or Bell Block library and service centres. It is very specific on what does not require consent If you cannot                         -

point to the exact section that relates to your projects, then it is very likely that you require a building consent.
Even if your building project does not need a building consent, there may be other approvals you do need. Please talk
toa Council officer about planning and other approvals,
