Stud News Orlando Park Stud Orlando Park Equestrian Stud was very excited to be greeting this beautiful wee colt Riley (Right) at 1.15am of November 3rd. Riley is by GAB's Whata Kracka out of our thoroughbred mare Mag- gie (Orlando Park Something Special). We are completely in love with him and cannot wait to see what he grows into. Kracka is standing at stud with us this breeding season, if you are looking to have your own spotted baby, don’t miss out! Lovely stallion who passes on his spunk to his offspring. Wow has he changed since being born all bay, now has shown he’s an Appaloosa. His full sister Maid in China (by This Kids All Style out of Waimarama Kachina) is totally different from him taller and a Bay roan. Waimarama Kachina aka China had a black few spot colt (Below) last season by Midnights Silver Saphaire. He’s sweet natured. We’re going to keep him as future colt as his colour genetics will be good for the Stud. Arawood Lace is due to foal in Dec to Shi- zoni Kalua Chief. Classic Jewel had a beaut filly foal by Justa Lil PromisQs and is growing fast. (Left) Wiamarama Kachina is due to foal January 2019 to Midnights Silver Saphire.

I have 3 Adult Registrations in process, awaiting payment or docu- mentation. Of the 4 seriously old rego’s we inherited I have managed to contact two, one of whom would like to pro- ceed with registering their horse. I very much appreciate how efficient Sally, as Registrar, is. This allows people to receive their documentation in a timely fashion, Thank You Sally. There does appear to be continued misunderstanding about the photos required for progeny and adult registration. Hopefully this will be of some help… Progeny Registration requires: Two photo’s of foal with dam, one of each side, clearly showing head and leg markings. Maximum size 110mmx70mm Adult Registration requires: Four photographs of the horse, TWO of each side, clearly showing head and leg markings. Maximum size 110mmx70mm Take a good quality photo of each side of the horse. Where Two of each side is required, please provide 2 iden- tical copies of each side photo of the horse. Photos of foal with dam must clearly show this, NOT to appear as a foal with another horse in the background or nearby. In each photo you MUST be able to clearly see the full markings on all four legs. Have the horse standing on a clear hard surface NOT in long grass. The photo including the face markings of the horse must be a full side view and have the horses head turned looking at the camera – Showing head marking is not a separate photo. The subject(s) of the photos must not take up more than 11cm x 7cm as this is the space available on the cur- rent registration cards, the photos have to be trimmed down to fit this space. Registration forms are available to download from the website. Please do your best to provide COMPLETED appli- cation forms, incomplete applications only cause delays. If you require any assistance please ask. 6

Survey Results An invite was sent out via email recently for current members to participate in a survey and while not eve- ryone completed it the results are as follows; 1. Appaloosa News format. Do you like the new format? 85% said YES, 15% said NO. 2. Appaloosa News as an emailed file or a Posted copy? 54% said Emailed, 46% said Posted. The same was asked on the membership form and we received these results: 33% for Emailed, 36% for Post- ed, 31% didn’t give an indication. 3. Showing Points published in the Appaloosa News? 67% said YES, 33% said NO. 4. Non-Studbook Registry renaming it the Performance Registry? 70% said YES, 30% said NO. 5. Non–Studbook Registration more accessible to Appaloosa type horses? 82% said YES, 18% said NO 6. Registration Certificates changed to A4 single sheet format? 30% said YES to A4, 50% said YES to A4 laminated, 20% prefer the current cards. 7. Q. What other benefits would you like the Association offer? Answers... Spend more time promoting the breed. Emailing magazine would be very cost effective. I would love a bigger registration certificate. Becoming more involved with trainers and having availability to show overseas. Clinics, teaching showing, more info on what breeds are approved outcrosses, how to get correct info on TB, Arab, QH etc. All-breeds show as fund raiser, more promotion, Equidays, demonstrations, Pa- louse registry, get together with appaloosas members or anyone who has an Appy, mid year bbq. Hall of fame for our worthy horses. I'm not sure that having access to a stud book or entry to a national show really is a benefit I enjoy worth paying the membership fee. I have chosen to be part of another riding group for this season be- cause of that... the dressage group I'm part of has a smaller fee and more riding benefits... which to a riding member are a bit more meaningful to me. Hall of fame type set up to recognize performance horses and studs. More training. Having Non-Studbook horses competing at National Show, we worked with the Paint horses so why not bring in more Appys, maybe even Sportaloosa? ChA moved that those specified rates be minuted in this meeting under General Business, Seconded MG, all in favor. Confirmed: Auditor Kirsten Dixon has been engaged with a capped fee of $2000 including GST and disbursements. All other Reports taken as read. Matters arising from Portfolio reports; Discussion on Annual Stallion Classification. To be revisited next Council Meeting. Protocol for issuing Approved Stallion Badges to be drafted by MG to present at next meeting. DNA Reports discussed. WRF to have another Training Weekend in October 2019. Stud Liaison Portfolio discussion. Magazine discussion. MG will continue with Mag for now. It was noted that previous council moved to 4 issues per year. GENERAL BUSINESS. Stud Advertising Agreement Rates; (As per Matters Arising) at the meeting of the 25th August it was discussed and agreed by all present to amend the Stud advertising rates as follows: Standard Rate $80, with upgrade options to more premium positions in the publication as follows; Inside front cover +$75, Back Cover or Inside back cover +$100, Front Cover (conditions apply) +$200. Patron: General consensus that we don’t need one however Constitution Rule 22 read. “The Association shall, at its Annual General Meeting, appoint or reappoint any person to the position of Patron for any term and on any conditions as the Association sees fit.” As this did not take place at previous AGM’s it is moved to the Agenda for the next AGM. Survey Results: Taken as Read, includes the combined input from Survey Monkey and Membership. The information contained will be a useful tool for near future decision making. Summary results to go in mag. Points: A discussion around the publication of points was held, while the survey results showed 67% in favour council was concerned that it could dis-incentivise members who are new to the show circuit. Maybe we get some training under way first then re-visit this. MOVED that showing Points be not included for publication in the Magazine at this time. NW/JA Passed Non-Studbook Name and Rules discussion to be postponed to Next Council Meeting. Possible changes to format of registration cards moved to AGM. Change of Name Application: This process has no supporting ruling anywhere in meeting minutes or the Policy Digest. The Breed Handbook under Rule 15.2 is quite clear, however Rule 16 appears to contradict this. Research found that there are no minutes supporting the addition of rule 16 therefore it should be removed. All reference to a Change of Name application is to be removed from the website. Office Use Panel: Discussion on best business practice. MOVED that an Office Use panel be included on all forms. MG/NW Passed Online Studbook upgrades: Discussion on Quote and timeframes. MOVED That the Upgrades as quoted be held until the start of the New Financial Year (1st January 2019) when council will decide the order of upgrades to execute and when in accordance with the allowable budg- et. When the upgrade is completed to an appropriate level that the Access Studbook database will be retired. ChA/JR Passed MG to contact Rosewood Design to advise. Secretary is the keeper of the Studbook in accordance with the constitution. 11
Council Meeting 27 October 2018 cont... Stallion registered to Show Not Breed: Discussion on a particular breeding stallion (named) being recorded in the Access Studbook Database as being registered to “Show Not Breed”. This stallion is being used for breeding. Original forms viewed from the Archive. There is information contained on the forms which is inconsistent and council agreed it would be best for the owner to re-submit a stallion classification application and any other information that may be required to satisfy the requirements for classification. Secretary to scan and send copies of original forms to MG. MG to prepare a letter to owner and return to Council for approval prior to sending. Roll on effect of this anomaly was discussed and based on presedent set, where progeny are registered prior to stallion classification those progeny may have a prefix added to their registration number and subsequent generations as appropriate. Public Liability Insurance: ESNZ quote $500pa for Affiliated Membership plus and extra $200pa for access to their Public Liability Insurance. Quote from Crombie Lockwood Insurers for approximately $300pa. JR to get a quote from FMG. For discussion next meeting. Financial Report After some discussion it was felt that maybe the extent of the reporting in each issue was more than really neces- sary so it was opted that we provide a summary Profit and Loss report for the financial year to date to keep you generally appraised of our financial status. Should you be interested in more in-depth financial information you are welcome to request this from the office — it’s your association after all. Auditor Introductory Visit Thursday 15th Nov 2018, 10.30am As part of the engagement of our Auditor Kirsten Dixon of Dixon and Co Chartered Accountants, of Taupo, Kirsten took it upon herself to, at no additional costs, come and visit the Office in person to get a proper “feel” of our set up, how we are do things, and gain an understanding of the scope and limitations that have to be dealt with from the administrative perspective of the Assn. Kirsten was very thorough and understand- ing, and clearly has a compassion for organi- zations like ours. In our discussions it was clear that she is not only interested in what has gone before, and ensuring the financial administration is carried out in a manner that serves the members and the Assn, but she is also actively interested in the Assn's long term sustainability. She asked a number of questions around the financial statements that were presented at the last AGM, our current practices and pro- cedures and the systems we are utilizing. She also asked for us to send her some addi- tional supporting information about the Assn so she could be fully prepared for the audit. Overall she appeared to be satisfied with how things are being managed. It was a great opportunity to confirm we were on the right track in terms of meeting our fi- nancial compliance as an incorporated soci- ety. We have tentatively made a date of 4th Feb 2019 for the Audit. This will give us plenty of lead time to the AGM. We also discussed audit frequency, and while she agreed that 5 yearly audits were acceptable, she felt that our current consti- tutional rule that excluded independent an- nual reviews exposed the Assn to considera- ble risk from a financial perspective and strongly encouraged that we should get that changed to ensure the integrity of the Assn. 13
