Apartment Community Monthly Newsletter Nov-Dec Vol. 3 Happy holidays everyone. As we move towards the end of the semester, I hope to find you all doing well and ready for a well needed break!! COVID-19 Laramie Updates Current Events Laramie County will begin a mask mandate on Monday, the health department there announced Friday. The mandate will require people to wear face coverings in certain public settings. It comes in response to a surge in coronavirus cases that has taxed the health care system in Wyoming’s largest county and home of the state’s capital. As of Friday, Cheyenne Regional Medical Center in Cheyenne was treating 29 coronavirus patients, with seven in intensive care and five on life support, the announcement states. One person had died in the past 24 hours. The mandate, which will run through the month of November, was issued by Laramie County Health Officer Dr. Stan Hartman based on a recommendation by the Cheyenne- Laramie County Health Department. It was also approved by State Health Officer Dr. Alexia Harrist. Wyoming reported a record daily number of new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, as Laramie County surpassed Albany County the same day to become the county with the second-highest number of active cases in the state. The new daily high comes as Laramie County’s case numbers have more than doubled in the last two weeks. On Tuesday, the county was reporting 1,271 active cases. Two weeks ago, that number was at 572. COVID19 Vaccine?? Pfizer designs a 90% effective vaccine. It seems like forever since we have been on “quarantine” due to the latest Covid-19 pandemic. Hopefully not for long, one of the leading American pharmaceutical companies Pfizer, partner with BioNTech have engineered a vaccine that has proven to be 90% effective against Sars-CoV-2. Sparing the gory sciency details, the vaccine is supposed to help prevent covid-19 in people with no prior Sars- CoV-2 infection. Their study enrolled 43,538 participants with 42% of them being from diverse backgrounds. They found no serious safety concerns. The U.S Food and Drug Administration is currently waiting for the vaccine’s study to reach the “safety” milestone. It is expressed that we might be looking at Vaccines being on the market as close to as the third week of November!! Pfizer and BioNTech have projected to produce about 50 million vaccine doses in 2020 and about 1.3 billion doses in 2021. Ref: Pfizer.com

In the confines of Elsie’s apartment, Miranda travels back and forth to the North Pole gleaning information about the nature of the universe, loss and ever-lasting presence. As Miranda visits Otto in the past, Elsie is struggling to maintain the equilibrium she is barely holding to since her sister’s death. Trying to keep her crushing anxiety at bay, Elsie tries to give Miranda remembrance and closure. Tis the season for GINGERBREAD HOUSES! If you have ever built a gingerbread house, you know the struggle is real when it comes to trying to keep it all together with the “frosting glue”. These suckers always seem to collapse withing seconds or look like your kindergarten art projects. The last thing that you need this year is a collapsing gingerbread house, so we have done some extensive research (aka scoured TicTok) and found the solution to your problem. TikToker Anita (@Tastyentertaining) builds her gingerbread houses by bonding the structure with burnt sugar! Anita said, "It's how my mother did it when I was little, and it's how I have done it ever since. I was certainly aware that most people use royal icing, and I know of the frustration that comes with that, so I have converted a lot of people to this method." Frosting is fine in theory, but it takes time to harden. It also requires a whole process of propping the house up, applying frosting, getting frosting EVERYWHERE, trying to hold the house in place to let frosting harden, things falling, choice words being used…. You get it. But fear not, burnt sugar works like a gem! Your house will not perish under the weight of your thoughtfully placed candy! Simply pour white sugar into a pan and heat it up! Then dip the edges of your gingerbread house into the melted sugar and place it where you want it. If you do decide to attempt this hack, please be aware that burnt sugar is HOT and can cause some damage if you get it on your skin, so please precede with caution. May your holidays be filled with structurally sound gingerbread houses and slightly less frustration.
