REGULATIONS 1. Member’s Annual Subscription Fee $30.00 entitling Member & Partner, their Children under 15 Years free admission to show, with Vehicle. Single Member’s Annual Subscription Fee $15.00 entitles Member Free Admission to Show, with Vehicle. 2. Non-Members competing in Competitive events must make separate entries in their own name and pay the necessary entry fees. 3. Entries must be accompanied by the proper fees. No person will be allowed to exhibit unless the Entry Fee’s or Member’s Subscription for the current year shall have been previously paid. This regulation will be strictly enforced. 4. Members exhibiting may obtain necessary passes for attendants on application to the Secretary after having made their entries. ENTRY FEES PAID BY NON-MEMBERS DO NOT CARRY THE RIGHT OF FREE ADMISSION TO THE GROUNDS EITHER FOR EXHIBITORS OR ATTENDANTS. 5. All entries must be the bona fide property of the exhibitor. 6. Ticket for each exhibit, properly numbered, will be delivered by the Secretary to Exhibitor on or before the day of the show, which must be affixed to the Exhibit. No Exhibit will be admitted or judged unless it has such a ticket so attached. 7. The committee accepts no responsibility for loss or damage to exhibits sent by post. 8. Care will be taken of all exhibits, but the committee accepts no responsibility. 9. The age of horses will be taken from 1st August, and that of cattle from 1st March except Beef Cattle, which will be taken from date of birth. 10. All exhibits, with the exception of Horses & Cattle, must be on the ground and in their allotted places by 9.30am and remain there until 5.30pm on the day of the Show. 11. Exhibits of machinery in motion must be securely fenced or otherwise rendered secure from the possibility of injury to the public. 12. The judge may reduce the amount of any prize, or withhold it altogether when the Exhibits are of inferior quality. 13. In the event of the Judge awarding Equal First Prize, No Second Prize will be awarded. 14. No Exhibitor (unless in the case of an owner driving, riding or leading his Exhibit) will be allowed near his Exhibit while being judged, except with the permission of Stewards. 15. Protests must be made in writing and lodged with the Secretary within 1 hour of the completion of judging, accompanied by a deposit of $20 which may be forfeited should the Tribunal consider the protest frivolous or vexatious. The Tribunal’s decision in all cases shall be final. 16. 50c per entry has been added to All Entries for Horse, Cattle, Sheep, & Dog Classes for Liability of Animal’s Insurance. The Liability of Animal’s Policy is extended to all owners or people responsible for Animals wishing to participate in Show Events. The Policy gives cover from the time you enter the Show Grounds until you leave, but DOES NOT include transit cover. 17. Any person guilty of offensive conduct or undue interference with any Show Official, in person or via social media shall be liable to any or all the penalties mentioned in Regulation 19. 19. Contravention of any of the Regulations or conditions published on the Prize List shall render the persons contravening to (1) disqualification for any period; (2) forfeiture of all prize money or any portion thereof; (3) is a Member, to expulsion from the Society according to the pleasure of the committee. 20. All unregistered vehicles are subject to VicRoads rules of the road. Unregistered vehicles must be moved by a registered truck or trailer to the safety zone. 5

Committee will not be held responsible for any accidents occurring on the day. ● The attention of competitors in Horse and Pony events is directed to the EA. Rules relating to cruelty and general misbehaviour. Any breaches of these rules will be reported to EA immediately. All riders must wear AS/NZS 3838 approved helmets at all times when mounted. ● Competitors to sign waiver form prior to competing. STALLIONS ONLY PERMITTED IN THE BREED RING ● Novice not to have won a first Prize at an agricultural show/Affiliated EFA Show or gymkhana. ● Newcomer not to have competed under saddle prior to 31st May 2017. ● A horse that wins Champion is then ineligible to compete in the same class in the other ring (Rings 1 and 2). ● Show hunter - Horses and ponies must either compete in Show hunter OR Open Classes – they may not compete in both. OFF THE TRACK SERIES – Qualifier Regulations ● Open to all thoroughbreds, unraced and raced 4 years and over, over 14.2 hands who are registered with RISA, Registrations will be checked. ● Racing name to be used where appropriate. When entering if name is different to racing name, or if never raced please provide. ● Racing name, Brands, colour and markings, Microchip Number, Life Number Registration Certificate Number, Dam and Sire, Date horse retired. ● Qualifying classes will be judged ridden. ● Once a qualifier is won, the horse cannot compete in other qualifiers. ● Rider to be 14 years and over on the day of the qualifying show. ● To be judged as a good example of an Off the Track Thoroughbred (rather than riding horse/hunter types) with the following being taken into consideration: o Thoroughbred qualities. o Conformation. o Manners, paces and performances. o Injuries caused through racing such as blemishes are allowed. ● Judges decision is final in Qualifies and Final. ● Qualifier Prizes: Sash, $50 prize cheque sent out once qualification has been verified by Racing Victoria (Gift pack collected at State Final). 6
ALABOR HERO SERIES - Qualifier Regulations ● Open to all purebred freeze branded Standardbreds registered with Harness Racing Australia. Raced or unraced. Registrations will be verified. ● Registered/Racing name o be used where available. Freeze brand number must be provided. ● Qualifying Shows must be VAS Ltd affiliated. ● Horse or Exhibitor do not need to be registered with any other Association or Breed Society other than Harness Racing Australia to be eligible to compete. ● Qualifying Classes will be judged ridden. ● Once a Qualifier has been won, the horse is ineligible to compete in another Qualifier. ● A Qualifying winners gain automatic entry into the HERO Series Final to be held at the VAS Ltd Saddle Horse Championship. ● Riders to be aged 12 years and over on the day of the Qualifying Show. ● To be judged as a good example of a Standardbred rather than a riding horse/hunter type with the following being taken in to consideration: o Standard bred qualities o Confirmation o Manners, Paces and performance o Racing related injuries and/or blemishes are permitted. The Judges Decision is final in the Qualifiers and Final. Qualifier Prizes: Sash, $50 Prize Cheque sent out once qualification has been verified, and HERO Gift Pack (Gift Pack collected at State Final). PONY CLUB CLASSES ● All competitors to be financial member of a Pony Club affiliated with P.C.A.V. Pony Club attendance cards shown. ● All riders are to wear full Pony Club uniform including medical armbands and must pass a gear check prior to entering the ring. ● TOPSY RING – Riders competing in rings 1,2 are ineligible to compete in this ring. Riding jackets optional, but not taken into consideration. Approved hard hats and boots must be worn. May be led. VAS Carrot Cake Competition The following recipe MUST be used. The cake is to be baked in a 20cm round tin and to be uniced. Ingredients: 2 tsp salt 375g Plain Flour 345g castor sugar 2 tsp Baking Powder 375 ml vegetable oil 1 ½ tsp Bicarb Soda 4 eggs 2 tsp ground cinnamon 3 medium carrots, grated (350 grams) ¼ tsp ground nutmeg 220g tin crushed pineapple, drained ½ tsp allspice 180g pecan nuts crushed Method: 1. Preheat the oven to 180C (160C fan), grease a 20cm round cake tin and line with baking paper. 2. Sift the dry ingredients together into a bowl. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and oil, then add to the dry ingredients. Mix well then add the carrots, crushed pineapple and pecans. Mix to form a smooth batter and pour into the cake tin. 3. Bake for approximately 90 – 100 mins. 4. Remove from the oven and cool for 10 minutes in the tin on a wire rack. Remove from tin and cool on the wire rack. 29
42. VAS Rich Fruit Cake Competition ● The following recipe is compulsory for all entrants. ● Cake must be cooked in a 20cm square, straight sided, square cornered tin. Ingredients: 250g Sultanas 250g Chopped Raisins 250g Currants 250g Soft Brown Sugar 250g Plain Flour 250g Butter 125g Chopped Mixed Peel 90g Chopped Blanched Almonds 90g Chopped Red Glace Cherries 60g Self Raising Flour 1/3 Cup Sherry or Brandy 4 Large Eggs ½ tspn Vanilla Essence ¼ tspn Grated Nutmeg ½ tspn Ground Cloves ½ tspn Ground Ginger ½ teaspoon Almond Essence ½ tspn Lemon Essence or finely Grated Lemon Rind Method: Mix together all the fruits and nuts and sprinkle with sherry or brandy. Cover and leave for at least 1 hour, but preferably overnight. Sift together the flours and spices. Cream together the butter and sugar with essences. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then alternately add the fruit and flour mixtures. Mix thoroughly. The mixture should be stiff enough to support a wooden spoon. Place the mixture into a prepared tin and bake in a slow oven for approximately 3 ½ - 4 hours. Allow to cool in the tin. NOTE: To ensure uniformity and depending upon the size it is suggested the raisins be snipped into 2 or 3 pieces, cherries into 4 – 6 pieces and almonds crosswise into 3 – 4 pieces. 1. VAS Boiled Fruit Cake (Junior) Competition ● Bake in 20cm round cake tin Ingredients: 375 g Mixed Fruit ½ cup Sherry 1 cup Plain Flour ½ cup Water 1 cup Self-Raising Flour 2 tablespoons Marmalade 125g Butter 1 teaspoon Mixed Spice ¾ cup Brown Sugar ½ teaspoon Bicarbonate of Soda 2 Eggs lightly beaten ¼ teaspoon Salt Method: Place the mixed fruit, sugar, spice, water and butter in a large saucepan and bring to the boil. Simmer gently for 3 minutes, then remove and allow cooling. Add the sherry, eggs and marmalade, mixing well. Fold in the sifted dry ingredients then place in a greased and lined 20cm round cake tin. Bake in a moderately slow oven for 1.5 hours, or until cooked when tested. 2. VAS Carrot and Date Muffins Competition Ingredients: 2 1/2 Cups Self-Rising Flour 1/3 Cup Pitted Dates 1 Cup Brown Sugar (firmly packed) 2 Eggs, lightly beaten 1 Cup Coarsely Grated Carrot 1 tablespoon Orange Marmalade 1 Cup Reduced Fat Milk 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon 1 Cup Canola Oil 1/4 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg 3/4 Cup Orange Juice Icing Sugar for dusting Method: 1. Heat oven to 190oC (moderately hot). 2. Line and spray 12 hole muffin pan with large paper cases. Classic White Muffin Cases Size (35mm height x 90mm wide x 50mm base). 3. Sift dry ingredients into a large bowl; stir in dates and carrots. Then add the combined marmalade, oil, eggs, juice and milk. Mix until just combined. 4. Spoon mixture evenly into prepared pan holes. 5. Cook for 20 minutes, (to test muffins are cooked inserted cake skewer. If it comes out clean the muffins are ready). 6. Stand muffins in pan for 5 minutes then turn out onto a wire rack to cool. 7. Show entries: 4 muffins per plate. 32
