March 2021 Aldinga Payinthi College Update Last Month the Aldinga Bay Resident’s Association (ABRA) hosted a public meeting on the progress of the Aldinga Payinthi College. Many locals packed into the Aldinga Library (in line with COVID19 restrictions) or braved technical difficulties online to hear from Lee Sansom from Department for Education Lee Sansom, Inaugural Principal- Alison Colbeck and a representative from the Architects. The speakers took us through the design process, enrollments information and carparking. Locals also raised various concerns, making the meeting very insightful for all who attended. Video footage from the meeting will be available on our facebook page soon! Enrollment Information Enrollments for the 2022 school year will open soon, closing on Friday 2nd of July 2021. The 2022 limits for each year level will be: Preschool: 40 children R-2: 52 per year level 3-6: 30 per year level 7 & 8: 192 per year level Inclusive Preschool program: 4 children Supported Learning Centre: 60 students Pedestrian Lights installed As part of the increased traffic associated with the new school, a roundabout and pedestrian traffic lights have been installed (the first of any type of ‘red-yellow-green’ light in Aldinga). Ms Steggall, an Independent Member of Parliament representing former Liberal Prime Minister’s electorate of Warringah which is based to the North of Sydney in New South Wales. The amendments by Ms Steggall did not receive the support of the Government and the Bill passed the Lower House unamended by 41-36 votes. During February, the Liberal Party picked dairy farmer Amy Williams as their candidate for Mawson, edging out two other contenders including Deputy Mayor and former Kaurna candidate Simon McMahon. Coastal Views contacted the Liberal party offering to do a profile on the newly selected candidate, however the party was not able to meet our deadlines. We will endeavor to include the profile in our next edition. We will be offering ALL Mawson candidates this opportunity and will be republishing all profiles in early 2022. ABRA will also hold a public meeting with all Mawson Candidates given equal opportunity to speak, as we do at each election. March 2021 Aldinga History by Mark Staniforth former Butcher’s Shop on Flour Mill Road In 1867 Lewis Fidge sold this block of land (part of section 401) to James Waters, a laborer of Aldinga. The land is located at what would later become the corner of Flour Mill Road and Adey Road. Waters sold the land to William Mills, farmer of Willunga, in 1870, then it passed to Mary Ann Moore and finally to Francis Hart, a butcher of Aldinga, in 1882. Alfred Bird purchased what was probably already an operating butcher’s shop on this block of land in Aug 1888 from his stepfather Photo: Plan of the land at the corner of Flour Francis Hart. The property was owned by Alfred Mill Road and Adey Road from the original Bird from 1888 until his death in 1934 and the Certificate of Title (CT197/32). building was a butcher’s shop for more than 50 years.
