e-VEHICLE FRIENDLY HIGHWAY • Union Minister of Heavy Industries Inaugurates Solar Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at Karnal Lake Resort, Karnal • The Delhi-Chandigarh Highway has become the first e-vehicle friendly highway in the country, with a network of Solar-based Electric Vehicle Charging stations (SEVCs) set up by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) • The EV charging station at Karnal lake resort, is strategically located at the midpoint of Delhi-Chandigarh highway, and is equipped to cater to all types of E- cars plying currently in the country. • The establishment of similar EV chargers at regular intervals of 25-30 kms on the highway will allay range-anxiety among Electric Vehicle users and bolster their confidence for inter-city travel. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

• The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) lays out for the first time a comprehensive set of rules around data collection, processing and protection, that were previously governed by piecemeal legislation. • Under the new rules passed by China’s top legislative body, state and private entities handling personal information will be required to reduce data collection and obtain user consent. • It will also prevent companies from setting different prices for the same service based on clients’ shopping history. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

e-SHRAM portal • Minister for Labour and Employment formally launched e-Shram portal, a database of unorganised sector workers, and handed it over to the States/UTs. • The government aims to register 38 crore unorganised workers, such as construction labourers, migrant workforce, street vendors and domestic workers, among others. • The workers will be issued an e-Shram card containing a 12 digit unique number • A national toll free number — 14434 — will also be launched to assist and address the queries of workers seeking registration on the portal. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

SMOG TOWER • The tower uses a ‘downdraft air cleaning system’. • Polluted air is sucked in at a height of 24 m, and filtered air is released at the bottom of the tower, at a height of about 10 m from the ground. • The structure is 24 m high, about as much as an 8-storey building — an 18- metre concrete tower, topped by a 6-metre-high canopy. At its base are 40 fans, 10 on each side. • Each fan can discharge 25 cubic metres per second of air, adding up to 1,000 cubic metres per second for the tower as a whole. Ease 3.0 • Public Sector Banks have reported healthy profits and have accelerated on technology- driven reforms. These banks have reported a profit of Rs. 31,817 crore in FY21 as compared to a loss of Rs. 26,016 crore in FY20. This is the first year when PSBs have reported profit after five years of losses. • Total gross non-performing assets stood at Rs. 6.16 lakh crore as of March 2021 - a reduction of Rs. 62,000 crore from March 2020 levels. • Credit@click was a flagship initiative under EASE 3.0. Nearly 4.4 lakh customers have been benefitted through such instantaneous and simplified credit access. HINDUSTAN-228 • On August 15, the public sector aircraft manufacturing company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) carried out a successful ground run and low speed taxi trials of a commercial aircraft – Hindustan-228 – for ‘Type Certification’ by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). • The type certification by the DGCA will enable HAL to get an international certification for the aircraft. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

AK-203 ASSAULT RIFLES-RUSSIA • The development happens in spite of the joint venture of both the countries to manufacture 7.5 lakh AK-203 rifles in India. • AK-203 assault rifle is considered to be the latest and most advanced version of the AK-47 rifle. • It is a 7.62×39mm variant from the AK-100 rifle family (one that offers the AK-74M system, in multiple cartridges and lengths). • This variant is an advanced version of AK-47 and its magazine can hold 30 bullets. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

• In October 2016, India and Russia signed an Inter- Governmental Agreement (IGA) for four Krivak or Talwar class stealth frigates — two to be procured directly from Russia • And two to be built by Goa Shipyard Ltd. FLOATING SOLAR PV PROJECT • The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC ) Ltd, has commissioned the largest floating solar PV project (of 25MW) in India on the reservoir of its Simhadri thermal station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh • The floating solar installation which has a unique anchoring design is spread over 75 acres in an RW reservoir. • This floating solar project has the potential to generate electricity from more than 1 lakh solar PV modules. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

Bharat series • In order to facilitate seamless transfer of vehicles, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways vide notification dated 26 Aug 2021, has introduced a new registration mark for new vehicles i.e. “Bharat series (BH-series)”. • This vehicle registration facility under “Bharat series (BH-series)” will be available on voluntary basis to Defense personnel, employees of Central Government/ State Government/ Central/ State Public Sector Undertakings and private sector companies/organizations, which have their offices in four or more States/Union territories. • The motor vehicle tax will be levied for two years or in multiple of two. ace current affairs@santhosh sir

Kilauea volcano • The activity is occurring at the summit of Kilauea volcano, an uninhabited area within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big Island. Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP) • Under the agreement, India will start the largest-ever infrastructure project called Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP) in the Maldives. • For the project, India will grant $100 million and a line of credit worth Rs 400 million. • GMCP is the flagship project of President Solih’s presidency and will be an enduring symbol of India-Maldives partnership. • This project will be started to connect business, people and industry. • GMCP will comprise of the construction of a 6.74 km long bridge and causeway link. Both will connect the capital city Male with adjoining islands of Thilagushi, Villingli and Gulhifalhu. ace current affairs@santhosh sir
GREENLAND’S MELTING • for the first time on record, the summit of Greenland received rain and not snow, just as temperatures at the spot went above freezing for the third time in less than ten years. • The event has sparked fear as scientists are pointing to it as evidence that Greenland is warming rapidly. • Greenland, which is the world’s largest island located between the Arctic and Atlantic oceans, has three-quarters of its surface covered with a permanent ice sheet– which is increasingly coming under threat because of climate change. ace current affairs@santhosh sir
