e-VEHICLE FRIENDLY HIGHWAY
•   Union Minister of Heavy Industries Inaugurates Solar Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Station at
    Karnal Lake Resort, Karnal

•    The Delhi-Chandigarh Highway has become the first e-vehicle friendly highway
    in the country, with a network of Solar-based Electric Vehicle Charging stations
    (SEVCs) set up by Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL)

•   The EV charging station at Karnal lake resort, is strategically located at the
    midpoint of Delhi-Chandigarh highway, and is equipped to cater to all types of E-
    cars plying currently in the country.

•   The establishment of similar EV chargers at regular intervals of 25-30 kms on the
    highway will allay range-anxiety among Electric Vehicle users and bolster their
    confidence for inter-city travel.

The Geological Survey of India (GSI)
• The Geological Survey of India (GSI ) was set up in 1851 primarily
  to find coal deposits for the Railways.
• It is the second oldest survey in India after Survey of India
  (founded in 1767).
• Headquarters: Kolkata, West Bengal.
• Geological Survey of India, the 170-year old premier Geological
  Institution under the Ministry of Mines has decided to make
  itself accessible to the masses and make its presence felt
  digitally by launching the GSI Mobile App (Beta Version) and
  upgrading it periodically.

• The Personal Information Protection Law (PIPL) lays out for the first
  time a comprehensive set of rules around data collection,
  processing and protection, that were previously governed by
  piecemeal legislation.

• Under the new rules passed by China’s top legislative body, state
  and private entities handling personal information will be required
  to reduce data collection and obtain user consent.

• It will also prevent companies from setting different prices for the
  same service based on clients’ shopping history.

e-SHRAM portal
• Minister for Labour and Employment formally launched e-Shram
  portal, a database of unorganised sector workers, and handed it over
  to the States/UTs.

• The government aims to register 38 crore unorganised workers, such as
  construction labourers, migrant workforce, street vendors and
  domestic workers, among others.

•   The workers will be issued an e-Shram card containing a 12 digit
    unique number

• A national toll free number — 14434 — will also be launched to assist
  and address the queries of workers seeking registration on the portal.

• The facility at NCCS, Pune has already been notified as CDL on

SMOG TOWER
•   The tower uses a ‘downdraft air cleaning system’.
•   Polluted air is sucked in at a height of 24 m, and filtered air is released at the
    bottom of the tower, at a height of about 10 m from the ground.
•   The structure is 24 m high, about as much as an 8-storey building — an 18-
    metre concrete tower, topped by a 6-metre-high canopy. At its base are 40 fans,
    10 on each side.
•   Each fan can discharge 25 cubic metres per second of air, adding up to 1,000
    cubic metres per second for the tower as a whole. Inside the tower in two
    layers are 5,000 filters. The filters and fans have been imported from the United
    States.

Ease 3.0
•   Public Sector Banks have reported healthy profits and have accelerated on technology-
    driven reforms. These banks have reported a profit of Rs. 31,817 crore in FY21 as
    compared to a loss of Rs. 26,016 crore in FY20. This is the first year when PSBs have
    reported profit after five years of losses.

•   Total gross non-performing assets stood at Rs. 6.16 lakh crore as of March 2021 - a
    reduction of Rs. 62,000 crore from March 2020 levels.

•   Credit@click was a flagship initiative under EASE 3.0. Nearly 4.4 lakh customers have
    been benefitted through such instantaneous and simplified credit access.

    Nearly 72% of financial transactions happening at PSBs is now happening through digital
    channels.

HINDUSTAN-228
• On August 15, the public sector aircraft manufacturing
  company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) carried out a
  successful ground run and low speed taxi trials of a
  commercial aircraft – Hindustan-228 – for ‘Type Certification’
  by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
• The type certification by the DGCA will enable HAL to get an
  international certification for the aircraft.

AK-203 ASSAULT RIFLES-RUSSIA
• The development happens in spite of the joint
  venture of both the countries to manufacture
  7.5 lakh AK-203 rifles in India.
• AK-203 assault rifle is considered to be the
  latest and most advanced version of the AK-47
  rifle.
• It is a 7.62×39mm variant from the AK-100 rifle
  family (one that offers the AK-74M system, in
  multiple cartridges and lengths).
• This variant is an advanced version of AK-47
  and its magazine can hold 30 bullets.

KRIVAK CLASS STEALTH FRIGATE

• In October 2016, India and Russia signed an Inter-
  Governmental Agreement (IGA) for four Krivak or Talwar class
  stealth frigates — two to be procured directly from Russia
• And two to be built by Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL) — after which
  a $1 billion deal was signed for the direct purchase.
• The keel for the first ship to be built at GSL was laid in January
  and for the second ship in June this year.
• Keel laying is a major milestone in shipbuilding symbolises the
  formal commencement of the construction process.

FLOATING SOLAR PV PROJECT
•   The National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC ) Ltd, has commissioned
    the largest floating solar PV project (of 25MW) in India on the reservoir of
    its Simhadri thermal station in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh

•   The floating solar installation which has a unique anchoring design is spread
    over 75 acres in an RW reservoir.

•   This floating solar project has the potential to generate electricity from
    more than 1 lakh solar PV modules.

NTPC is also planning to set up a
                      hydrogen-based micro-grid system on a
                      pilot basis at Simhadri.

                      The 2000MW coal-based Simhadri
                      Station is the first power project to

• Indian Naval Ships Shivalik and Kadmatt arrived at Guam, an
  Island Territory of the USA on August 21, 2021 as part of
  their on-going deployment to nations in South East Asia and
  the Pacific Ocean.
• The two ships are scheduled to participate in the annual
  Exercise MALABAR-21, between navies of Australia, India,
  Japan and the USA.
• Exercise MALABAR-21 will be conducted with USN, JMSDF and
  RAN at sea from 26-29 Aug 21.

• India and the Philippines conducted a naval exercise in the
  South China Sea on August 23, 2021
• Indian Navy had deployed its guided missile destroyer INS
  Ranvijay and guided missile corvette INS Kora

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship Vigraha
•   Indian Coast Guard (ICG) Ship Vigraha, seventh in the series of Offshore
    Patrol Vessels (OPVs), will be commissioned by Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath
    Singh in Chennai on August 28, 2021.

•   The ship will be based in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh and operate on the
    eastern seaboard under the Operational and Administrative Control of the
    Commander, Coast Guard Region (East).

•   The 98-meter OPV, with a complement of 11 officers and 110 sailors, has been
    designed and built indigenously by Larsen & Toubro Ship Building Limited.

Corporate social responsibility
• Companies with a minimum net worth of Rs 500 crore, turnover
  of Rs 1,000 crore, or net profit of Rs 5 crore are required to spend
  at least 2 per cent of their average profit for the previous three
  years on CSR activities every year.
• The ministry has clarified that any CSR expenditure in excess of
  the mandated 2 per cent expenditure can be set off against
  mandatory CSR expenditure in the three subsequent fiscals.

  States of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya,

• Financial provision of Rs 70 crore, under National Ayush
  Mission(NAM) support, is to be provided for establishment of a
  new Ayurvedic College at Dudhnoi in Goalpara, Assam.

• The Ministry of AYUSH has also decided to upgrade the
  Government Ayurvedic College in Guwahati and develop it as a
  Centre of Excellence and a sum of Rs 10 crore as financial grant
  is to be provided in this regard.

LADDU DISTRIBUTION SCHEME
• Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah launched nutritious a
  ‘Laddu Distribution Scheme’ for pregnant women in his
  Parliamentary constituency Gandhinagar.
• Around 7,000 pregnant womenin Gandhinagar area will be
  provided 15 nutritious laddu each, free of cost, till birth of
  their child, through NGOs
• There will be no expenditure by the Government, as the

• Under The Direct Tax Vivad se Vishwas Act 2020 (hereinafter
  referred to as “Vivad se Vishwas Act”), the amount payable by
  the declarant is stated in the table under section 3 of the Vivad se
  Vishwas Act.

• As per the latest notification dated 25th June 2021, the last date
  of payment of the amount (without any additional amount) has
  been notified as 31st August 2021.

• Further the last date for payment of the amount (with additional
  amount) under Vivad se Vishwas Act has been notified as 31st
  October, 2021.

• In order to facilitate seamless transfer of vehicles, the Ministry of
  Road Transport & Highways vide notification dated 26 Aug 2021, has
  introduced a new registration mark for new vehicles i.e. “Bharat series
  (BH-series)”.
• This vehicle registration facility under “Bharat series (BH-series)” will be
  available on voluntary basis to Defense personnel, employees of Central
  Government/ State Government/ Central/ State Public Sector
  Undertakings and private sector companies/organizations, which have
  their offices in four or more States/Union territories.

• The motor vehicle tax will be levied for two years or in multiple of two.

•   Ain Dubai is about 42.5m taller than the London Eye. It will take visitors to the
    height of 250 metres in order for them to enjoy the majestic view of Dubai’s
    picturesque skyline.

•   It can carry up to 1,400 passengers in its 48 capsules, providing views of Dubai
    Marina, Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeirah, and Burj Khalifa
•   It will also comprise of an 80-metre LED screen to create an electronic platform

    Kilauea volcano, an uninhabited area within
    Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on the Big
    Island. This is about 200 miles southeast of

Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP)
•   Under the agreement, India will start the largest-ever infrastructure project
    called Greater Male Connectivity Project (GMCP) in the Maldives.

•   For the project, India will grant $100 million and a line of credit worth Rs 400 million.

•   GMCP is the flagship project of President Solih’s presidency and will be an enduring
    symbol of India-Maldives partnership.

•   This project will be started to connect business, people and industry.

•   GMCP will comprise of the construction of a 6.74 km long bridge and causeway link.
    Both will connect the capital city Male with adjoining islands of Thilagushi, Villingli

GREENLAND’S MELTING
•  for the first time on record, the summit of Greenland received
  rain and not snow, just as temperatures at the spot went above
  freezing for the third time in less than ten years.
• The event has sparked fear as scientists are pointing to it as
  evidence that Greenland is warming rapidly.
• Greenland, which is the world’s largest island located between the
  Arctic and Atlantic oceans, has three-quarters of its surface
  covered with a permanent ice sheet– which is increasingly coming
  under threat because of climate change.
