Activity Celebrating student-centered faculty who are passionate teachers and accomplished scholars. ACADEMIC YEAR 2017-18
Our Vision Western Connecticut State University will be widely recognized as a premier public university with outstanding teachers and scholars who prepare students to contribute to the world in a meaningful way. 1
CONGRATULATIONS Dr. Edwin M. Wong Professor Biological & Environmental Sciences Department 2018 Provost’s Award for Teaching Ed earned a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of Maryland and a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, and developmental biology from Indiana University. Among his former academic positions was a three-year stint as a Foreign Expert teaching (in English) molecular biology to mainland Chinese students at Shandong University. Since joining the faculty of WCSU in 1999, he has been teaching biology for non-majors, general biology, and upper-level molecular genetics as well as exploring teaching technologies. His research involves using molecular techniques to investigate interesting questions, in particular, about environmental microorganisms and invasive species which has benefited the Candlewood Lake communities. His efforts on behalf of the campus community have included longtime service as the advisor for the Biology Club. And on a personal note, this semester every member of his family will be at WCSU—his wife Mona is finishing the MS in Nursing; his son Daniel is a senior majoring in biochemistry; and his daughter Samantha is in her first year in the pre-nursing program. 2
