Continued from Page 1 Abbeyfield House, Greenock wins a UK-wide award The house struck gold at the recent EAC Housing for Older People Awards in Manchester. Abbeyfield House, Greenock was named as the best UK retirement housing scheme Linda Murdoch (Area Supervisor), with under 25 units. Jennie Bond (journalist and television presenter) and Julie Shaw (House Supervisor) A special tea was held at the house on the Esplanade to toast its success, with visits from Abbeyfield Vice-Chair, Nance Smith and Carolynn Malone, Service Manager with Abbeyfield Scotland. Nance said: “This is a celebration for staff, residents, volunteers and neighbours. The Board of Abbeyfield is absolutely delighted about the award and for the staff for all their hard work.” She was also swift to praise House Supervisors Julie Rebecca Mollart (erosh CEO), Linda Murdoch Shaw, who attended the glittering event, and Julie Shaw and colleague Pauline Murray. David Shaw raises money for the Samaritans When Parklea, Lockerbie resident, David Shaw agreed to have his hair cut and beard shaved off, he had been sponsored and chose to raise money for the Samaritans. Frank Ritchie provided the entertainment and both Oliver Mundell (MSP) and David Mundell (Secretary of State for Scotland) visited on the day! Goodbye Julia A farewell was held at Abbeyfield House, Haddington for Julia Baker, who has shown exceptional care and dedication in looking after residents of the house for sixteen years. We will all miss you Julia and wish you, and your new puppy, Flurry, all the best. Welcome to wee Lola Abbeyfield Giffnock's newest four-legged resident, wee Lola has been openly welcomed to the house by residents and staff. I am impressed with the results and having chatted to the residents and the staff I know that they were involved in the project. They tell me they all like how it has turned out!” Karen Barr, Interim Chief Executive of Abbeyfield Scotland said: “It was wonderful to welcome Yvie to help us mark the completion of the interiors project in Turriff. This investment in the house shows our commitment to ensuring that our residents have an environment which is not only practical but homely. We enjoyed Yvie’s company and listening to her glorious voice in a sing song with the residents.” Guid Nychburris Day On 11 June, in celebration of Guid Nychburris Day to be held on 15 June, the Queen of the South, her attendants and cornet visited Dock Park House. Staff complete first aid training Staff from the Coatbridge, Giffnock and Lenzie houses and relief staff from the Bridge of Allan house completed their first aid training recently. Talking Point ‘get together’ Abbeyfield House, Giffnock held a Talking Point 'get together' with Alan Stevenson of the East Renfrewshire Council. A word from the Chief Executive In the midst of the summer, I hope you have all enjoyed some lovely Trip to David weather and activities.
