Departing from Exbury Central Station, the train meanders through the Summer Lane Garden (not accessible by foot) before skirting past the Rock Garden, travelling through the tunnel and then stopping off at Exbury North to refuel. SEPTEMBER Thurs 17 Battle of Britain Memorial £30.00 A new day trip for 2020, we will be visiting the Battle of Britain Memorial. The Battle of Britain Memorial Trust extends a warm welcome to those who wish to show their respects to the heroes of the Battle of Britain by visiting this unique site of pilgrimage. The National Memorial to the Few is a peaceful space, ideal for quiet reflection, atop the famous White Cliffs and offering superb views across the Channel to France. The central statue of a lone pilot is complemented by the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall, two replica aircraft and other items of interest. Also included is The Scramble Experience - it offers an interactive and immersive experience for all ages, giving a taste of what life was like during the Battle of Britain. You will be able to learn about who and what was involved in the Battle of Britainl Dress up as a fighter pilot in the dispersal hut, or use your skills to detect the Luftwaffe aircraft on the radio detection finding radar. The full-size Hurricane cockpit allows visitors to sit in the aircraft, ‘fly’ it to the right height using a realistic joystick and then try to find camouflaged enemy aircraft on a computer simulation. There is plenty to read, watch and listen to and during the visit a five minute film “A day in the life of a fighter pilot” is shown.
