Stronger Together by Dr. Jessica Y. Lee AAPD President Many of us found out that we were stronger than we ever imagined. In 2020, even as we had diverse personal challenges with many losing loved ones, there were also happy moments—marriages and births of new loved ones. We are living through a pandemic but may see the light at the end of tunnel with the distribution of the vaccine. We have had difficult conversations on race and equity which were overdue. We have modified our practices with so many improvements to keep everyone safe. We have struggled through an economic crisis but have managed to keep our offices open. And, we have gotten through all of this—together! If there was ever a theme for 2020 is that we are stronger together. This should carry us through 2021. There is much more that bring us together than divides us. We relied on each other for information, for connection and compas- sion. We persevered. We were resilient. We were hopeful. So, I am optimistic for 2021! I am optimistic that I will see you—my AAPD family—in 2021! While no decision has been made yet on whether a face-to-face annual meeting in Boston will be possible, I am still looking forward to connecting with all you virtually, in person or some sort of hybrid. As we work through some uncertainty about Boston 2021, I remain excited about the meeting! Many of us will recall how quickly we were able to pivot Nashville 2020 to NashVirtual 2020 and while we missed some of the social functions of the meeting, the platform was amazing and we were able to provide world class CE! In some ways the virtual format brought us closer together. I have no doubt that a virtual platform that allows any of us to connect and attend CE courses, whether or not an in-person meeting is possible, will be part of our future. The AAPD Scientific Program Committee, led by Dr Janice Townsend, has created an outstanding line-up of speakers and topics. To highlight a few sessions, there will be updates on Pediatric Medicine, Mindfulness and Wellness, Sedation and Orthodontics! All in one place. There will still be a diverse course selection for you to choose from, which will certainly satisfy a broad range of interests. We have learned a lot this year and found news ways to stay connected, beginning with our town hall events that covered reopening your practices, accessing PPE and mental health, to our podcasts covering everything from advocacy to ethics to OR access. I have heard from many of you about how much you have enjoyed the flexibility of the AAPD CE offerings and the flexibility with the AAPD Education Passport. Through all of this we stayed connected. I have been touched the outpouring of support from our members. You have been there for us and we are here for you. We are stronger together. Whether I see you in Boston in person or on a virtual stage, please know that the AAPD is committed to stand by you through 2021 and beyond. A Message from your President | January PDT 2021 5

AAPD 2021 Update 74th Annual Session • The Hub • May 2021 We are very grateful for the patience of the AAPD membership while we navigate the challenging and uncertain future for AAPD 2021. The AAPD Meetings Department, along with Boston city officials are doing their very best to determine if meeting face-to- face will be possible in May. As we continue to work through these difficult times, we still want you to be excited about what we have in store! Even if we are safely able to host you in Boston in-person, there will be a virtual platform for remote attendees to connect, network, and earn CE no matter where you are in the world. The AAPD Meetings Department has been hard at work since NashVirtual last year, re- searching and vetting various platforms to be sure that we provide our members with the most innovative and immersive virtual meeting around. No matter where you are in the world, whether you’re in-person in Boston, or in the comfort of your home, you will be able to con- nect with one another in the same digital space. We are so excited to bring you The Hub! The Hub will serve as the virtual platform that will host AAPD 2021. Here you will find our Keynote & Opening Ceremony, Scientific Program, Exhibit Hall, networking and more! A little fun fact: Boston was dubbed “The Hub” by author Oliver Wendell Holmes in 1858. Holmes felt that Boston was truly the center of many things happening in the world at that time, so it stuck and the nickname is now used throughout the city. Despite how times have changed over the past year, one thing remains true: the AAPD continues to be a resource for their members, personally and professionally. This is the time to rely on one another and recognize what an outstanding membership we have. AAPD leadership and staff are proud to represent our members and the great work they have done and continue to do during this difficult time. We hope that you will join us for an unforgettable weekend, no matter where you are joining us from! This weekend will be packed with world-renowned speakers, an interactive Exhibit Hall and networking opportunities, plus a few fun surprises along the way. Please take some time to read the following pages to see what education we have in store for you. See you in The Hub! 8 January PDT 2021 | AAPD 2021
