In touch South Bucks Newsletter Spring 2019 A slice of the action The Heights baking team, under the guidance of activity co-ordinators Liz and Sam, pulled off an amazing victory in the Trust’s British Pie Week competition when their Steak and Ale pie won Best Savoury Pie. The award was presented by resident Robert and was picked up by Bernadette Spring is in the air who helped bake the pie. Cherry Garth, Holmer Green In touch | South Bucks Newsletter | Spring 2019 The cherry on top Everyone at Cherry Garth was delighted when their Cherry Pie won Best Sweet Pie at the Trust’s baking competition to celebrate British Pie Week. Home manager Kelly was beside herself when they were announced as the winners at the event. The judging panel included the Trust’s regional Let’s face the music and director Robin Comerford, development chef Jude dance Watts and local landlord from The Bricklayers Arms, Jordan Trumpet. Farnham Common House In touch | South Bucks Newsletter | Spring 2019 Reflections 2019 To celebrate National Poetry Day the Trust St David’s Day fun launched its very own poetry book. St David’s Day was celebrated with food and drink Reflections 2019 has poems written by residents from Wales, including a beer called The Rev James and colleagues across the Trust’s care homes and which was first brewed in 1885. covers a wide range of topics. Lent Rise House, Burnham In touch | South Bucks Newsletter | Spring 2019 Talent show Lent Rise House held their annual talent show with residents and team members all getting involved. Red Nose Day This year there were gallant efforts from everyone, Colleagues, residents and families all came but the overall winner was care worker Alibe together to raise funds for Red Nose Day. (pictured above) who gave a fantastic rendition of the Amy Winehouse song, Valerie. Care worker Sapphire (pictured below) had the brilliant idea for colleagues in the home to wear their pyjamas to work for the day to help raise funds. It was a great success and a fantastic £110 was raised. Well done to everyone who was involved!

Mulberry Court, Chalfont St Peter In touch | South Bucks Newsletter | Spring 2019 Brilliant Bryony Splendid singing Resident Gwen (pictured above) was a key Singer Emily Yarrow (pictured below) wowed member of the panel for the interviews for the residents with a selection of songs from the new activity co-ordinator. Gwen enjoyed posing musicals. questions to see if the candidates would be a good fit for the home. The classic ‘Mambo’ was a real hit amongst the audience! Applicant Bryony was a hit and answered all of Gwen’s questions brilliantly. Welcome to the team Bryony. What’s in the news? Mulberry Court In touch | South Bucks Newsletter | Spring 2019 It’s magic! Everyone enjoyed getting involved in a demonstration of an omiVista Mobii projector. Residents and family members took time to choose the perfect colour combinations to create their masterpieces and discussed their favourite flowers and colours from their own gardens when they lived at home. Barbara (pictured below) had a great time and really enjoyed the activity session. Smoothie operator Eve and Julie (pictured above) had a blast making healthy smoothies as part of Nutrition and Hydration Week. The dynamic duo got stuck in and let their creative juices flow when they decided on the ingredients and flavour combinations. The pair produced some very tasty fruity smoothies for everyone in the home to enjoy.
Sir Aubrey Ward House, Marlow In touch | South Bucks Newsletter | Spring 2019 Flowerland West Wycombe Choir A group of residents thoroughly enjoyed a trip to Julie, daughter of resident Daphne (pictured Flowerland in Bourne End. below), surprised everyone when she revealed she sang with West Wycombe Choir. Everyone enjoyed exploring the garden centre and looking at the wonderful display of flowers, as well She then arranged a special visit from the choir to as the many different fish in their tanks. entertain residents and team members. The Trust’s dog show sCRUFTs was back by popular demand and a number of relatives and Care workers Madelaine and Lynn arranged for colleagues brought in their pets to participate in two mini rabbits to move into the care home, the dog show. much to the delight of everyone. The trophy for Best in Show went to chocolate Residents and members of the team loved labrador Biscuit owned by household assistant, spending time cuddling and stroking the fluffy Sharon. The award was given in honour of former new additions. resident, Sylvia Marshall and it was awarded to Biscuit by Sylvia’s best friend at the home, Angie. Prizes were donated by local pet store Jollyes who gave several treats and a tennis ball for each of our four legged friends.

In all weathers with cold red noses Hula hoop, kerbside, crocodile sea Knitting enthusiasts, craft aficionados, musicians, Street lights come on it’s time for tea schools, colleges and so many more have visited. I personally loved shopping at the vintage and craft fairs held in our homes. We have also had many special invitations from the various town Mayors to join local events, we really are becoming a huge part of our local communities. Spring 2019 In touch | South Bucks Newsletter “Time, ladies and gentlemen!” Every other Sunday at The Heights nursing home assistant manager Jackie (pictured left) opens the Downley Donkey in true ‘Bet Lynch from Corrie’ style and serves up sherry, wine and beer.
