                                              YOUR CHILDREN EVERY MONTH?

Sometimes finding the right books and making the time to read as a family can be hard. That’s where PJ Library
comes in. The Windsor Jewish Community Centre has partnered with the Harold Grinspoon Foundation to bring
PJ Library to Windsor and Essex County and send free Jewish children’s books to families every month.

We know that something magical happens when parents sit down together to read with their children. PJ Library
shares Jewish stories that can help your family talk together about values and traditions that are important to
you. Families with kids ages 6 months through 8 years old with Judaism as part of their lives, are welcome to sign

                   Tu Bi’Shevat
Over 50 children, parents and grandparents made the trip to
The Bloomin’ Gardener for the Jewish National Fund of Windsor’s Tu
  Bi’Shevat on Jan 20th, 2019.
The program started with each child making and decorating
their own handprint to be added to a ‘tree’ on a wall at Congregation
Beth El. Then Erie Wildlife Rescue provided an interactive presentation
showing how to care for injured or abandoned animals found in the
wild. Snacks included items made from all of the seven plant species
  - dates, figs, pomegranates, and more!
Plenty of goodies were brought home by participating guests
  – including bird feeders that the children made from bagels. Erie
Wildlife was happy to take the remaining bird seed back to their
rescued birds. Each child and many of the adults also planted their
own olive tree (provided by our gracious hosts), bringing them home
  to watch them grow.

  CIJA Community Consultation in Windsor
As part of determining how to best be the advocacy voice of Jewish people across
Canada, the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs (“CIJA”) holds consultations in Jewish
communities across the country. CIJA defines its missions as “Improving the quality of
Jewish life in Canada by advancing the public policy interests of Canada’s organized
  Jewish community.”

Steve McDonald, Director of Policy and Strategic Communication at CIJA came
to Windsor this past January, to facilitate a consultation with members of the Windsor
Jewish Community. As always, the evening was informative and engaging for those who
were able to attend. Steve was also able to bring much information back to CIJA about
the priorities of the Windsor Jewish community, as expressed by those in attendance. We
learned that our priorities are very similar to those of many Jewish communities across the Jay Katz, Noah Tepperman, Josh Berkovitz, Steve

  Student Social Justice Forum
On February 21st, two students from nearly every grade school in
Windsor-Essex participated in the 15th annual Student Forum for Social
Justice, held in the Odette Business School on the University of Windsor
Campus. The event was organized and sponsored by the Holocaust
Education Committee of the Windsor Jewish Community Centre, Unifor
Local 200, The Faculty of Education at the University of Windsor,
the Greater Essex Country District School Board, the Windsor- Essex
Catholic School Board and the Conseil Scolaire Catholique Providence.

During this one-day event, students participated in five different
workshops: Lessons Learned from the Holocaust, Reducing the Stigma
of Mental Health, The Right to Water, Poverty and Homelessness, and
Experiential Learning through the Arts. The event was once again a big
success, which left students prepared and excited to go back to their own
to school to educate their classmates about their experience at the Student
  Forum.
