News & Views - Passover 2019 - 11 Tu Bi’Shevat Over 50 children, parents and grandparents made the trip to The Bloomin’ Gardener for the Jewish National Fund of Windsor’s Tu Bi’Shevat on Jan 20th, 2019. The program started with each child making and decorating their own handprint to be added to a ‘tree’ on a wall at Congregation Beth El. Then Erie Wildlife Rescue provided an interactive presentation showing how to care for injured or abandoned animals found in the wild. Snacks included items made from all of the seven plant species - dates, figs, pomegranates, and more! Plenty of goodies were brought home by participating guests – including bird feeders that the children made from bagels. Erie Wildlife was happy to take the remaining bird seed back to their rescued birds. Each child and many of the adults also planted their own olive tree (provided by our gracious hosts), bringing them home to watch them grow. CIJA defines its missions as “Improving the quality of Jewish life in Canada by advancing the public policy interests of Canada’s organized Jewish community.” Steve McDonald, Director of Policy and Strategic Communication at CIJA came to Windsor this past January, to facilitate a consultation with members of the Windsor Jewish Community.
