Jesuit Pupil Profile Virtues: Spring 2: Compassionate & Loving Gospel Reflection (Luke 9:28-36) On Sunday we hear how Jesus took Peter, John, and James up a hill to pray. While he was praying, his face changed its appearance, and his clothes became dazzling white. Suddenly two men were there talking with him. They were Moses and Elijah, who appeared in heavenly glory and talked with Jesus about the way in which he would soon fulfil God's purpose by dying in Jerusalem. Peter and his companions were sound asleep, but they woke up and saw Jesus’ and the two men who were standing with him. As the men were leaving Jesus, Peter said to him, “Master, how good it is that we are here! We will make three tents, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, a cloud appeared and covered them with its shadow; and the disciples were afraid as the cloud came over them. A voice said from the cloud, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen – listen to him!” Through our prayers this Lent we can hope for wonderful changes too. We can ask God to help us to act differently, to make the world a fairer place, and to treat others as we would wish to be treated. Prayer for the week God of light, you sent your Son Jesus to show us how to live. Help us to make a change in our world, so that all people may live free from war, poverty and hunger. Amen. The invitation at the Transfiguration is to listen to Jesus and to follow him, laying down our lives as a gift of love for one another.” Pope Francis Star Pupil Awards Attendance w/e 11th March Christian & Jaskirat % (Target 95.5%) N Class Class attendance percentages since the RM Hareem 4th September 2020 RS Nimrat Gold = Highest 1A Green = Above 96% Red = Below 96% 1M Jay 2I Isabella RM 92.2% 2P Joao RS 95.2% 3C Aleksander 1A 91.9% 3S Bhavagnya 1M 92.9% 4B Ahmed 2I 95.9% 4W David 2P 96.9% 5C Mithushan 3C 92.0% 5S Siham 3S 93.0% 6B Charlie 4B 93.0% 6R Romar 4W 97.9% 5C 96.2% It is important that we always have the most up-to-date 5S 93.0% contact details you can provide. House Points Totals NEWMAN 1563 MANNING 985 VAUGHAN 1260 WISEMAN 1428 SCHOOL NEWS Saint of the Week: Saint John of God 1495–1550 There are many “Johns” who are saints: Saint John the Baptist, Saint John the Evangelist, Saint John of the Cross, Saint John Fisher, etc. This St John has the title “of God.” It is a simple and direct title. Saint John of God did not have the advantage of an excellent education. But what his mind lacked his heart supplied. He left his Portuguese home as a child in the care of a priest and went to neighbouring Spain. From there he lived a life as a farmer, shepherd, adventurer, and then a soldier. John somehow raised enough money to start a small hospital and thus began, in an orderly and professional manner, to care for the sick, feed the hungry, clothe the naked, convert the sinner, and shelter the homeless and orphans. He had no equal in giving of himself to his patients, and his reputation for holiness spread across Spain. He gave away his cloaks so often that his Bishop had a habit made, ordered John to put it on, and told him not to give it away. John’s total dedication to the poor and sick drew many followers. They emulated his generosity, and soon an order was born. Saint John of God, help us to follow your example of service to the poor through gift of self. You did not just ask for charitable donations but for charity itself. You did not ask others to do what you did not do yourself. Rights Respecting / Global Action – Miss Ionita’s Weekly Information SSPP is preparing an event, just in time for our Lent donations towards CAFOD which this year are going to the Ukrainian Refugee Crisis. If you would like to help, you can make extra donations to: Nova Ukraine works closely with Ukraine-based organisations and is currently delivering supply packages including diapers, baby food, hospital supplies, and dry foods for a children’s orphanage in Donetsk. CARE International is responding to the crisis by working through partners on the ground to provide food, hygiene kits, psychosocial support services, access to water, and access to cash. Choose Love’s Ukraine appeal is supporting projects that provide vital aid and services to those still in and fleeing the country, including emergency medical care, food, shelter, clothes, legal support, support for the LGBTQIA+ community and mental health support. Ukrainian Red Cross has been working on the ground for more than 100 years, providing life-saving aid and services during times of conflict and disasters. They organise educational services on a regular basis throughout the country as well as providing sanitary materials and coordinating blood donations. Voices of Children provides no-co st psychological support to Ukrainian children who are impacted by armed conflicts like this one. Wars can cause long term psychological trauma for children; that’s why it’s important to support and protect them. UNICEF Ukraine is repairing schools damaged by the bombings and providing an emergency response to children affected by the conflict. More than 510,000 children have been affected through this conflict, protecting them means protecting their families, communities and their future. UN Women is committed to supporting Ukraine’s people, especially its women and girls, at this time of greatest need. They are working closely with partners on the ground to support Ukrainian women and girls who have been internally displaced or have fled the country. Thank you for your continuous generosity.
West Ham Corner Recommended Read The night finally came, a European game at a European powerhouse. Year 3 To hear ‘Bubbles’ being sang by the amazing away support sent chills up the spines of the fans watching from home. West Ham held their own, in fact in the first half you could argue they more than held their own after they fashioned a few chances, including a really clear headed chance for Vlasic. The second half felt a little more like we needed to dig in, and Sevilla did manage to make a breakthrough and volley in the only goal of the game. After that goal, West Ham showed the resilience we were so familiar with at the start of the season; they even had another chance which was spurned by Lanzini. We will welcome Sevilla to the London Stadium next Thursday with all still to play for. This weekend sees the return to Premier League action against Aston Villa – hopefully there will not be any hangover from the European exertions. Author Book Match JK Rowling + Harry Potter Series + Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them + The Tales of Beedle The Bard + The Christmas Pig Author Visit – Maz Evans We were treated to a fantastic day when Maz Evans visited SSPP this week. She held KS2 captivated during her assembly where they heard all about the characters and plots of her wonderful stories. The day was filled with question and answer sessions from year 4 to year 6. They asked really probing questions, helping to gain a deep insight into her writing process and books. The day was rounded off with a really well attended book signing, with books for sale from The Loughton Bookshop.
Reception – Life Cycles Continuing our topic of ‘Lifecycles’, the children in RS have been so excited this week. We had a special delivery on Tuesday, where five eggs magically appeared in a cage in the classroom. After a few days, we had beautiful, but cheeky ducklings hatch out of their shells! We have made sure not to disturb them too much, but we have really enjoyed watching them grow. Reception – Phonics Everyday after lunchtime, the children in Reception take part in their daily phonics session. These sessions normally last twenty minutes. The children recap or are introduced to new sounds each week. This week in RS, we were learning the ‘ue’ sound, as in blue and statue. Can you read the words that the children had to sound out and write on their whiteboards from this week’s lesson? Some of the words were particularly tricky, such as queue and duet!

We have been challenged to a cross-school battle by Farnham Green which will take place on the week beginning the 28th March. Use the next couple of weeks to really hone your skills, so that we can (in the best possible Catholic School spirit) wipe the floor with them! Online Safety As part of our continued drive to offer advice and support for all aspects of digital/online safety, we are going to showcase weekly information from the National Online Safety resources which can be found at: https://nationalonlinesafety.com/ WhatsApp is the world’s most popular messaging service, with around two billion users exchanging texts, photos, videos and documents, as well as making voice and video calls. Its end-to-end encryption means messages can only be viewed by the sender and any recipients: not even WhatsApp can read them. Updates to its privacy policy in 2021 (involving sharing data with parent company Facebook) caused millions to leave the app, but the new policy was widely misinterpreted – it only related to WhatsApp’s business features, not to personal messages. In the guide, you'll find tips on a number of potential risks such as scams, strangers and location sharing.

Google Classrooms – Help Sheet What is Google Classroom? Google Classroom is a class-organisation platform that incorporates Google’s core G Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) and other Google products so students can access everything they need for a class, including homework assignments, group projects and files. Google Classroom is designed for organisation and collaboration. We will be using Google Classroom to assign homework as well as within school to improve children’s digital literacy. How do you log into a Google Classroom? Your child has been given a username (email address) and a password, these should be stuck inside their communication or homework books. You have also received an email and/or text with the information. To access it you can search ‘Google login’, once you have logged in using the username and password you have access to email, classroom and Google drive (a storage system that uses the Google version of Word, Excel and PowerPoint). When you log in look for the ‘waffle’ (the nine dots). You will then see these options and you select ‘Classroom’ Each class is private to the people the teacher has personally invited, including the students enrolled in that class and other teachers. Once your child has accessed a class, they can use all the features the teacher has enabled for that class, including class schedules, assignments and announcements. Can you use Google Classroom at home? Children can access Google Classroom from anywhere, including from their phones or tablets, when they download the Google Classroom app. How does my child find out about new stuff posted in Google Classroom? Your child will receive an email when the teacher posts an announcement. These emails come through your child’s email account, not solely in the Classroom. Classrooms do not alert you when an assignment is due; to keep track of deadlines, kids need to check the class calendar.
