A CHaRM’ing Adventure! Presented by Live Thrive and Delta Air Lines October 7, 2021 Zoo Atlanta 6:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. In April 2021, we celebrated the 11th birthday of our 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Live Thrive, and the 6th birthday of our premier program, the Center for Hard to Recycle Materials (CHaRM). In just six short years, CHaRM has increased from 5,000 visitors in 2015 to more than 36,000 in 2020. In that time, we have diverted more than 100 million TONS of material! Live Thrive offers a wide variety of educational programs for the public, schools, civic and corporate groups. In 2020, we were not able to host all the educational initiatives with schools and groups that were planned. We not only lost the opportunities to further educate the public about recycling, sustainable material management and other environmental education programs, but we lost the opportunity to receive grants to help fund these educational programs and our CHaRM facility. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and nearly three months of closure, CHaRM’s intake increased during 2020 – the center recycled 9.6 tons of Styrofoam, 180 tons of chemicals, 189 tons of glass, 1,215 mattresses and much more, for a total of 1,364 tons of recycled materials during the year. In the first quarter of 2021, we have already collected (and repurposed or recycled!) over 428 TONS of materials. That is 26% more than we collected in Q1 last year! Properly recycling this huge increase in material volume requires much more funding on the part of Live Thrive. One of the more positive outcomes that we discovered amidst the pandemic was that our COVID Protocols brought an additional opportunity to better educate the public about separating and cleaning materials that were brought to CHaRM. Many visitors learned the importance of why materials need to be separated, how materials maintain their value when properly prepared and that their materials will be reused or recycled when brought to CHaRM. Approximately 94% of all materials brought to CHaRM are either reused or recycled. That is a stat that we are proud to have been able to maintain even during a global pandemic and that we will strive to maintain for years to come. Over the past six years, our fundraiser sponsorships have been instrumental in the survival of Live Thrive, CHaRM and our environmental educational programs. We hope that you will consider sponsoring this worthy cause—and be a part of a fun event! A CHaRM’ing Adventure! October 7, 2021 Zoo Atlanta 6:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. On October 7, 2021 Live Thrive will host A CHaRM’ing Adventure, which will bring together influential Atlantans, Atlanta-based corporations and Live Thrive supporters for an evening of delicious food, live music by Yacht Rock Revue, stunning views of the African Savanna exhibit and more. Our fundraising goal is to raise $250,000. The funds raised at A CHaRM’ing Adventure will go to directly support Live Thrive, its educational initiatives and the operational costs to run CHaRM, Atlanta’s only permanent drop-off facility for materials too harmful or bulky for the curb. To date, CHaRM has diverted more than 100 million TONS of chemicals, paints, electronics, glass and tires from metro-Atlanta’s water system and landfills. We invite you to join other influential sponsors like Delta Air Lines, Zoo Atlanta and Yacht Rock Revue in sponsoring this event. Together we can reduce hazardous waste material exposure and Georgia’s need to create more landfills. 1110 Hill Street Atlanta, Georgia 30315 lt@livethrive.org • livethrive.org • TAX ID #27-3345319 Event Co-Chairs: Hadley Laughlin and Meredith Lindvall.
