INVITATION Dear colleagues, The Congress Committee is pleased to invite you to the upcoming SSAR Congress, taking place November 8–10, 2018, in Interlaken. Cooperation with the Swiss Association for Anaesthesia Care (SIGA/FSIA) in organisation and implementation has proven very successful. I am very pleased to mention the following important changes and refinements of the program. First, the Congress Committee chose English as the dedicated language for all scientific contents of the congress. Second, we switched the schedule for the free communications from Friday morning to Thursday after- noon. Third, the general assembly of the SSAR and SIGA/FSIA will take place on Friday morning from 10:30 to noon. However, the languages for the general assemblies will remain German/French. All members are cordially invited. Fourth, the awarding of prizes and the scientific reports of researchers with SSAR research grants is planned for Friday from 15:05 to 15.55. Fifth, on Friday the president of the SSAR congress commission will welcome all participants (8:25 to 8:30) and will close the congress (17:30 to 17:35). On Friday we were able to attract excellent speakers from Switzerland and abroad on the subject of «Goal-oriented perioperative medicine». We would like to focus on the following main topics: 1) goal-oriented cerebral therapy, 2) goal-oriented haemodynamic therapy, and 3) optimising care for cancer and infections. On Saturday, we will offer attractive workshops in which knowledge and skills in the field of ultrasound-supported regional anaesthesia and neuromuscular mon- itoring will be taught. The ultrasound workshop takes place in the congress cen- tre on Saturday morning. Exciting symposia will also deal with case discussion in paediatric anaesthesia, various aspects of pain medicine, and anaesthesiological emergency medicine. Highlights of the social program are a networking event on Thursday evening in the industrial exhibition and the congress dinner on Friday evening. We will enjoy a nice dinner in the Restaurant Alpenblick in Wilderswil. Transfer by bus is organ- ised from 18:30 from the Congress Centre Kursaal Interlaken We are convinced that the broad programme we’ve planned for 2018 will arouse your interest. We would be pleased to welcome you to Interlaken, and hope that you’ll arrive in large numbers to trade experiences and participate in interesting discussions. I also would like to acknowledge the commitment of the exhibitors, who complement and round off the program through their annual industry exhibition and symposia. My colleagues from the SSAR Congress Committee, the BBS Congress GmbH team and the SSAR Board of Directors also provided spirit, support and know-how – factors that are essential for a successful congress. I would like to thank everyone for their valuable contributions. PD Dr. med. Andreas Vogt President of the SSAR Congress Committee 3

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME SATURDAY, NOV. 10, 2018 IN MEMORIAM DR. MED. CHRISTIAN SCHÖNHOLZER-VENNEKOLD ULTRASOUND GUIDED REGIONAL ANAESTHESIA WORKSHOP «MEET THE EXPERTS» Annual Meeting SGAR, Interlaken, November 10, 2018 Dr. med. Christian Schönholzer-Vennekold was the first Anaesthetist organizing a Symposium to teach and learn ultrasound guided regional anaesthesia in Switzerland. His Workshops and social evenings in Wolhus- en were legendary and a lot of participants and tutors still have them in their best minds. Chris- tian died totally unexpected end of February this year and we dedicate this SGAR Workshop to his memory. In this workshop we try to cover your personal individual needs and therefore the targeted participants are colleagues with good basic knowledge in ultra- sound guided regional anaesthesia. The faculty experts will teach ultrasound on live models and you will have the opportunity to practice and discuss your questions in very small groups (2–3 participants per tutor). Bring your questi- ons and wishes – we try to give the answers.
