FOREWORD Surviving Surviving CancerCancer in Style in Style TOPS EXPLAINED D octors, dentists, lawyers, realtors, nurses. Every year, we recognize the best in each profession. We call it our Tops series—at least I do. As the editor in charge, I’ve explained our selection process hundreds of times. But I’ve never delved into it with our readers in any great detail. We go to extraordinary measures to bestow this honor. With the exception of our Top Realtors list, which is a collaboration with an outside research firm, everything is done in-house. And there’s a (sort of ) science behind it. How does it work? First, we ask local industry leaders to review the categories included in each directory to ensure that the specialties represent the services available in Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties. These categories are updated every year. Jude Plum with Kristin D., Top Doctors is the best example of that. The pediatrics, orthopedics, cardiology and cancer care specialties have all evolved greatly in recent years. shown wearing her wig Once specialties are updated and confirmed, a ballot is created by Greg Mathias, Jude Plum with Kristin D., shown wearing her wig Surviving Cancer in Style Today Media’s director of digital strategy. We shifted to online voting eight years ago—no more snail mail. Once the ballot is live, I distribute the link to past voters, professional associations and practices in the area. A ballot is posted for three weeks, and we send weekly reminders. When it comes to voters, nurses are the most diligent, dentists the most www.JudePlumSalon.com congenial, lawyers the promptest, and doctors the busiest. Why didn’t I know about online voting? You wouldn’t … unless you’re a doctor, dentist, “TheNatural European anxiety surrounding losing my lawyer or nurse. BY MICHAEL BRADLEY A nyone who’s driven past the corner of Lancaster and City Line avenues and seen the majesty of St. Charles Borromeo Seminary knows just how striking the campus is. Fronted by the mammoth cross displayed during Pope John Paul II’s 1979 visit, it’s all imposing buildings and vast swaths of green. But as impressive as the property is on the outside, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia is more concerned about what happens inside. Bishop Timothy C.
