Dear Friends & Fellow Deer Farmers,
We are pleased to bring to you our 2023 sale catalogue
containing a quality offering of 2 and 3 year old stags, yearling
hinds and selected semen for our Sale on the 10th of January.
This year again we will be holding an afternoon sale with
a start time of 4:30pm, it will be in the format of a hybrid
auction both live onsite, and on bidr®. Please be aware if
you’d like to bid online you do need to register and have made
arrangements through your stock and station company in advance.
We have a very good line up of 11 three year old trophy, and velvet stags, 10 growth
rate sires, 10 yearling hinds plus 5 lots of semen. Unfortunately, due to a break down,
we haven’t managed to weigh the yearling hinds. We will have weights on these and
updated weights for the growth rate stags on sale day.
Just prior to publishing the catalogue we attended the NZ National Velvet and
Hard Antler Competition; it was a fantastic event and wonderful to see things
returning to normal again post the Covid pandemic. We were very excited to receive
the overall Trophy Antler Champion prize for Alonso’s 6 year old head, he is truly an
amazing stag, and is breeding very well as is evidenced by sons such as Ferdinand
and Lots 3, 7 and 8 in this years sale.
As the world moves past the pandemic it is encouraging to see demand returning
for Venison, and although a little stop-start, Velvet now seems to be selling well
again at a reasonable level. Prospects are also very encouraging for the season
ahead in the hunting industry, with many outfitters and farmers reporting strong
interest in hunts and demand for stags. All these point to better times ahead again
for the deer industry.
We are confident you’ll find the animals that suit your breeding objectives within
our line up, and wish you well with your purchases. We welcome any pre-sale enquiry,
and are happy to arrange a viewing in advance of the sale.
We will be offering light refreshments pre-sale, and warmly invite you to stay on and
enjoy our BBQ and hospitality at the completion of the sale.

Vendor Sale Conditions 2023
1. Black Forest Park retains a third party marketing condition on semen, for the
Lots offered in our 2023 Sire catalogue for a period of 4 years, transferable
should the stag be sold within that period.
2. No animals, embryos or semen sold by Black Forest Park, or their germplasm, any
subsequent progeny or germplasm, including the semen and germplasm of that
progeny may be supplied to a third party without the written permission of the
stud.
3. This condition does not affect normal commercial deer farming or stud farming
or the normal sales of semen or embryos as it only applies to entities with the
primary function of commercial semen/germplasm activities.
4. It is a condition of sale of any animals, embryos, germplasm or semen sold by
Black Forest Park, that the purchaser agrees to include the following clause
as a condition of any subsequent sale or gift of any animal, embryo, semen,
germplasm or subsequent progeny or germplasm to a third party - “the
purchaser acknowledges that it will not supply any animals, embryos, semen or
germplasm to any commercial semen/germplasm marketing or sales entity, and
will ensure that this clause is inserted as a condition of any sale or gift of any
animals, embryos, semen or germplasm.”
5. The sale will be conducted by PGG Wrightson with the conditions of sale as set
down by the Stock & Station Agents Association, a copy of which is exhibited in
the office on sale day.
6. The deer are the purchaser’s property and risk at the fall of the hammer.
7. Warranties and Insurance are covered under separate headings.
8. Terms are strictly cash unless prior arrangements are made with the
auctioneers. Accounts not paid within 14 days of sale shall bear interest, at
current rate per annum from the date of sale.
9. The sale is conducted exclusive of GST.
10. Overriding commission is payable to non-participating companies and
recognised independent agents introducing and accompanying purchasers to
the sale providing prior arrangements are made with PGG Wrightson.
11. Sale animals in velvet will have velvet removed after the sale, which will remain
the property of the vendor.
12. Intending purchasers are required to register with the auctioneers prior to the
commencement of the sale.

We purchased 14403 in partnership with Criffel Deer
Farm from Crowley Deer in 2017. He breeds very well
across our bloodlines adding mass and points to our
long wide open style heads, while maintaining our
traditional structure. He was third in the 2017 rising
stars competition as a two year old.

Comet has an attractive big open style head with Main
Beams of 42 and 44 inches, and inside span of 38. We haven’t
used him as extensively as we would’ve liked as we’ve been

Dimitri’s 4 year old velvet head weighed 9.5kg, and was
placed second in the 4 year old section in the National
Velvet competition in 2018. With correct placement
and only very small snags to fault him, his head is clean
and very attractive. Unfortunately now deceased, but
we are pleased to watch his young progeny going on to
out-perform him. We have a limited amount of semen
available from Dimitri.
