         2022 Preservation Awards
Every year, Dade Heritage Trust recognizes the outstanding achievements and efforts of those who
strive to save our community’s places that matter at our Annual Meeting and Preservation Awards
Ceremony. This year, Dade Heritage Trust celebrates the organization’s 50th anniversary!

The Annual Meeting and Preservation Awards Ceremony will tentatively be held at the lovely and
historic Woman’s Club of Coconut Grove. You are invited to nominate individuals, businesses and
organizations whose work throughout this year signals an extraordinary achievement in any and all
categories listed below. We hope you will join us at this year’s ceremony to celebrate DHT’s 50 years
of preservation in Miami-Dade County.

Eligibility

DHT’s Preservation Awards are open to any individual, organization, business or agency
involved in historic preservation in Miami-Dade. There is no limit on the number of
nominations that one applicant can submit. Nominations may be made without the knowledge
of the nominee(s). Self- nominations will be accepted. Owners of properties, if not the
applicant, must provide written consent.

All projects, activities or individual service must have been completed between January 2019 and
January 2022.

Categories

PROJECTS - Recognizes the preservation efforts of architects, landscape architects, engineers, planners,
developers, and/or property owners. Nominated projects may include buildings, districts, private residences,
and public spaces in historic districts. Nominated projects should reflect an understanding of the principles
outlined in The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines
for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring and Reconstructing Historic Buildings. Project categories include:

        Adaptive Use - Projects that have successfully adapted a historic building for a new use. Residential,
        civic, religious, and commercial projects are considered.

        Green Rehabilitation Project - Projects that have incorporated eco-friendly materials and methods
        into historic preservation projects. Projects can include green construction projects, incorporation of
        environmental practices in planning documents (guidelines, regulations, street plans, etc.)

        Stabilization, Renovation, Restoration Projects - Historic buildings that have been stabilized,
        renovated, or have undergone significant restorations.

        Compatible Addition - Projects that take into account the existing structure(s) and create new
        usable space that is complementary and does not detract from the historic portion.

        Stewardship - Applauding the proper maintenance of a historic site over time

        Master Craftsman - Individuals that continue to employ a time-honored traditional of a technique
        or method of construction in order to achieve authenticity in the restoration of character-defining
        features. Examples include: woodworking, metalworking, masonry, etc.

ORGANIZATION & COMMUNITY - This award honors municipalities, community groups, nonprofit
organizations, and neighborhood associations whose advocacy, public awareness, publications, legal battles, and
other preservation efforts have demonstrated a heroic dedication to protecting Miami-Dade County’s heritage.

INDIVIDUAL - These awards distinguish those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding contributions
to the historic preservation movement and have made a lasting impact as advocates, leaders, or activists.

The Dolly MacIntyre Resiliency Award – Named in honor of DHT Founder, Dolly MacIntyre, this award is
presented to an individual who has dedicated years of service to the community working within the umbrella
of Dade Heritage Trust’s preservation mission.

The Arva Award – Named for historian, preservationist and former DHT Board member Arva Parks
McCabe. This award is presented to an individual who has dedicated time and effort to preserving a piece of
Miami-Dade history for the next generation.

PUBLICATIONS & APPS - Acknowledges excellence in research and educational efforts displayed in
published documents (surveys, brochures, technical briefs, etc.) or digital materials for educational purposes
(such as websites, apps, and interactive games) that have been instrumental in the success of preservation
projects or efforts.

■ One page narrative making a compelling case for the award and highlight the importance of the
project and the scope of work completed; why the nominee deserves an award; obstacles, challenges,
or collaborations that contributed to the success of the preservation effort.

■ 1 0 photos of project transmitted digitally. Materials may be used in Power Points and public
   relations materials.

■ A
   complete list of names and mailing addresses for key persons involved with the project,
  advocacy effort, or organization.

■ List of any Federal, State, or Local programs that provided financial assistance to the project.

■ Nominee resume
