The Covid-19 pandemic has forced upon us a very different approach this year but nonetheless we remain true to our long-term objective to support the veterans of Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. As the 692nd Lord Mayor of the City of London, I stand in a long tradition of the strongest links between the Crown, its Armed Forces and the City’s institutions. From the 2018 Lunch onwards, the Committee decided to extend its support to include all members of the Armed Forces of The Crown who have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and their families. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 and again in 2012, serving a total of eight years before a back injury ended his Army career. Lee struggled to adapt to his injury and developed anxiety and depression. He entered the Personal Recovery Unit (PRU) and worked with staff who helped to transform his outlook. With a wife and young child at home, Lee decided to use the skills he’d developed in the Army to start his own carpet-cleaning business.
