STUDENT VALUES Sitar Artists are: Compassionate for each other and our community Responsible for their actions and reactions Eager to listen, learn and be active Aspiring to become the best person and artist Teamplayers in the classroom and with their friends Engaged in class and in their art MORNING MEETING & SHOUTOUTS Sitar students gather each morning before attending classes. Morning meetings are an opportunity for students to prepare for their day through short exercises, giving shout outs and receiving announcements. All students should be present for Morning Meeting. Shout outs are given to students who are exhibiting the Student Values. Students and teachers can give and receive shout outs. MEDITATION/QUIET LITERACY TIME Kids Crafters will participate in meditation and/or quiet literacy activities, as a short period of rest, with brief exercises for breathing meant to calm students before they start their afternoon classes. CAMP ORIENTATION Camp Sitar will hold Camp orientation for students and families! New and current families are encouraged to attend. • Learn about the camp day, field trips, activities, art focuses and technology for online camp • Meet camp staff and teachers • Ask questions Orientation Dates will be sent via email. Camp Sitar In-Person Camp Sitar In-Person will enable students to focus deeply on their chosen discipline each session. Students will select one art focus for each session enrolled and will be in that focus for the entire week-long session. + Students will be with the same teacher and classmates for the duration of each camp day that week. There are four different periods of class time throughout the day, where students will explore techniques within their chosen focus. Additionally, teachers will add literacy and other activities integrated into the arts discipline to add variety and keep their class engaged and excited to be at Camp Sitar! Meals Due to the limited capacity of our in-person programming, we will not be able to provide meals this summer. If this is a major concern for your family, please contact us at camp@sitarartscenter.org. Students must bring a lunch, as well as a reusable water bottle each day to camp. There will not be access to water fountains, but there will be fillable water bottle stations. Please be sure to label ALL lunch boxes, containers and water bottles with your student’s name. NOTE: Sitar Arts Center and its partnering organizations are not responsible for lost or damaged items or storing personal food items. LUNCH RULES • All food allergies must be reported at registration • Candy, gum, soda, fast food, any nut products are NOT allowed • Label any containers, including lunch box and water bottle • Students will not be able to heat food • Students cannot pick up food from an outside vendor or send siblings, staff or interns to pick up food 9

All classes offered will be live with opportunities for additional off-screen participation and students will be able to reconnect with some of their favorite summer teachers, staff, and friends! 10
Class Supplies and Technology Class supplies will need to be picked up and more information regarding that process will be provided after registration is completed. Students have the option to borrow a tablet for the summer. Make sure you indicate your need for additional technology in your reservation form or contact Camp Sitar at camp@ sitarartscenter.org. We will be utilizing two platforms for our online programming, Zoom and Discord, and you will need to create accounts for both platforms. There is no cost to create an account with either Zoom or Discord. IN-PERSON AND ONLINE CAMP ACTIVITIES FIELD TRIPS & CAMP ACTIVITIES Camp Sitar always has great trips and community activities, as well as activities to build Camp spirit. We will continue with most of our traditional days including, Water Day, Field Day, Smore’s as well as a few other special activities offered both in-person and online and to engage students and their families in our camp activities and virtual field trips. Camp Sitar also has Wacky Wednesdays and Spirit Week when students can get creative with silly hats, celebrate their cultural heritage, or show off their team spirit. Students will receive a calendar of these wonderful activities after registration! 12
SUMMER SHOWCASES KIDS CRAFTERS & YOUNG EXPRESSIONISTS At the end of each week-long session, students have the opportunity to exhibit or perform what they have learned via our online community Discord. They will be able to share images and/or videos with the other campers that are participating both in-person and online. Additionally, at the end of the summer, we will share a culminating video that will display works from the entire summer camp. MUSICAL THEATER The Musical Theater program will produce a recorded performance at the end of each session. The three performances will be presented together at the end of the summer. 13

ADVENTURES IN MUSIC - Crafter musicians will experience many different instruments from drums to keyboards to guitar and learn to work together as a team and may form a band! STUDIO ARTS - In studio arts, artists will learn about 2-D and 3-D art styles, from painting with acrylic and watercolor to recycled and found art and pottery. PLAYACTING - All the World’s A Stage! Kids Crafters will discover theater arts through play, learning theater games, creating short skits, acting out lines, and having fun with characters! SPORTS & REC - Let’s learn through movement and have fun too! Students will participate in outdoor and indoor activities that encourage play and fun through physical activity through activities such as sports, dance and movement games. MAD SCIENTIST - Who said math couldn’t be fun? Students will learn through ( S.T.E.A.M.) exploring in science, technology, engineering, art and math, to create projects and learn through experimentation. SESSION THEMES Session 1 – Under the Sea – Discover the magic of the underworld through exploring our world’s magestic oceans! Session 2 –DC Treasure Hunt– Go on an adventure of DC, Maryland and Virginia and dicover local treasures of art and artists! Session 3 – Time Travelers– Get your time machine and discover the world through historical events in time, bring your art tools and expression with you! Session 4 – Good Deeds– Explore what it really means to be kind and use the arts to share how the world needs your kindness. Session 5 – Fairytales, Fantasy and Magic– Fact or fiction? Let’s discover the mystical and whimsical through books such as Harry Potter and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe! 18 Session 6 – Can You Sense It?: Sensory Art Exploration– Exploring the arts through the 5 senses; touch, taste, smell, sight and sound.

YOUNG CLASS DESCRIPTIONS EXPRESSIONISTS IN-PERSON Students will choose an arts focus for each session. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY- Students will learn visual composition elements of digital photography utilizing their cell phone camera technology and online editing platforms. Students will learn the art of composing artistic and traditional photos. STUDIO ART - Students in studio art will explore a variety of 2-D and 3-D arts styles, from painting with acrylic and watercolor, to recycled and found art, and pottery. Students will learn foundational concepts, be introduced to various types of equipment, such as the kiln for firing pottery, and will learn the steps needed to complete a successful piece of work. MUSIC - Expressionists students will be introduced to various instruments, such as drums, keyboard, conga and guitar. As a group in band style, they will learn about song writing, musicians, current and previously made music and how to perform these pieces or create their own. SESSION THEMES Session 1 – Climate Change: The World’s Oceans – Discover ways to save the planet and reduce the carbon footprint through art and eco-art awareness. Session 2 – Global Treasure Hunt – Discover the hidden treasure of Indigenous art and artists across the world. Session 3 – Art Through the Ages– Travel through time and explore the diverse era’s of arts, pop culture, and music from Broadway to Hollywood. Session 4 – Uplifting Communites of Color: BLM, LatinX, and BIPOC Awareness – Become change agents working through art and social justice building peace, equity, and community. Session 5 – Mysteries and Secrets – Fact or Fiction? Take the lead and uncover the hidden truth. Session 6 – Change the World – Exploring leadership, character, and imagination through 21st Century leaders and innovators. How will you change the world? 24
ONLINE Students will choose an arts focus for each session. The arts focuses will rotate each session, allowing the opportunity for students to experience different art forms. MUSIC - Expressionists students will be introduced to various instruments, such as drums, keyboard, conga and guitar, and have the opportunity to learn vocals and explore through online platforms. As a group, they will learn about song writing, musicians, current and previously made music and explore digital platforms of music making. STUDIO ART - Students in studio art will explore a variety of 2-D and 3-D arts styles, from painting with acrylic and watercolor, to recycled and found art, and pottery. Students will learn foundational concepts, be introduced to various types of equipment, such as the kiln for firing pottery, and will learn the steps needed to complete a successful piece of work. ACTING - Sitar’s Acting Academy … where students build CHARACTER by exploring Drama. Students will hone their acting skills (ex. scene interpretation, vocal projection, and physical movement) and work in production teams doing acting, movement, and writing for the stage/ screen. DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY- Students will learn visual composition elements of digital photography utilizing their cell phone camera technology. Students will learn the art of composing artistic and traditional photos. S.T.E.A.M. STUDIO - Expressionists will learn through experimentation, building and creating projects that explore science, technology, engineering, art and math. The creation possibilities are endless. SPORTS & REC - Add a bit of play and movement into your day with some physical fitness and active games. Students will be engaged in activities such as sports, dance, movement games and martial arts. Students will explore movement through various dance styles and capoeira. ARTS WITH PURPOSE - Leadership and Community Building Through the Arts - This class creates projects led by students that encourage leadership, community building and teamwork. Together through the arts they will create class projects that will beautify and uplift their communities. 25

Celebrating family and community, each two-week session will explore the people that help make us who we are, whether it’s your caregivers and siblings or the friends and neighbors you surround yourself with. In each session, students will explore and perform a diverse range of musicals from the American theatrical canon with the guidance and support of a professional theatre artist. IN-PERSON DAILY SCHEDULE Aftercare is extremely limited and available on a first come first serve basis. Families may sign up for aftercare when they reserve their camp spaces. An additional fee will apply and is based on a sliding fee scale. Students in aftercare have free play in addition to arts and crafts activities, outside play, sports and other active games, indoor play and literacy time. • Students registered for aftercare will be directed to the aftercare location after their summer program ends each day • Parents are required to sign out their student from aftercare each day • Students are given a snack each day • There is a grace period of 15 minutes at pick up time. HOW TO APPLY All interested applicants MUST sign up with DC’s Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP), by their deadline, in order to get paid for work. For payment through SYEP, youth must be a DC resident. Interns can also work for a small stipend (limited availability), community service or as a volunteer. Additionally all applicants must complete a S.E.A.L. internship application by March 10, 2021 , interview with a Sitar staff member, and provide other required 30 materials to be considered.
THE PROGRAM Students can earn money or community service hours by working at Sitar Arts Center. Applicants must be 14 or older (dependent upon position) and commit to working during the entire program. INTERNSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS Mural Arts Intern: Online — Works as part of a team in the creation of 1– 2 murals and individually on an independent project. All projects will be completed remotely with virtual work sessions. Must provide a portfolio of recent drawings/paintings to be considered. Junior Art Administrative Assistant: Online — Jump into the administrative world and discover why attention to detail, documentation, and planning ahead are so important in the professional world. In addition, complete an independent art project. Must be 17 years or older. Entrepreneur in the Arts: Online — Create professional artwork and experience what it takes to market and sell your work and how to represent yourself as an artist. Develop a better sense of time, communication, and finance management. Must have experience in an art form and provide a portfolio of examples of work to be considered. Must be 17 years or older. Camp Class Assistant Intern: Online — Primarily assists Camp Sitar as a Zoom host/teaching assistant in the classroom, specifically with student supervision and participation serving students in grades K-8. The intern will pay an important role in the daily functions, and gets to work closely with both the teaching artists and students. Must be 16 years or older. Camp Assistant Intern: In-Person — Primarily assists Camp Sitar as an additional staff member to oversee student supervision during morning and afternoon camp activities and lunch. The intern will pay an important role in the daily functions, and gets to work closely with both the Sitar staff, teaching artists and students. Must be 22 years or older. Musical Theater Intern: In-Person — Learns how to facilitate a performance-based, musical theater curriculum for grades 5 – 8 in a full-day, camp setting. Working alongside two musical theater teachers, the intern will coach and mentor young performing artists providing production support to create a culminating, video-recorded performance. Must be 22 years or older. Intern Leadership Opportunities — Interns who have worked at Sitar more than two summers are eligible for additional hourly pay. Those selected will be given a bigger leadership role and more responsibility. Not all who are eligible will be selected. 31

REGISTRATION & PAYMENT Space is limited in Camp Sitar. It is Sitar’s mission that 80% of our families come from households whose income falls below 50% of the median area income. All families must provide household income information and reservations for in-person camp will be limited based on that verification. Additionally, all families must make a deposit in order to reserve a space for either in-person or online camp. Deposits will be on a sliding fee scale and the deposit will be approximately 30% of the total tuition cost. This will reserve the student’s space until the tuition deadline. Deposits are nonrefundable or transferrable. During your call you will select the program and sessions for each student you are registering. 2. PAY YOUR DEPOSIT AND TURN IN YOUR TAX FORMS Deposits and tax forms are due within 24 hours of the in-person program reservation. The deposit secures your students space until tuition and registration forms are received. If the deposit and/or tax forms are not received, the student will lose their space in the program. Deposits are nonrefundable and cannot be transferred to another student or program. The deposit will be 30% of your total tuition cost. 3. COMPLETE YOUR REGISTRATION LINK Due dates are based on when you reserved your space. All registration paperwork will be sent by email. All registration forms are due by the listed due date for final confirmation of the student’s space. Los estudiantes seleccionarán un enfoque de arte para cada sesión inscrita. Los estudiantes pueden tener la capacidad de participar en una variedad de experiencias, si están inscritos en varias sesiones. Cada mañana y tarde, los estudiantes tendrán un descanso de actividad entre horas de clase y participarán en juegos afuera (si el clima lo permite) o una actividad especial durante cada descanso. Los enfoques artísticos ofrecidos variarán entre Taller de Arte, S.T.E.A.M (Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Arte, Matemáticas, Deportes y Recreación), Deportes y Recreación, Adventures en Musica y Drama. KIDS CRAFTERS: EN LÍNEA Kid Crafters ofrece opciones de medio día, que se pueden combinar para un programa de día completo de 10:00 am a 3:30 pm. Los estudiantes seleccionarán un enfoque artístico para cada programa de medio día en el que estén inscritos. Los estudiantes pueden tener la capacidad de participar en una variedad de experiencias, si están inscritos en varias sesiones. Durante cada programa de la mañana y de la tarde, los estudi- antes tendrán un descanso programado entre las actividades integradas en su tiempo de clase. YOUNG EXPRESSIONISTS: EN PERSONA Young Expressionists ofrece opciones de día completo de 9:00 am a 4:00 pm. Los estudiantes seleccionarán un enfoque de arte para cada sesión inscrita. Los estudiantes pueden tener la capacidad de participar en una variedad de experiencias, si están inscritos en varias sesiones. Los estudiantes de Young expresionistas experimentan los enfóquese artisticos en un nivel más profundo. Los enfoques de arte se imparten durante 75 minutos a la vez. Los enfoques de arte ofrecidos variarán entre Arte Visual, Fotografía Digital y Música. Los Young Expressionists también tienen la oportunidad de inscribirse en nuestro programa de Teatro Musical. YOUNG EXPRESSIONISTS: EN LÍNEA Young Expressionists ofrece opciones de medio día, que se pueden combinar para un programa de día completo de 10:00 a.m. a 3:30 p.m. Los estudiantes de Young Expresionistas experimentan enforques artísticos en un nivel más profundo. Los enfoques de arte se enseñan durante 90 minutos y los estudiantes pueden seleccionar un enforque de arte para cada programa de medio día en el que están inscritos. Los enfoques artísticos ofrecidos variarán entre Arte Visual, S.T.E.A.M (Ciencias, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Arte, Matemáticas), Deportes y Recreación, Música, Arte con Propósito, Drama y Fotografía Digital. TEATRO MUSICAL: EN PERSONA ¡El teatro musical regresa este verano en un nuevo y emocionante formato de dos semanas de día completo! Celebrando a la familia y la comunidad, cada sesión de dos semanas explorará a las personas que nos ayudan a convertirnos en quienes somos, ya sean sus cuidadores y hermanos o los amigos y vecinos de los que se rodea. En cada sesión, los estudiantes explorarán e interpretarán una amplia gama de musicales del canon teatral estadounidense con la guía y el apoyo de un artista teatral profesional. Los estudiantes estudiarán técnicas de actuación, canto y danza tales como movimiento, voz, análisis de texto y coreografía en preparación para una actuación culminante grabada en video al final de cada sesión.
