7 Carer and Staff Expectations The group will be at the resort for the whole day. Please make sure all participants, carers and staff have everything they need with them as it is unlikely they will return the accommodation before 4pm. If a participant requires personal care, their carer must be available at all times to assist. The carer does not need to be a skier or snowboarder, but must be available at an agreed location should they be needed for assistance. If the carer or staff member is skiing or snowboarding using a carer lift pass purchased through DWA (carer lift passes are not included in the Friend/Parent/Carer/Staff price), they must stay with the group or participant while on snow. The carer or staff member must still be available to assist with personal care at all times. Carer and staff lift passes Lift passes for carers and staff members are not included in the price, however they can be purchased through DWA at the resort-based cost per day. Please finalise your lift pass needs with DWA as per the booking timeline. Cancellation Policy DWA respects that your time is valuable, and we hope you understand that ours is too. As such we have implemented a cancellation policy that respects the potential for injury and/or medical circumstances, while ensuring that we are able to properly manage bookings. Any cancellations made two months prior to the camp program will be refunded in full – including any organisational deposit. Any cancellations made less than two months prior to the camp program will be refunded less any non- refundable costs and an administrative charge. Any cancellations made less than 2 weeks prior to the camp program will not be refunded. If a participant is unable to attend the camp at any point until four days before the camp program, the organisation may request a new participant take their spot. This decision will be subject to the availability of appropriate guides and equipment and will be evaluated at the discretion of the Camp Coordinator. If a participant or carer does not attend a camp without any prior notice, they will still be liable for the cost of the camp program – regardless of whether they have paid for it in full prior to its delivery. 8 Clothing A few tips on clothing for the snow: • The best idea for staying warm in the snow is to dress in layers. This simply means to dress using layers of clothing (long sleeve top, then a vest and jumper, etc.) rather than one or two bulky jackets. This not only keeps you warm but will allow you to regulate your temperature more easily by having the option to remove or add layers. • If you do not have appropriate waterproof clothing for the snow, including gloves and goggles and can’t borrow them from a friend, then you can hire them from Perisher Snowsports at the Jindabyne Sport and Recreation Centre at your own cost. Mittens are recommended for those who cannot easily straighten out their fingers to fit into gloves. • Bring a small backpack or sports bag to carry your extra layers and a change of clothes in case you get wet and cold. Spare gloves or mittens are also good to bring if you have some. • Sunscreen is essential. • It’s a good idea to have your DWA membership card with you on snow as it includes your medical and emergency contact information. This information is helpful for Ski Patrol in case their assistance is required. Suggested packing list: • Beanie • Long, warm woollen socks • Helmet (if you don’t have your own, • Shoes helmets are included in your • Indoor shoes or socks ski/snowboard rental package) • Sunscreen • Goggles or sunglasses • Toiletries • Scarf or neck warmer • Snacks for on and off snow • Long sleeve thermal tops • All medications required (in a blister pack • Thermal underwear or original containers) • Vest (woollen or polar fleece) • Water bottle • Jumper (woollen or polar fleece) • Money to buy lunch on the mountain • Water proof jacket and pants each day (budget for $15-$20 each day) • 1-2 pairs of waterproof gloves or mittens or bring a packed lunch • Casual clothes to wear after being on • Linen, towels and doonas are provided snow MANAGED CAMP PROGRAM OUTLINE PERISHER THREDBO 2021
9 Alcohol, Drugs and Behaviour Guidelines Alcohol is permitted for those over 18, however it is expected that it will be consumed responsibly and not impact on others. BYO alcohol is not permitted in the Mogul’s Restaurant. Under no circumstances is alcohol or drugs permitted to be consumed on snow. No one under the influence of alcohol or drugs is permitted by DWA to undertake snow sport activities. Smoking is not permitted in any building and butts are to be disposed of in designated trays. Illicit drugs are not permitted. DWA reserves the right to ask anyone whose behaviour is disrupting the enjoyment of the camp for the other participants, to leave the program. No refund will be offered. Any damage to facilities or equipment during your stay will be billed directly to the organisation. Health Care Insurance DWA recommends that participants and anyone engaging in on-snow activity makes sure they get the appropriate insurance to cover any injuries sustained while participating in snow activities. Given the extreme nature of snow sports, there are inherent risks – which include the potential for physical harm. To make sure you are properly looked after in the event of an incident, we recommend finding the appropriate insurance for all parties. Additionally, whilst not compulsory, DWA recommends all participants investigate the costs and associated benefits of ambulance subscription. Visit www.ambulance.vic.gov.au to find out more.
